Christopher, It has been a thrill watching you trod the boards at Gonzaga.

Congratulations on EIGHT amazing performances with the GDA! From Neverland to dancing your way through the streets of the Big Apple with side stops in show business, a dysfunctional family, the GDA’s ďŹ rst ever Disney production, a dream from the Bard, a trip to the 50s, and a thoughful look at how people treat each other, it has been a wild and wonderful ride!

We are so proud of you. Love, Mom, Dad, William & Alese

Mrs. Denise Aitchison (Costumer) is happy to be celebrating her fourth year as a Costume Co-Coordinator and Designer. She managed to fly under the radar of the GDA until her son, Quinn (‘17), decided to be in the musical Curtains his senior year. In the real world, she is in her 31st year as a Costume Draper for the Shakespeare Theatre Company. She also freelances regularly for many companies including Arena Stage, Washington National Opera, Ford’s Theatre, Olney Theatre, Signature Theatre, and the Guthrie Theater. Denise gives her special thanks to husband Jon, who cleans the house and cooks for three months. This enables her to work with teenagers and hopefully cultivate them into theater goers and professionals. She gives her thanks to Paul, Meghan, Allan, Jonathan, and Kimberly, who likes to put too many rhinestones on the costumes. (Just kidding, there can never be too many rhinestones!) Mr. Paul Buckley ‘86, HoF ‘16 (Producer) is so thrilled with this cast and crew for being so easy to work with and so very, very talented. He thanks his seniors for all of their great work, leadership and dedication over the years. He is grateful to Meghan, Sarah, Marika, Kim, Denise and Jonathan for their continued excellence at what they do. He is especially grateful to Allan L’Etoile for his years of expertise, friendship and vision. Lastly, he thanks his wife Monica and his kids, who have their own shows to do. The family that performs together, transforms together. Ms. Marika Countouris (Music Director) has been with the GDA for 5 years! Her previous GDA credits Grease, Beauty & the Beast, Curtains, Peter and the Star Catcher, Hairspray and Godspell. Other credits include Monumental: Be More Chill, Daddy Long Legs, Brooklyn and Montgomery. Flying V: We’re Gonna Die (Helen Hayes Nomination for Outstanding Music Direction); NextStop: Beehive; Levine Music Theatre: Matilda; Constellation: Little Shop of Horrors, Aida; Redhouse Theatre: Peter and the Starcatcher; Catholic University: 9 to 5; Montgomery College: Urinetown and Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play; MC Summer Dinner Theater: Sister Act, Into the Woods, and Catch Me If You Can; Woodrow Wilson High School: Legally Blonde. Marika also serves as the Choral Arts Director at Georgetown Visitation, where she teaches private voice and leads both the Chorus and Madrigals. Mrs. Meghan Goldsmith, HoF ‘18 (Producer) is in her 19th season as a member of the production staff and is thrilled as always to help get another production up on its feet. Memorable shows include Singin’ in the Rain ‘99, 42nd Street ‘02, Guys and Dolls ‘06, West Side Story ‘08, Kiss Me Kate ‘11, and Fiddler ‘14. Thank you to Paul, Jonathan, Marika, Sarah, Kimberly and Denise for being wonderful colleagues, creators and friends, and congratulations to the cast and crews, especially the seniors, on a job very well done. Love and thanks to her amazing husband Dan for his support and delicious dinners, and to Matt, Katie and Emmy-Boo for being such happy, awesome kids -- thanks for sharing Mommy with the big kids for a little while. To Allan - Muffin says thanks for everything.

