Special Article Part 1 What God Has Cleansed, You Must Not Call Common
About the Cover
The 2016 English Camp in Haiti gracefully ended. Just like how God helped in other previous English Camps, God has protected and helped us in unimaginable ways. This year, God opened up ways to hold English Camps not only in schools but also in prisons, detention centers, and orphanages. In addition, unlike the previous English Camps, this year there were IYF students sent to the countryside to hold the camp. We not only taught English but also preached the Gospel to the Haitian students. Towards the end of the camp, there was a chance for riotous to break out, yet God allowed the students to stay in the city hall safely. God did not only open new ways to reach out to the Haitians but also kept the volunteers safe and sound.

Jonathan’s Choice Pastor Ock Soo Park | Good News Gangnam Church
“And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the Lord will work for us: for there is no restraint to the Lord to save by many or by few. And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armour bearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armour bearer, Come up after me: for the Lord hath delivered them into the hand of Israel.” (1 Samuel 14:6, 12)
I May be Comfortable Hiding in a Cave now
In reading 1 Samuel chapter 14, there is a war between the people of Israel and the Philistines. The Philistines’ army had thirty thousand chariots, six thousand horsemen, and a multitude of people like the sand on the seashore. In comparison, the camp in Israel had all ran away and there only remained Saul, Jonathan, and the six hundred men with Saul. They could only, with a fearful heart, wait for the Philistines to attack them. Saul could do nothing during this time. One day Jonathan thought, “Although now I am comfortable hiding in a cave, but when the battle begins, it will be impossible for us to defeat the Philistines. If the Philistines attack, we may be defeated and my father will die in battle. Then I will have to be king. Can I bear the Philistines with leading this small number of people?” No matter how hard he thought, there was no way. Most people, instead of relying on God, would rather safely avoid burden even if it is just temporary. Even if by relying on God they see a way to success, they would rather avoid that burdensome path to go down a path that is safe. Jonathan also avoided the Philistine army and hid in the cave with his armor bearer. It first seemed safe, but when the battle begins, it would all fly away. By his strength, there was no way to defeat the Philistines in the end. The only way that remained was for him to rely on God. 4
When we want to go forward by relying on God, that way always seems difficult and seems unlikely to work.
Let Us Go Over To The Garrison Of These Uncircumcised
God always wants to help and work upon us. But in our eyes, because it doesn’t seem safe to follow God, we are unable to go down the way with God. Saul did the same. But one day when Jonathan thought about it, just because he was hiding didn’t mean that he was safe. By doing so, he could not defeat the Philistines. He thought that the only way left was for him to entrust himself in the hands of God and fight against the Philistine army by relying on God. Jonathan forsook the cave that seemed safe to hide in and although it seemed dangerous, he chose the way to run forward relying on God. As soon as Jonathan made this choice, hope arose in his heart. “That’s right. The salvation of the Lord does not depend on men whether few or many. If God is with us, what can be a problem? The Philistines, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. God will work upon us!” Jonathan changed his heart and spoke to his armor bearer. “Let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. God will work for us. The salvation of the Lord does not depend on men whether few or many.” “God Will Work! Let Us Go!”
When we want to go forward by relying on God, that way always seems difficult and seems unlikely to work. It seems that our methods are safer. But realistically, the way of relying on God is safer; my methods are not safe. Until then Jonathan thought that it was safe for him to hide in the cave, but when he thought about it deeply, that was not safe at all. In the end, it was a way to be ruined. He knew the fact that the only way for him was to rely on God and run forward. That is why he and his armor bearer, the two of them, went toward the Philistine garrison. Jonathon spoke to his armor bearer, “If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them. But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the Lord hath delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us.” As soon as the two revealed themselves to the Philistines, they said, “Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves,” and said to the two, “Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing.” Hearing this, Jonathan said to his armor bearer, “They’re telling us to come up to them. God will work. Let us go!” 5
Sermon of the Month
God Waited For Such A Person…
For Jonathan to go up to the Philistines was not because of his own wisdom or his ability with the sword, but only by relying on God he ran forward. God is waiting for that which comes from a person’s heart: “I will work for you so just believe and run forward. Forsake what seems to be safe for you, only depend on me and proceed. I will help you.” God is waiting for those who will go forward like this. In 1 Samuel chapter 14, God was waiting for such a person like this, but King Saul and his six hundred men were all in hiding. When Jonathan, with a heart to rely on God, went to the Philistine garrison, there would be no reason for God not to help. As the two men arrived, the Philistine soldiers began to fall before Jonathan. All the armor bearer had to do, as he followed him, was to slay the soldiers. Then there was a great trembling in the field and among all the people who were there. The reason why Jonathan and the armor bearer were able to slay numerous enemy soldiers is not because of their wisdom or methods. It is because they knew their methods were useless and instead they ran forward relying upon God. As this scene unfolded in front of Jonathan, he was truly amazed and deeply moved by it: “God is working! God caused the trembling and manifested his power! Why didn’t I rely upon God before?” Instead of relying on God, we use our methods and try to protect ourselves. It may seem safe, but if we think about it a little bit more, it can never be safe. It makes us suffer and causes us to be ruined. Right now, my methods may seem to be good, there is no other way but to forsake my methods and to rely upon God. Problems with the business, children, aging, whatever the problem is, there is nothing safe except relying upon God. Even though they are inside of God, there are many who think, more so than the method of God, that their own method is safer and follow it. God permits various things allowing us to know that our methods will ruin us so that we can forsake our methods and choose the path of following God. Each time God works amazingly and changes our lives. The people of God, likewise, forsake their methods and choose the method of God, but those who don’t rely on God and choose their methods end up in ruin. Yell “God!” And Pour Out the Heart That Is Inside
Long ago, if I prayed for a long time it would only be ten minutes. When I tried to pray about twenty minutes, I prayed for almost an hour and I was very happy. But my heart was not deeply absorbed in the prayer. Afterwards, I preached the Word to five or six students at the Geochang Jangpal-ri Church. 6
One day I was having worship with the students and gangsters walked in with their shoes still on and beat me. I was so angry that I was insulted in front of the student to whom I was teaching the Bible to. After the gangsters left, I yelled at the brothers and sisters to all go back home. Left alone in the room, I locked the door and yelled at God. An angry heart and a hateful heart arose and I couldn’t bear it: “God!” And I began to pour out my heart. But amazingly, after praying for a while, peace began to find my heart. As my heart began to connect with God, the peace of God began to occupy my heart. In my life, there were not many times that I felt so peaceful and filled with His spirit. From that day on as I slept every night, I would awake around midnight or one o’clock in the morning and deeply prayed to God. Every time I prayed, I was able to feel that God was with me and prevailed over the difficulties within my heart. As I looked up to God and thought about how he was in my heart, there were no more problems. That is why I spent almost a year and a half in Jangpal-ri in great joy. The gift the gangsters gave me made me rely upon God. From that day on, as I relied upon God, I saw how God amazingly worked. Even when I encountered a problem or when I think it is hard and difficult, when I look up to God, I find hope and joy rises up. God Does Not Leave Our Side Even For a Moment As He Waits For Us
There is nothing more joyful for than to look up to God and rely upon him. There is nothing more hopeful than that. But Satan deceives us and makes us feel that if we rely on God that things won’t work and that our methods are better. That is why there are regrettable times where people cannot escape from their methods to enter unto the path of God. 1 Samuel 14, God who worked upon Jonathan! Today, like Jonathan, when we forsake our methods and choose God and rely upon Him, indescribable joy and peace dwells in our hearts and God manifests His power. God, in order to work for us, does not leave our side even for a moment as He waits for us. All saved brothers and sisters, look towards God and rely upon Him and I hope you will find the hope through God. Pastor Ock Soo Park

