Synopsis Act I It’s VJ Day, and President Harry Truman announces the Japanese surrender . . . all of Washington, DC, celebrates, including those in the home of Senator Lenato and his lovely daughter, Hero . . . soon, troops arrive, homebound, and the Senator asks a group of them to sojourn in his house . . . old loves (one between the Senator’s daughter and a Captain Claudio) and old rivalries (two: one between Colonel Pedro and his disaffected brother John, and the other between Captain Benedick and the lovely Beatrice) soon reemerge . . . Benedick takes Pedro’s wager that Benedick, a confirmed bachelor, will never marry, and Colonel Pedro promises to win Hero’s heart for the lovestruck but lost-forwords Claudio . . . after a wild masquerade, Claudio and Hero are brought together, and Pedro proposes with them and the Senator that they seek to bring Benedick and Beatrice together in marriage . . . one day, as Benedick hides nearby, Pedro, Claudio and the Senator speak of how much Beatrice loves him and of how undeserving is he of her . . . Hero, Ursula and Margaret do the same for Beatrice, and the unsuspecting couple are led into love . . . meanwhile, the local air-raid wardens assemble to guard the Senator’s house the night before Hero’s wedding, while, nearby, John, brother of Pedro, comes up with a plan to ruin the wedding plans – and his brother and Claudio in the process . . . late that night, John calls Pedro and Claudio to Hero’s window, and there shows them a most dreadful scene unfold . . .
Act II Overhearing associates of John admit they had tricked Claudio and besmirched Hero’s reputation, the air-raid wardens pounce on them . . . the wedding of Hero and Claudio is, meanwhile ruined when Claudio publically accuses Hero of unfaithfulness, and all but her father and close friends desert her . . . then, the presiding priest at the wedding – the quick-thinking Fr. Francis, SJ – comes up with a plan: Hero will pretend to have died of shock at the accusations leveled against her and, in the interim, public feeling will turn in her favor and against her false accusers . . . in a conversation following, Beatrice and Benedick profess their love for one another, and Benedick declares that he will challenge Claudio to a duel . . . John’s associates are examined in court, Senator Leonato and his brother scold Claudio and Pedro for bringing about the “death” of Hero, and Benedick challenges Claudio . . . when John’s associates are brought to the Senator’s home and Leonato, Pedro and Claudio hear from them the truth of what John had done to Hero, Pedro and Claudio agree to do rites of penance at Hero’s tomb, and Claudio agrees to marry the Senator’s niece the next day . . . when the morning comes, Claudio marries the “niece,” a surprise second marriage takes place at the same time, all evil doers are forgiven or punished, and the whole group of friends celebrates in a festive mood.

Furthermore, he encourages you to sample the famous Carty Cupcakes during intermission. Lizzie Connolly (Stage Crew), a senior at Georgetown Visitation, has acted with the GDA (AMND, TMW, TPG) but turned to the dark side for CdeB and LA. She is beyond elated to be on stage crew again, working with the one-and-only Mr. T and the greatest group of guys a girl could ask for, including the sassy-cat freshmen. Much love and many thanks. Helen Marie Cummings (Ensemble) truly believes that William Shakespeare wrote Much Ado About Nothing as a vehicle for her. She thanks Bill, for all his hard work and excellent verbal skills. He was the first person that truly believed in her, a non-verbal dancer. Joe Dahut (Stage Crew) is a freshman and is psyched to be on crew! Save the planet.” Christian Forte (Stage Crew) is a freshman and this is his first time being part of GDA. It has been the highlight of his first couple months.

This is Jack Garvey’s (Stage Crew) first GDA production. He hopes it won’t be his last! He sends thanks to his family and the Gonzaga community. And now this bio will end because, although a senior, Nelson is only permitted 35 words. This is Paul Guay’s (Stage Crew) first year of Gonzaga stage crew. He has helped build the bridge, platform and walls to the house. He would also like to thank his friends and family for being here. Matthew James (Stage Crew) is currently in the 9th grade. Matthew played the role of Fagin in Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist at St. Ann’s Academy.