Mr. Allan L’Etoile ‘73, HoF ‘12 (Director) is directing his 39th show at Gonzaga this spring in Newsies. Since 1996, he has been fortunate to work here with some luminaries of high school theater -- Mr. Paul Buckley and Mrs. Meghan Goldsmith (friends and producers), choreographer Ms. Sarah Frances Williams, musical directors Ms. Marika Countouris and Mr. John Warman, and long-time co-director Mr. Roger Schlegel. He is also so glad that he has had the opportunity to work with so many great kids over the years in theater; they’ve taught him more than they will ever know about teaching and living, and they are his legacy. He’s also thankful that he had the chance to work with his son Matt, who did stage crew while at Gonzaga, and Nathan, an actor and winner of the school’s Jean O’Reilly Award for contributions to theater. But above all, he’s thankful for his wife, Marie, who for 24 years has allowed him to come home late “six months out of every year” so that he could pursue his passion on the stage. She’s had to sacrifice a lot for his pursuit -- and she’s helped out and enjoyed the shows, too -- but he knows and wants everyone else to know that all this happened ONLY because she’s always said “yes.” I love you, Marie. Thanks. Mrs. Kimberly Notarianni (Costumer) is in her 4th season as a costumer for the GDA and is thrilled to be part of the production staff beginning in 2019. Mom of Spencer (’17) and Maddie Rose (SR ’19) she has been costuming the GDA since Mr. Buckley roped her in immediately after chairing Gonzaga’s 35th Anniversary Gala in December of 2016. Setting aside her pointe shoes since becoming a mom, her costume skills and flair for “feathers and all that sparkles” can be seen sprinkled throughout the productions. “Mrs. Noti” has one cardinal rule: Thou shall NOT eat in costume and always has a secret candy stash in the “cage”. Special shout outs to: Dr. Noti for his patience with late theatre nights, hot glue guns, and musical theatre playlists, & to Mrs. A, my partner in crime, who has spent many a late night by my side & happily indulges my sequin & rhinestone addiction. Mr. Jonathan Spencer (Technical Director) is a native of Fairfax, VA and a graduate of the Art Institute of Washington. He is enjoying his third year as the GDA Technical Theatre Director after having recently worked as the Technical Theatre Director for Summit School in Winston-Salem, NC and as the co-owner of the live music venue, Turntable, in Jamestown, NC. Ms. Sarah Frances Hope Williams (Choreographer) is excited to be back at GDA for her 6th show as choreographer. Sarah Frances is an actor, choreographer, and teacher artist in the DMV. She graduated from The Catholic University of America for Musical Theatre. Previous GDA shows are Beauty and the Beast, Grease, Footloose, Fiddler on the Roof and Hairspray. Previous performing credits include Beauty and the Beast, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Saturday Night Fever, Urinetown, and more. Sarah Frances is the Education Program Manager for Levine Music Theatre at the Levine School of Music. For Mom and Dad always.

BIOS

Mason Allen (Oscar Delancey) would like to clarify that he’s the taller Delancey, in case you were wondering. He’s also thrilled to be a part of his second GDA production and would like to thank everyone involved for their help. Mavis Anning-Gyan, (Ensemble) a sophomore at Georgetown Visitation, enjoys her first show as a part of the GDA family. With experience from previous productions, Mavis continues to grow her love for the theatre and has had a wonderful time in Newsies so far. She hopes to return next spring! Hannah Ashworth (Makeup Crew) is a sophomore at Georgetown Visitation and she is very excited to be a part of her third GDA show as a part of makeup crew. Adriano Bayz (Assistant House Manager) is glad to step out from behind the scenes as puppet-master of House Crew. He would like to give his blessing to the next administration, God knows they need it. He thanks everybody that has helped him these past four years, especially Mr. L’Etoile and his life lessons. Eleanor Bender (Darcy) is a junior at St. John’s and is thrilled to be returning for her fourth show at Gonzaga! After all this time, Eleanor is pleased to say that the endless teasing has died down... a little. She would like everyone to know that no animals or plants were hurt during the production except maybe an eagle or two, but that doesn’t count. Mary Ashleigh Berg (Ensemble) is excited to be returning to the GDA stage in Newsies. She was seen last year in Grease. Although no stranger to the stage, she performed at the Kennedy Center for 4 years in The Nutcracker with professional ballet companies and has danced since she was three years old. Long live the batons! Anthony Buckley (Stage Crew) is happy to be in his second show with the GDA. His other show was this fall’s show, The Laramie Project. He can’t wait to continue his GDA career. Nate Buckley (Stage Crew): “As this is my last show, I plan on making it my best. The GDA shows may not make the papes, but they will always be headlines for me.” Coleman Bunn (Albert) is grateful for the GDA. He thanks his parents for their love and support throughout his seven shows in the Sheehy Theater. He thanks everyone in the cast and crew for welcoming him into the most compassionate family he has ever met. Robert Calvo (Bass) is making his GDA debut with this rendition of Newsies. Robert has played the bass for five years in bands such as Boomerang, in which he plays with the drummer for the musical. Outside of music, Robert enjoys fishing and playing chess. Ben Campion (Pulitzer) a senior in his 6th show, is thrilled to play Pulitzer because he admires Pulitzer’s consolidation of wealth and power off the backs of orphaned kids. He has been preparing by acting in his own self-interest because he’s afraid of being called a fool. Gennaro Cardarelli (House Manager) is ready to command his legions “ad victoriam” in his eighth GDA production with the House Crew. Just as Caesar conquered Gaul, Gennaro is prepared to fearlessly lead the House Crew in their glorious and sacred duties as the backbone of the GDA.