A Flower Blooms Within the Dominica English Camp A Local Volunteer’s Salvation Testimony
Gabriel Hartmann | Good News Dominican Republic Church
One cannot forget the role of the volunteers in leading the English Camp in the Dominican Republic. Each volunteer has a vivid testimony of how God led them. From among them, I would like to introduce the testimony of Gabriel, who accepted the Gospel through the camp and received salvation.

I
met IYF for the first time through the 2012 World Camp in the Dominican Republic. Short-term missionaries from Korea and Thailand handed me a flyer introducing the World Camp one day as I was walking down the street. That’s when I first met IYF, and my previous church pastor having been Korean as well, I had friendly intentions towards Asians, so I attended the meeting without a second thought. I invited many of my friends and family members as well. But as I attended the World Camp, I was shocked. For a long time, I thought I would die without receiving salvation, but the words that I heard in the World Camp were the complete opposite. From a young age, I naturally got connected to my church. Under my Christian Mother, I grew up hearing and learning that Christians must live a certain way. But when I looked at myself, I had a lot of sin, and my heart was so evil that I never thought I’d be able to live a life as a Christian. That’s why, when I heard the Gospel for the first time at the 2012 World Camp, I couldn’t believe it. I thought people in the IYF were crazy. However, they were so nice to me, that I couldn’t just ignore them. I had learned that in order to receive salvation, I have to keep certain rules, and invest a lot of my money to help the poor. But I thought it was strange that people who go to church and say that they’ve received salvation live the same sinful life. Having lived a sinful life full of fights and alcohol at a young age, I felt like I wouldn’t be able to receive salvation, an d I believed that I could only go to hell. I’ve been to a Catholic priest to confess my sins, and I’ve repented for the things I’ve done, vowing never to do them again, but it was all no use. My father who did not believe in God, and my mother who is also a pastor eventually got divorced. I fell into deep depression, and many times I would lock myself in my room and cry out loud. My tears kept falling for no specific reason. I felt blind. I did not know where to go and I was always nervous. I thought I would eventually go to hell and be cursed forever. At that time, IYF continuously contacted me. They sent me information on their events through Facebook, texts, and in every way possible. I couldn’t just ignore their constant calls. Two months before the English Camp, I met short-term missionaries and IYF students at a park. I felt that God had a plan in making me meet them. I thought I should attend the IYF camp to make a 9