Much Ado About Nothing? No Way. This GDA production is really something! Congrats to the cast and crew and all the behind-the-scenes staff! ~~The Marcou Family Much Ado about Something!
Sarah Jenks (Hero) is a senior at Archbishop Spalding High School. Previously in TPG (Babe), TMW (Helen), and AMND (Hermia), GDA will forever her place of interesting stage kisses and lovable awkward moments. Shout out to L’Etoile, Buckles, her family, and the incredible cast and crew for their infectious support and inspiration, and to Anna Zimmerman for keeping our love of mashed potatoes alive. Brandon Johnson (2nd Watchman) is staring in his second production on the GDA stage. His previous role was 3rd Cronie in Li’l Abner. He wants to thank his family for their support. Matthias Kelley (Stage Crew) is in his first crew in this production. He would like to thank his Mom, Dad, and brother for their support. Woodmaster. After six years on the Visitation stage, Peter Kentz (Stage Crew) is excited to be on stage crew for his first Gonzaga show. Abigail Kilcullen (Ensemble) is a sophomore at Visitation. She was in Visitation’s Our Town. She thanks her parents for encouraging her to do this play. Timothy Kokotolo (Stage Crew) is delighted to finally be on the stage crew this year. He would like to dedicate his efforts in the play to Mr. Every, in the hopes that hoodies will be restored. Isabelle Koritsas (Ensemble) is a sophomore at Visitation and she keeps its f13rce. She’s really excited to be a part of GDA this year, and show off her swing dancing talent. Colleen L’Etoile (Ensemble), a sophomore at Visitation, has previously appeared as Missy in Cyrano and yes, the old lady in Li’l Abner. She’d like to say thanks to the family, Big Al, and all her fr13nds! Nathan L’Etoile (Don Pedro) has been in 4 plays prior to Much Ado About Nothing, including “Mac” in Cyrano da Remix, “Dr. Finsdale” in Li’l Abner, Boy 1 in The Pajama Game, and a dead body in Arsenic & Old Lace (his finest hour.) He would like to especially thank his dad for all the support he gives to the play and to Nathan himself. Ted Marcou (1st Watchman), junior, is positively delighted to be a part of this production. His critically acclaimed role as Hairless Joe in Li’l Abner brought tears of joy and laughter to many. Turbo out. Chris McDonnell (Antonio) is a freshman in his first show with the GDA. He is grateful for the opportunity to be in the show, and has had a great time with the cast and crew.
Brian “Fr. Francis” Ott, Finds the “Cure” for the Fair Hero. There is much dancing. There is much applause. Love from your family, friends and fans.
Quinn McGee (Co-Assistant House Manager): Seating people on time since ’09. Ushering: it’s what we do best. JJ Mitchell (Seacoal) feels lucky and excited to be in his 3rd GDA show. He can’t believe his days in the GDA will be ½ way done soon! He would like to thank his family and friends.
Reed Nagel (Loft Manager) is a senior attending Gonzaga. This is his 4th show and first as loft manager. He would like to thank the loft crew. This is Gianluca Patterson’s (Stage Crew) fourth show for the GDA. He started in the spring of his freshman year. He has enjoyed participating in the production of the plays. Duncan Peacock (Stage Crew) is a junior on stage crew and this is his second show. He loves building the set with the other guys and is excited to help put on a great show. Jack Plantamura (Ensemble) once again storms the stage in his third Gonzaga show. After wowing audiences in Cyrano the Remix and Li’l Abner, his role as Swing in Much Ado About Nothing promises to be his most explosive performance yet. Brian Potochney (Stage Crew), a senior, joined stage crew two years ago and has been a part of The Miracle Worker, The Pajama Game, Cyrano de Bergerac and Li’l Abner. He is beyond ecstatic to be a part of Much Ado, and hopes everyone enjoys the show. Andrew Ravenscroft (Stage Crew) is a junior at Gonzaga. Because of the number of shows he has performed in, he was allotted more space for the very playbill you are reading. Many people, including Reed and Khary, would have liked this space to write about whatever. Instead, this space is used in dedication to all the stage crew members who would have used this space but couldn’t. Thank you all!
It all began as “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” In which you travelled to the “West Side (Story)” Met a “Miracle Worker” “Cyrano de Bergerac” and “Li’l Abner” and played a “Pajama Game”. But it was all “Much Ado About Nothing” That ended with a “Kiss (Me Kate).”
Elizabeth Regan (Ursula), a Visitation senior, is very glad she decided to give the fall play a try. She’s loved it just as much as the past three musicals. She thanks her family and friends and everyone who had to put up with her crazy schedule. Connor Reilly (Balthasar) is excited to be part of Much Ado About Nothing. Previous roles include Mulan (Fa Zhou), Meet Me In St. Louis (Caroler), and Li’l Abner (Dr. Schleifitz). He would like to thank everyone for the opportunity. Break a leg, everyone! Brad Riehle (Co-Assistant House Manager): Seating people on time since ’09. Ushering: it’s what we do best. Pancho Rothwell (Stage Crew) is in his sixth show at Gonzaga. He would like to thank his family for being at all the shows. Margaret Sabelhaus (Ensemble) is a freshman at the Academy of the Holy Cross and excited to be in her first production at Gonzaga.
Congratulations to Pancho on four great years with the GDA!
Love, Mom, Dad & Caitlin

“Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.” William Shakespeare
Jakob Stalnaker (Don John) is excited to be in his first GDA production as Don John. Most recently, he performed with The Shakespeare Company in Henry V. Michael Sullivan (Conrade) is a senior in his second GDA production. Special thanks to this year’s head ushers, John and Dominic. Their suave guidance from door to seat is fundamental in this year’s show. Jacob Sweeney (Verges) is very excited to be in his second GDA show. He played Speedy McRabbit in the 2010 spring show, Lil’ Abner, and had a blast. Mark Valeiras (Count Claudio) will play the role of Count Claudio. This is Mark’s first appearance in a GDA production, and he is thrilled to be a part of the cast. After stopping by in Our Town and saying Hello, Dolly!, Thomas Walsh (Messenger) is finding out how life is Much Ado About Nothing. Many thanks to all.
Jakob, Who knew that the adorable boy in red lederhosen could grow into such a vile, treacherous, despicable Don John? We could not be more proud of you. We love and support you through everything you do. Believe in yourself and continue to be a “man for others.” Love, Dad, Mom, Sophia & Natalie
Anna Zimmerman (Beatrice) is so excited to be back on the Gonzaga stage for her sixth show. Much love to all the cast, and a special shout-out to the most amazing carpool ever (it wasn’t me) and her friends (SJ in particular) who always put a smile on her face. Thanks to Mr. L’Etoile, Mr. Buckley, Ms. Miller, Mrs. Goldsmith, and everyone else who made this show such a great experience.
Nathan, by my troth, a good song! Love, Mom, Dad, Matt, Pascal, and Toi-Toi.
Much Ado About Helen-Marie There’s always Much Ado about Helen-Marie. Everything from shiny brown hair (with blonde highlights) to toe nails painted over and over in different colors...Then there are these topics: Which university will give her an honorary degree with the regular diploma? And which fashionable city to live in? The only thing she is unaware of is how much pleasure she gives everyone around her.