Thomas Carney (Stage Crew) is excited for his 6th GDA show. He has had a great time building sets and meeting great people on stage crew. He would like to thank his parents, brother, stage crew, and the directors for helping him through his junior year. LuLu Carter (Ensemble): “My fleeting moment of fame as Nun #1 has really taught me the importance of humility, as I know not everyone has what it takes to be THE nun #1. Thanks to all the people who make GDA the place that it is!” Fior Cecchi-Rivas (Ensemble): “This is my second time being typecast as a nun, and I must say I think it bodes very well for my future. Thank you to anyone who ever gave me a ride during the month of January. Thank you, Mama and Papa. Thank you, God.” Tad Clifton (Crutchie) is a freshman and is thrilled to be performing in his first GDA show! A few favorite past roles include Aladdin (SMMST), Michael Banks (CTA), Young Scrooge (Ford’s Theatre). Tad would like to thank the whole artistic team, cast & crew for such a fun production. Big love to Mom, Dad, Mac, & Essie. Enjoy the show! John Corso (Stage Crew) has been crewing productions since second grade, but this is his first production with the GDA. He enjoys every aspect of theater tech, from sets to lighting, but his favorite part of the GDA is the friendships he has made with other crewmembers. Christopher Cowardin (Henry) is thrilled to be a part of Newsies. While he is both extremely saddened by the thought that this is his last show, he is glad that he shared his last moment on this stage with such a great group of people. Like always, he would like to thank Mr. L’Etoile, Mr. Buckley, Mrs. Goldsmith, Marika, Sarah, Mrs. Noti, his family, and everyone who helps with making these productions so great. He would like to thank more people, but since they have reduced the word limit to 45 for these, he is not able to do that. So to sum everything up…peace out! Kiera Dent (Ensemble) wouldn’t be here without the essentials: carpool and strawberry açai refreshers. Though sad about her last show at Gonzaga, she couldn’t be happier about becoming a street urchin (infamous fingerless gloves included) and looks forward to overthrowing stage management with Caroline Vining. Hannah Dimas (Specs/Dance Captain/Assistant Choreographer) is thrilled to be in her third Gonzaga musical! She is glad to be a member of the GDA family. She wants to thank her family and friends for their love and support. Michael Donodeo (Drums) is a senior in his third production as the GDA’s drummer. Next year he will attend Villanova University. He would like to thank his family for tolerating the drums and Chris Cowardin for setting up his double bass pedal. He is in a rock band, Boomerang, which you totally should hire if you plan on throwing any parties this summer. Gabriel Dorsey, (Tommy Boy) a freshman at Gonzaga, is excited to be going on to his second production in the GDA. It’s been an amazingly fun experience for him, and he can’t thank everyone in the GDA enough. Emma Dowd (Ensemble) is a sophomore at Stone Ridge and is excited to be on stage and performing in her first musical with the GDA! Also, Shout out to Caroline Vining for the best and most memorable carpool!

So proud of you, Justin! Congratulations on all of your accomplishments on the stage.

You truly are a talented young artist! Keep reaching for your dreams! We are glad to be your original fan club. Break a leg! Congratulations to the cast and crew of Newsies! Love from, Daddy, Mommy, Kuya Joric, Ate Gabby, Kuya Matthew Papa, Mama, Tito Veegee, Vianca, Gavin Inang and The Frondas from the Philippines