final decision after I’ve experienced it for myself. I was in charge of translating Minister ByungCheol Im’s mind lecture at the Instituto Evangelico for the second session of the English Camp. I had heard the words before, but this time I felt that God was speaking those words to me. As I translated that day, the questions that I had were being answered.
Gabriel, translating for the Gospel class
After the minister finished preaching, he asked to speak with me. As I heard the words of Hebrews 10:17 “And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more,” I was able to believe that my sins were washed as white as snow through Jesus’ blood when He died on the cross. When the minister told me that there’s no more condemnation because Jesus had perfected me, I felt a heavy weight that was always in my heart, fall away and I felt so light and happy. I was able to clearly understand the things that were confusing in my head. I was in difficulty because of myself, but Jesus did everything, so I no longer have to live crying and being sad. Jesus is my Savior. The minister who delivered this Gospel to me is such a blessing to me. I’m so thankful. He really told me what I needed to hear. He connected the bridge between me and God. Having met IYF is a huge blessing. Due to my parents’ divorce, I was always lonely growing up. But through IYF, I discovered love. IYF is like a 10

highway that leads me to God, since it taught me the world of the heart in the Bible. Until now, I lived with a closed heart, but I feel my heart has opened. I believe this experience has had the biggest impact in my life, and will continue to change my life completely. Strangely, after having met IYF, many opportunities opened up for me to get a job. I feel so happy that God is leading my life after I’ve received salvation. I no longer have to cry. Jesus is with me. 11

une 6, 2016 – the last day of Haiti English Camp. The volunteers riding in "tap taps" bounced up and down as they went over the bumpy, unpaved roads. It seemed exhausting riding in those shaky cars but not one person complained. Actually, the volunteers were ecstatic and overjoyed to be experiencing something they have never experienced before.

English Camp Kicks Off The American volunteers moved about hastily as they prepared to greet the Haitian students gathering at the Youth Park located in Croix des Bouquets. IYF sponsored this year's English Camp by working together with Haiti's Department of Youth. 500 students from the neighboring towns attended to learn English and recieve the gospel. The students introduced to English Camp through the Department of & Youth arrived with open hearts and followed the program very well. Unlike past English Camps, the first day went by very smoothly.
English Lesson and English Mission class began at the large auditorium. The voices of the English Camp volunteers rang throughout the room. Four classes were going on at the same time, and the students were divided into groups. They learned the alphabet through words and pictures. Learning English was easy and fun. The students grew more excited as time went on; their voices grew louder as they followed their teachers reading and pronouncing English. It was clear their hearts were opening up towards English. Students attending the "Acting Class" gathered under the shade of a large tree that acted as shelter from the burning sun. They learned to change the tone of their voices according to the feelings of the character. The students were able to come out of their comfort zone and have fun as they made different sounds and expressions along with the volunteers. Angry, Happy, Lazy, and Silly were only a few of the emotions that the students expressed through their facial features and body movements. Though it was awkward at first but they laughed at each other's expressions and grew the boldness to express themselves. 14

The English Camp held at the Youth Park opened its first ever Tae Kwon Do class that taught the Korean ethos. They were taught the "Riding Stance," "Jab Punch," "Front Kick," and "Roundhouse Kick." The students were able to follow along the most complex movements. Some students even volunteered to perform their moves in front of the class. Those students who did not listen to the fierce teacher were given small penalties: lying face down on the ground and doing push ups. The students initially hesitated in following the awkward Tae Kwon Do forms, but by the end of the class, everyone was following with one heart. The energy felt from the students learning Tae Kwon Do was as hot as the heat felt from the burning sun that day. 15

Volunteers Deliver the Gospel in the Prisons The volunteers grew tired teaching classes that started in the morning and ended at one in the afternoon, but not one person gave up. The students saw their hearts and gave their all until the very last class. Pierre, a Haitian volunteer who heard the gospel during the English Camp three years ago, is currently interpreting for the Gospel Class. There is hope that more students like Pierre will come out of this year's camp. Another team visited a prison in Haiti. The prison was very different from what was expected. The English Camp was able to bring hope to this desolate place. The people at the prison were thankful for those volunteers who came to teach English and preach the gospel. Other organizations visited the prison on a daily basis to hand out toilet paper, toothpaste, and even money. The prisoners expected our volunteers to hand out material goods. But it was clear those things only further deteriorated and ruined the hearts of the prisoners. While the atmosphere was a little disorderly at first, everything soon began to fall into place. During gospel class, a prisoner on death row began to sing a hymn, and everyone started to sit up straight and sing along. As soon as the sermon began, she told everyone to be quiet and listen to the word. The people sitting in the very first row initially said we all had to seek forgiveness for our sins, but by the end of gospel class, they accepted the gospel and were overjoyed. One of the inmates thanked Pastor Tai who preached the gospel. "Thank you for spreading this gospel to us," she said. "I've been blessed by many people."

These inmates are incarcerated for seven to nine years, just waiting for their sentences. Some do not even know why they were in prison and blamed others as they suffered. They cried at night and missed their family. To those inmates who lived day by day without hope, this gospel that was preached to them was more valuable than any material; it gave them hope. The Haiti English Camp offered hopes and dreams to people all over Haiti. The seed of the gospel is planted in their hearts. The future of Haiti is bright and beautiful.

2016 IYF English Camp in Dominican Republic
Dominican Republic:
The Beautiful Place Where God's Words Work
F
rom June 8th to the 16th, the first ever Dominican English Camp took place in the city of Santiago. The event lasted for ten days.
Being that this was the first English Camp held in Dominican Republic, no one knew what to expect. That is why it was a time to rely only rely on God and receive grace. Just as the sermons said that a camp relying only on God is the most beautiful camp, regardless of our shortcomings and weaknesses, God would work beautifully. Our hopeful hearts gathered together as one. After the workshop in New York and Los Angeles ended, 39 American volunteers and around 30 Dominican volunteers prepared for the camp with one hopeful heart.
◀ Dominican Republic The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean nation that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west. Though known for its pristine beaches, all-inclusive resorts and golfing, it has a varied terrain comprising rainforest, savannah and highlands, including Pico Duarte, the Caribbean’s tallest mountain. It has Spanish colonial history going back 500 years, and passionate merengue is its official music and dance.

Although it was vacation, many students attended the camp
First Session (June 8th to 10th) The first session of English Camp began on the 8th and lasted for three days. Around 900 students at eight different schools gathered from 8 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon to learn English and hear the gospel. The English Camp took place after the end of finals and the start of summer break. We wondered if the students would be willing to attend while on vacation. But contrary to what we thought, many students attended. Principals from several schools made attendance for the English Camp mandatory class, so many student where able to attend. Volunteers Who God Prepared: Teachers God prepared many students and one class was filled with 60 to 70 students. It was not easy for one or two volunteers to lead a class of 60 students but God prepared other volunteers: the teachers and principals of the schools.
The teachers actively volunteered to help in aspects that were beyond our reach. The helped out our volunteers by offering drinks after every class and even enthusiastically participated in class. The principal would dance along with the students during Song and Dance time, and during gospel class the teachers helped lead the students to listen well. We could feel the fine works of God during the camp. Not only did the students hear the gospel, but the teachers and principals as well. They, too, were overjoyed to hear the gospel. 20
God Who Controls the Weather Three weeks before the start of English Camp, it rained heavily in Dominican Republic. The weather forecast called for rain during the dates of the camp. But on the first day of camp, amazingly, it did not rain during the camp. It only began to pour after all the classes ended and everyone returned to their sleeping quarters. But we would be greeted with clear skies and cool weather the next morning.
We were able to see God who only wants to give us the best. Despite what the weather forecast says, God was able to control the weather and allow us the most beautiful weather.
◀ Volunteers and students get lunch at the school cafeteria
The Lunch God Gives Us is Most Delicious! The current president of Dominican Republic used to be a teacher. The first thing he did as president was to build more schools and reform the education system. They also started free lunch programs that were funded by the government so that no one came to school hungry because they could not afford to eat.
These benefits were prepared for the English Camp as well. Because it was summer vacation, the schools initially did not serve lunch. But there were amendments to the law that mandated lunch be provided to students for up to 21

17 days after the start of summer break. Until the exact last day of English camp, every public school we went to provided lunch for the volunteers. Several private school principals paid for our volunteers lunches out of pocket. The lunch that God prepared for us strengthened our bodies and soul. The volunteers conversed with the students during lunch with their body language. We were able to experience each and every aspect of what God prepared. The students who opened up to us to learn, the teachers who helped us, the beautiful weather, the delicious lunch, the volunteers who accepted the gospel and were overjoyed--all these things were the beautiful things prepared by God. When we saw all this, our hearts were overfilled with gratitude.
Free Spirits, Please Sit Still! On the first day, we used our broken Spanish to organize the students but that proved to be difficult. "Sigh, it's so hard;" "Why do they all yell and run around;" "I rather not have those kids attend class." When the volunteers approached the students with these hearts, everything seemed difficult. But the sermons said that these students have already changed and are a part of the IYF. When we refocus our hearts from what we see to what the Word says, the hearts we have towards the students change as well. We were able to see even the troublemakers hear the gospel had changed little by little.
These students who seemed like "free spirits" began to calm down the more time they spent with us. They approached us first to talk about their hearts. They waited to have a heart to heart conversation. When we saw the students, we realized once again how important it is for the hearts to meet and flow together. Moreover, when we saw the students listen to the gospel with sincerity and having been overjoyed as they accepted the gospel with pure hearts, it brought us great joy to our hearts as well. We would not exchange that joy for anything in the world, and that gave us strength to start the new day. 22

Pastor Dae In Kim | Myanmar Missionary
Pastor In Soo Heo with a friend, after running in the 2014 IYF Korea World Camp Marathon
God gives insolvable problems and difficulties to Christians to broaden their spiritual lives and in order to move them to the spiritual world. The reason why Pastor Dae In Kim went through panic disorder was also God’s plan to let him live by Jesus Christ. I would like to introduce my testimony of running powerfully toward the Gospel after giving myself to the cross.
Missionary Dae In Kim was saved on February of 1989. While working as an elementary school teacher and serving the Gospel, he joined the missionary school by the calling from God. After gaining faith by discovering the will of God who called him by grace and regardless of his lacking image, he was dispatched to Seoul Dobong Church and currently is ministering in Myanmar as a missionary. Throughout 12 issues, we will see God who powerfully worked in his life and ministry.