Matthew Dukes (Stage Crew) is excited to be a part of his fourth show with stage crew. He is ready to take over Light Manager from the mildly incompetent Joe Giuliani. He hopes you enjoy the show. Emma Farren (Hannah) is over the moon to be performing in her final show with the GDA. As a 17-year-old in a show about teen rebellion, she’s glad she could portray the age-appropriate characters of nun and secretary. Thanks to the whole GDA for four memorable years! Thomas Fisher (Guitar) is a senior at Gonzaga and excited to be playing in his first GDA performance. He hopes you enjoy the show. Robert Fragola (Les) is excited to be playing his favorite character in his first GDA performance, and he hopes to be in many more in the future. Justin Fronda (Romeo) is a senior at Gonzaga College High School. He is glad to have joined the play his last year. He would like to shout out Manila Mart and Cafe! It’s located 5023 Garrett Ave, Beltsville, MD 20705! Andrew Gans (Stage Manager) would, for a final time, like to let you know that if something goes wrong it is not his fault. He would like to thank Mr. L’Etoile for the past three years of being “Mr. Gans!” He would also like to thank his parents, Mr. Spencer, and everyone else involved in his 3 incredible years as part of the GDA. Matthew Gately (Morris Delancey) is excited to be in his 6th show and beat up Luke Rizzo. Patrick George (Stage Crew) is a sophomore and is excited to be on stage crew for the Newsies production. This is his first time being a part of a production at Gonzaga. He has had fun working with everyone. Joe Giuliani (Light Manager) is excited be in his 6th GDA production as Light Manager. He is weary of any surprise concussions he may receive days before the show, which will inevitably lead to his incompetent protege, Matthew Dukes, taking over. Kendall Grady (Race) is super excited to be a part of her first GDA show. This will be her last high school show as she heads off to NYU: Tisch in the fall to continue her passion for drama. She would also like to thank you all for coming to see Newsies and she hopes you enjoy the show! Chris Groh (Stage Crew) is excited to be on stage crew for his third show with the GDA. He would like to thank his friends and family for their support and hopes you enjoy the show. Ruth Hailu (Makeup crew) is a senior from Visitation excited to do makeup for GDA for the first time! Catherine Hammes (Reeds) is excited to Seize the Day while playing Newsies!!! A big thank you to the GDA for the opportunity to play their shows for the last three years. Next year, she can’t wait to Watch What Happens as she pursues a music therapy degree. Helen Heetderks (Ensemble) is excited to be in her second show at Gonzaga and would like to follow The Laramie Project with another successful production.

Meaghan Howard (Buttons) would like to thank her parents, as well as her amazing carpool for the many Starbucks runs and tea sessions. Patrick Jacobs (Stage Crew): “I am excited to be in my second GDA production. I’ve enjoyed working with this great group of students and teachers and am looking forward to a great production.” Will Joransen (A/V Manager) is ready for the AV regime to split up next year. This split proves that the work asked of him prior to the separation was way too much for just him. On another note, he’s super excited for his final show. Katie Kerns (Elmer) is a sophomore at Georgetown Visitation and is excited to be participating in her third show from being a Pink Lady in Grease and doing makeup in The Laramie Project. She can’t wait to continue doing GDA and hopes you enjoy the show! Meaghan Kilner (Jojo) is a senior at Stone Ridge and excited to be in her second show with the GDA. She is grateful to everyone who worked on the show as well as everyone who got her to and from DC every day. This is Owen Kirvan’s (Stage Crew) fourth show. He is happy to be a part of the GDA again, and is glad to finally step out of his brothers shadow despite being constantly called Finn. Thomas Kiyonaga, (House Manager) a most prodigious and prolific leader of the GDA, a man who has been at the pinnacle of our most exceptional institution for the past three years: may the Gonzaga Dramatic Association make a most humble attempt to continue in his departure. Lucia Lanave (Conductor/Piano) is excited to return to Gonzaga after substitute conducting for Grease last Spring. Recent credits include: Constellation, Little Shop of Horrors- Assistant Music Director; GALA Hispanic, Fame- sub. Keys 2. Upcoming: Heritage Theatre Festival, Guys and Dolls- Associate Music Director; St. Mark’s Players, Into the Woods- Music Director. James Lau (Wiesel): “I want to thank my family for their constant support over the past two years. Mr. L’Etoile and Mr. Buckley for helping make the shows possible. Every person I’ve met because of GDA. Thank you to the boys I love and will miss you. Shout out to the visi girls and #Funbunch. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!” Alek Ludwikowski (Nunzio): “This is the first musical I’ve ever been a part of and I’m really looking forward to trying out for more in the future.” Abby MacCartee (Katherine Plummer) is a junior at Stone Ridge in her second show with the GDA and she is beyond excited to perform in Newsies. Abby has a love for the stage, but she has loved being a part of the GDA family even more. Catherine Mahr (Ensemble) is a sophomore at Visi and is thrilled to be participating in her second GDA show! Johnny Martinez (Stage Crew) is completely invested in his fourth production in the GDA. He will not miss any cues *cough cough Gans*.