Going to Africa with Myanmar brothers and sisters
On January of 2012, I was notified from our mission headquarters that I would be the guest speaker for the 2012 World Camp in Ghana. Since West Africa was as poor as Myanmar, I wanted to help in any way possible. However, that was just my wish and it was impossible when I looked at the situation. One day, I was reading the Bible and God showed me the Word, “Who can number the clouds in wisdom? Or who can stay the bottles of heaven, When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together? Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions” (Job 38:37-39). “I am a person who cannot even bring dust together. How can I bring people to the church?” We needed God to pour out the bottles of heaven and bestow the grace upon us. As I thought about how God, who fed young lions and ravens would prepare for the World Camp as well, I was able to have peace in my heart. Twelve Myanmar brothers and sisters and seven newly invited people went to the World Camp in Ghana together. These new people had paid a lot of money for traveling expenses, so we were able to travel comfortably (did they pay for the missionary’s travel expenses too?). Myanmar sisters who had sewing skills worked all night to make 5 classroom-sized mosquito nets. Seeing the sisters helping out for the camp in Africa with all of their hearts was a beautiful sight. Once, Pastor Ock Soo Park said, “The Myanmar church will become the church that will support other churches!” This was the moment when the promise came true. “Have a cup of yulmu tea!”
On April of 2012, after the summer retreat was over, I was resting. However, suddenly, I had uneasy feeling on my chest. My blood pleasure shot and I collapsed, and I had to be hospitalized. At the hospital, they gave me tranquilizer and discharged me from the hospital. However, thinking that I should receive a complete medical examination of my heart, I took a flight to Korea on the next day. Nevertheless, I collapsed on the airplane and was sent to the emergency room. After that, I could not get on the airplane because I was too scared. The doctor that I knew suggested that I take a sleeping pill. Two months later, I took two strong sleeping pills and got on the airplane. When I woke up, I was already at Incheon Airport. As soon as I arrived in Korea, I was hospitalized

at the Hanyang University Medical Center and received a complete medical examination. The result came out and I was diagnosed with panic disorder. Although it had been a week since I was hospitalized, I did not get better. Rather, the panic disorder became worse and I could not sleep at night. I felt like someone was pouring hot water mixed with chili power on my chest, and I felt like I was riding on a pirate ship. On top of that, I was going through depression. I wanted to kill myself. When I woke up at 2 a.m., my wife was sleeping by the small guest bed. I felt really bad to see my wife going through much suffering on the small bed. I went out to the hallway and asked a nurse for some sleeping pills. The nurse told me that she could not give it to me because I was taking too much sleeping pills already. I had no other choice but to walk around the 80 meter long hallway until dawn. When I looked at myself, I became speechless. Just 10 days ago, I was preaching the Gospel in Myanmar…. Even though I had come to Korea, I could not even contact my relatives. It was because when I looked at myself lying on the bed in the hospital, I looked so pitiful. “Ah! 10 years of ministry. All I have left is panic disorder! I may die like this!” As I thought of this, I cursed without realizing it. Like Elisha was there for Naaman, there was a servant of God for me. That was the only hope that I had. I took off the IV needle and went to the Good News Gangnam Church to meet Pastor Ock Soo Park. “Pastor, I have panic disorder. I can no longer get on the airplane. Please send another missionary to Myanmar. And… just give me a room at the Dae Deok Retreat Center. I will live there cleaning garbage.” Panic disorder gets better when those who have it live in the countryside and walk around in the forest. I wanted to quit my ministry and go to the Dae Deok Retreat Center. Pastor Park heard me and said, “Hey, why do you have so much worries? You could get healed and go back to Myanmar. Your disease is nothing. Just have a cup of yulmu tea!” Pastor made the tea for me. Until then, I was not able to eat properly for a week. A cup of yulmu tea brightened up my eyes and gave me energy. Pastor Park continued to give me fellowship. “You, don’t you condemn yourself because you don’t have faith?” “Yes.” “You don’t have to do that. What you are going through now is the providence of God, which will broaden your spiritual life and

move you to the spiritual world. That is why we need the cross. We died with Jesus. At that moment, your disease also died. Now, you are a new creature. You have been perfected eternally. You have to believe the Word. You may have symptoms, but they are already dead.” Pastor gave me hands on prayer. He established only the Word of God in my heart. “God gave me the cross to give me a new world. The cross was not just a place to take care of my sins. It finished the life of living as myself and was the door to the world of Jesus. God allowed me to have panic disorder in order to lead me to that door. Yes, these visible symptoms are already dead on the cross. The Word of being eternally perfected is the truth.” Peace came into my heart.

Accepting a thought, “I’m not perfect,” was the same as salt losing its flavor. When I fell into my thoughts, I became a person who could not get on the airplane to return to my ministry. Eventually, I became a toy of Satan. “I am already salt! I am perfected!” As the Words Pastor spoke to me settled in my heart as life and peace, I was able to be completely free from anxiety. When a missionary only works diligently, he will confront God
“People who try to live their spiritual lives diligently are foolish! People who do things diligently can never catch up to the people who do things with happiness and joy!” I was able to see my image, as I was able to recall Pastor Ock Soo Park’s sermons. “Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death” (Exodus 31:15). God hates when people work on the Sabbath day. The Sabbath day is a day when people give glory and thanks to God, while eating food that God has prepared for them. If a person does not enjoy what God has prepared and just works on the Sabbath day, that person would be confronting God. The world of Jesus Christ is a new world. It is different from this world. It is not a world where men work. Only Jesus works. I was a person who was already in Jesus Christ-the master of the Sabbath day. However, I was trying to do ministry diligently following my old custom. I was a man of deed and law who tried to work on the Sabbath day. I was the one who had to die. Jesus only works through grace. That was why a man who follow their own deeds cannot help but to go against Jesus. The reason why the first son, in Luke 15, could not enjoy everything which his father could provide for him was because he was a man of deeds. Once, Pastor Ock Soo Park preached about this, “God sent you all abroad so you all could return to Him. However, you just diligently did ministry. When a missionary only works diligently, he will become a person who confronts God. Only Jesus does ministry. All we have to do is rest and enjoy everything in the Father’s arms. At that time, I could not understand what the pastor was talking about. God gave us the world where everything is already finished. He never told us to accomplish anything. That is why people who try to live their spiritual lives diligently are foolish and those who

work diligently end up going against the church. Spiritual life should not be done by diligence, but it should be done through the happiness and joy that came when we believed the promise of God by faith. “Because thou servedst not the Lord thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things; Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the Lord shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put “Because thou servedst not the Lord thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things; Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the Lord shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee” (Deuteronomy 28:47-48). The commemoration of publication, an amazing and unexpected event
“What do you want to do?” That was the question that I had before The Christmas Welcoming Event while I was listening to the Sunday sermon from the Good News Gangnam Church. Pastor Ock Soo Park preached about a man who had an infirmity for 38 years in the Bible. Jesus asked the man, “Wilt thou be made whole?” At that time, the sick man was able to speak of everything that was

in his heart. Until then, there was no one who would listen to the deep resentment in his heart, but Jesus let him pour his resentment out. I felt that Jesus was doing the same to me. He was telling me to pour my heart out by asking a question, “What do you want to do?” I answered, “I want to hold a commemoration of publication of Pastor Ock Soo Park’s book, “Who Are You, Who is Dragging Me” at his signing event!” Actually, it was impossible to publish a book in Myanmar because Myanmar was under military dictatorship. However, when we took a step by faith, we were able to see what God had prepared for us. Actually, there was a law enacted on April of 2012, which allowed people to publish books after censorship beside religious and political books. Just like that, by the grace of God, we were able to publish the book, “Who Are You, Who is Dragging Me” at after one year of preparation. Through the commemoration of publication, a new way for the Gospel opened. Many public figures, such as the Minister of the Kayin tribe, the chief of the police department, the president of a university, and so on, attended the commemoration of publication. We were able to let them know about the world of the heart. There was a chance for us to hold mind lectures in universities to deliver the heart of God and three broadcasting stations covered the commemoration of publication of Pastor Ock Soo Park’s book and televised his interview. During that time, the brothers and sisters in 20 churches in Myanmar saw the interview of Pastor Ock Soo Park on MN TV, Myanmar’ national broadcasting station, and an advertisement saying, “The Christmas Welcoming Event will be on air.” The brothers and sisters were overwhelmed. As the brothers and sisters who suffered because of people who persecuted the church and the Gospel saw the Christmas Welcoming Event and ‘Good News Mission’ logo on TV, they were really happy and were able to forget about past difficulties and experienced being more than conquerors through God. In addition, one of the deans of the Mandalay Institute of Technology (MIT) was touched by the book, “Who Are You, Who is Dragging Me”, and invited Pastor Ock Soo Park to his school. Many students came to the lecture and listened to the pastor’s sermon well. They also heard about activities within IYF. During the vacation, around 100 students participated in the IYF camp and most of them were saved.

In Soo and I, critical patients who were supposed to be dead In 2014, I attended the World Camp in Korea. I met my friend Pastor In Soo Heo, and he said. “Dae In! In our church, congregation members bring rice cakes on Sunday even when they have cancer!” As I heard what he was saying, I thought, “What is he talking about? Even though they would be healed by faith, at least for 3 days, shouldn’t we comfort them and show our concern? It’s not a simple cold, but cancer…. I think he’s going overboard.” Pastor Heo continued to talk. “Recently, a sister who got cancer came and had counseling and returned home. However, she called back and asked, “Pastor, if Lazarus’ sickness was for the glory of God, then the reason why God gave me cancer should also be for the glory of God, right?” So, I said, “Yes, you are right.” She replied, “Then, getting cancer is not a reason for sorrow but for happiness. Since it’s something we should celebrate, could I bring rice cakes to Sunday service?” I told her that she could do that. On Sunday, all brothers and sisters at the Good News Gangdong Church ate the rice cakes together and glorified God!” His testimony made me feel ashamed. I could not do that to the brothers and sisters. I was such a humanistic person. The next day, In Soo and I participated in the 5K Marathon during the World Camp. In Soo finished the marathon in 133th place and I finished it in 219th place. Suddenly, In Soo said, “Dae In, both of us got first place!” “Why?” “I came in first place among cancer patients and you came in first place among patients with panic disorder, aren’t we?” “Yes, you are right. We both got first place.” We were truly happy. In Soo and I were critical patients who were supposed to be dead. Eutychus, in Acts 20, fell into a deep sleep and fell down from the third loft. At that time, everyone thought, “He is dead.” However, Paul embraced him and said, “Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.” People’s murmuring sounds were the voices of Satan. When Pastor In Soo Heo’s cancer relapsed for the third time, and when I had panic disorder and dengue fever, most people thought that we were done for. However, Pastor Ock Soo Park said, “That’s nothing!” He also said "we live." We have the servant of God, who like Paul, saved Eutychus. So, even today, we are living our lives with happiness and joy serving the Gospel.