Patricia McGee (Assistant Stage Manager) is in her third and final season of GDA. She has loved every second, on and off stage. John McGuiness (Stage Crew) is a sophomore at Gonzaga, and is excited to participate in his first Gonzaga production. Brendan O’Boyle (Bill) is ecstatic to be in his fourth show at Gonzaga as a part of the Newsie Ensemble and Bill. He would like to thank the academy, his family, all of Gonzaga especially Mr. L’Etoile and Mr. Buckley, and most of all: The Boys. This is Thomas Pacious’ (Loft Manager) 4th show here at Gonzaga. This is his 2nd show as loft manager. “Ave omnes qui parat haec in umbris.” (Hail all who prepare things in the shadows.) Catherine Patterson (Mush) is a student at Stone Ridge and is excited to perform in her first musical in the GDA! A big thank you to Mr. L’Etoile and Sarah for being amazing and shout out to Caroline Vining and Abby MacCartee for the carpool. She would like to thank her parents, past directors, and friends for encouraging her to keep performing and doing what she is most passionate about. Caitlin Reischauer (Ensemble) is a sophomore at Visitation and is so excited to perform in her second show with Gonzaga. She has loved her experience with the GDA so far and is so grateful to everyone involved for making it such an amazing community. Luke Rizzo (Jack Kelly): “My role in this show is really fitting because like Jack, when I have one bad day, I decide that there’s no hope left and should run away to New Mexico.” Audrey Saliba (Stage Crew) is a senior at Stone Ridge and is excited to be a member of stage crew for Newsies, her third show with the GDA. She hopes you enjoy the show. Mathieu Saliba (Mike) is thrilled to be part of his second GDA production. Hannah Shiblaq (Mr. Jacobi) is a sophomore at Georgetown Visitation and is thrilled to be in another GDA production. She has had so much fun these past months preparing for the show and can’t wait for her family and friends to see it. She wants to thank her parents for their ongoing support, Mr. L’Etoile, Sarah, and Marika for all of their guidance, and most of all, her GDA family.

Matthew Shumaker (Seitz) is excited to be in his first GDA production in Newsies. He wants to thank Mr. L’Etoile for letting him know that he “always finds a new way to mess up the show.” Zoe Somerville (Medda Larkin) is a sophomore at Georgetown Visitation, and is thrilled to be in her second GDA musical. Augie Sommers (Spot Conlon): “Watch this!” Locke Sullivan (Ensemble): “Thank you, Mom and Dad. Thank you, Gonzaga. Thank you, GDA. You all made this show possible!” Johnny Tecala (Bunsen) is excited to be a part of his second GDA production and to have his first speaking part! He would like to thank his sister Gracie for getting him interested in the theater, his parents, and his dog maizy. Brendan Todd (Teddy Roosevelt) is a Gonzaga senior. This is his first time performing in a musical. Outside of the GDA, he swims for Gonzaga’s varsity team. Ella Turgeon (Ensemble) is a sophomore at Georgetown Visitation. She is thrilled to be a part of Newsies, the second production she has participated in at Gonzaga. She is thankful for the love, support, and positivity of the GDA family. She’d also like to thank Sarah and Mr. L’Etoile for making every rehearsal memorable. Shout out to Coleman Bunn for being an amazing human. Adam Uppuluri (Ensemble) is thrilled to be in his first show. He’d like to thank Mr. Buckley, Mr. L’Etoile, Sarah, and Marika for making the show possible. He’d like to thank his parents for their support on this wonderful journey. Finally, Adam would like to thank all of the cast members for being so kind and welcoming. He is excited to participate in future shows. Caroline Vining (Ensemble) is a senior at Stone Ridge in her fourth show. She would like to thank Mr. L’Etoile, Sarah, Marika, and the wonderful costumers. Caroline is also ready to challenge Gans to become the ultimate stage manager. Carson Volanth (Mayor) is a senior at Gonzaga and is making his debut in Newsies as the Mayor of New York City. Paul Weaver (Warden Snyder) is happy to be back on stage causing some ruckus with the boys. Nora Webb (Ensemble) is ecstatic to be in her first GDA show (shout out to Catherine H for making her audition)! The only thing she loves more than the opportunity to get to know everyone is her new tap shoes...clickity-clickity. Jacob Wells (Finch) is very excited to seize the day and watch what happens when all of his friends and family come to see the show. Jacob wants to thank Mr. L’Etoile, Mr. Buckley, Sarah, and Marika for making Newsies wonderful and amazing.