New York Times: Notes on Genesis I
Ham Was Led by Satan Pastor Ock Soo Park | Good News Gangnam Church
And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness. (Genesis 9:18~23)

am I fighting?” and all the fighting and blaming would come to an end. Hatred, sadness, despair, distrust, lust, etc., such things do not just happen to arise in our hearts. Satan stirs up such thoughts inside of us. Ham was one among the saved who was used by Satan, while Shem and Japheth were people within the guidance of God. What did Noah do after waking from his sleep? He knew what Ham had done and cursed him, saying, “Cursed be Canaan: a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.” When we see this, we feel, “Did he have to go as far as to curse his own son?” Which Side Do You Belong To? Who do the soldiers shoot at during a war? Do they shoot at people who have committed adultery, theft, murder, or those who have lied? Soldiers do not shoot based on whether a person is good or evil. The only standard is whether that person is the enemy or not. No matter how good a person he is, it is the enemy the soldier will shoot. And no matter how evil he is, if he is an ally, the solider will not shoot him. When I was serving in the military, there were many seniors of mine who had participated in the Korean War. They would say that during an actual battle, they would become terribly exhausted and fall asleep, and when they woke up in the middle of the night, they could not tell if the person next to them was an enemy or an ally. At the time, the North Korean soldiers cut their hair extremely short while the South Korean soldiers had a small amount of hair remaining. In turn, they would

Ham Felt Uncomfortable with His Father’s Nakedness Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. He entered the ark with his three sons and received salvation. Noah’s three sons were saved in the ark, but it was not that Satan did not work upon them. They too would fall into wickedness and sin when Satan would work upon them. One day, Noah was drinking wine, became drunk, and fell asleep naked in the tent. Ham, the father of Canaan, saw this. Since they were in the tent, Ham could easily see everything and in his heart, he thought, “Father may get drunk, but this is too much. What would his daughters-in-law do if they saw this?” Ham always had an uncomfortable heart toward his father, and one day, told his brothers, “Father was once again drunk and naked in his tent today. I can’t take seeing that anymore.” When Shem and Japheth heard these words, they took a garment on their shoulders and, walking backwards so as to not see their father’s nakedness, they covered the lower part of their father’s body. It is very easy for us to simply think, “Ham was bad, while Shem and Japheth were thoughtful and good.” But what Ham did didn’t simply happen. Satan was leading Ham’s thoughts. In John chapter 13, verse 2, it says that the devil put into the heart of Judas Iscariot the thought to sell Jesus. If Satan suddenly entered into a bottomless pit, the whole world would be shocked. People who are swinging their fists and fighting would say, “What am I doing? Why

touch the person’s hair, and if it was extremely short, he was killed. Their only standard in fighting was to see if that person was an ally or an enemy. The standard of good and evil that God has is completely different from our standard of good and evil. In our standard, we are good if we help our neighbors, and we are evil if we commit theft, adultery, and murder. Is that also the standard of God? Does God allow us into heaven because we did something good, and would He send us to hell for doing something evil? This is the standard of good and evil Satan has taught us, which is very different from God’s. Adam and Eve, the ancestors of mankind, departed from the domain of God’s heart and dwelled within the domain of Satan’s heart. There, they received thoughts from Satan, and committed sins of hatred, adultery, and murder. There can be no murder, hatred, or curse within the heart of God. Satan entered the heart of man, and man began to sin from that point onward. Therefore, God does not question the results of sin; whether or not you have committed adultery or theft. God judges according to: “Do you belong to God or to Satan?” God not only made the eyes, mouth, and flesh of man, but He also created the heart. The heart is the channel by which man can connect with God. We can believe in God, receive God into our hearts, and serve God from our hearts. Even if a person has committed many terrible sins, all things change in a single moment when his heart
enters God. This is exactly like the prodigal son becoming holy and clean through the father when he returned to his father’s house, although he did nothing. This was so even though the son returned in filthy clothes as a beggar. No matter what sin we may have committed, our hearts are restored, cleansed, and made holy when we enter the domain of the heart of God. On the other hand, no matter what good we may have done, if we are outside the domain of the heart of God, it leads to destruction because we are connected with Satan. One may think that he is doing well or doing good things, but that person is being controlled by Satan and will ultimately go against God. According to the standard of good and evil of man, people are considered good if they go to Sunday services, do good deeds, and refrain from committing sins. But this is a thought resulting from Satan’s deception. From the moment Adam and Eve left the heart of God through eating the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, they belonged to Satan. Man’s thoughts then became dragged by Satan to commit various sins. The problem is not that you are committing sins, but that your heart has left the domain of God and has entered the domain of Satan. The Problem Is Having Become One with the Heart of Satan Ham was saved, but he was deceived by Satan and his heart was steadily led by Satan. Although they were brothers, Shem and Japheth 36
No matter what sin we may have committed, our hearts are restored, cleansed, and made holy when we enter the domain of the heart of God. Isaac cursed Esau. I thought, “How could a father curse his own son like that?” and I could not understand. However, he was not cursing his son. He was cursing that heart that belonged to Satan. Because Good Lies Only in God We must return to God for us to live spiritual life well. We must depart from the world of our own hearts. All of our hearts have been connected to the heart of Satan from Adam’s sin since we are the descendents of Adam. Therefore, Satan continually puts evil hearts inside of us. One day, the devil put the thought into the heart of Judas Iscariot that it would be great to sell Jesus and make some money. At first, when Judas Iscariot had this thought, he felt, “What? Why am I having such thoughts? I can’t believe I want to sell Jesus!” But he thought that this thought was his own, and he ultimately followed this thought. He eventually sold Jesus, but he did not spend any of the money. He committed suicide. Satan puts thoughts inside of us by stirring up the heart in us to make us feel that all will be well. Why do we become cursed and destroyed? The people whom God destroyed during Noah’s flood were not people who committed murder, adultery, or some terrible sin. When God said, “Every imagination of
37
New York Times
thought in their hearts, “Father has gotten drunk and is lying asleep, naked. He is not usually like this, but he is this way because he is drunk. We’d better cover him before anyone else sees him.” Ham did not feel this way. He thought, “Father always gets naked whenever he drinks! He did that last time, and the last time, my wife almost passed by! I don’t know what’s wrong with my father!” He was full of complaint in his heart. His heart of complaint, itself, was not the problem, but his heart had become one with Satan who had stirred up that heart. Therefore, repentance is not repenting from the results of the sins of stealing, committing adultery, or murder, but one must repent from having left God. One must say, “It is not working because I am trying to do good without turning to God. I can only do evil regardless of how much I try to do good!” and turn his heart around. His heart must be led into the world of God. Deep in your heart, you must realize, “Why is such an evil, hateful, and lustful heart arising in me? What is wrong with my heart? This is how dirty the heart of man is who has departed from God!” and from your heart, return unto God. This is true repentance; true faith. We can see words like this in other places in the Bible. When Esau begs for blessings after Isaac had just finished blessing Jacob, we see that
New York Times: Notes on Genesis I
the thoughts of man’s heart is only evil continually,” this evilness is the condition of having left God. Good is entering the world of the heart of God. When someone asked Jesus, “Good master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered, “Why callest thou me good? There is no one good but God alone.” Because God is the only one who is good, we must come before God if we want to receive goodness. When there is no water deep in the mountains but from a small fountain, one should look for that fountain when he is thirsty. He cannot get any water elsewhere. Likewise, good exists nowhere in this world, but only in God. Therefore, we must come before God. In your heart, Satan makes you think, “All I have to do is go to church and be good. I only need to live honestly and not sin.” Today, there are many Christians who pursue after goodness in this manner. But there is no one who can do good through pursuing goodness with their own effort and determination. It is because our hearts are connected with Satan and evil continually flows inside of us. If you closely search within yourself, the evil hearts of hatred and lust continually arise in you even though you want to do good. If you think objectively about yourself, you will be able to see that no matter who you are, you are as dirty, filthy, lustful, and deceitful as anyone else if all the things of your hearts were revealed exactly as they are. That is
why people try to hide their evil heart when it arises and act as though it is not there. People try to suppress that heart and create good. This may appear to be good to you, but in the eyes of God, it has already come from an evil place, and therefore, He does not call it good. Forsake Your Ways and Your Thoughts and Return Ham’s heart departed from the heart of God. He accepted Satan’s thoughts into his heart. Since man’s heart became connected with Satan after Adam sinned, the thoughts in us do not simply arise, but come from Satan. That is why we must deny those thoughts. You must distrust yourself. “God, I cannot do any good. I am so filthy and dirty. I am evil to the core. Now I cannot do it, so you must lead me, God.” Throwing away your thoughts and your heart in this manner and accepting the heart of God is true faith. Isaiah chapter 55 says, Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. (Isaiah 55:6~7) We must throw our ways and thoughts away and return to God. The thought, “I’d better live as a good person,” must also be thrown away. You must accept the word of the Lord exactly as it is into your heart. People who were destroyed at the time of Noah’s flood followed their own thoughts because they were deceived by Satan. When God said that He would destroy the world with 38

I realized this clearly in my heart. From then on, I no longer believed in my thoughts, but in the Word of God, and accepted the heart of God as my own. I did not know what to do because I did not believe in myself. However, from then on, there was the guidance of God and the Word of God began to enter my heart. And in turn, God began to amazingly live and work inside of me. Loving folks, do not think that you can go to heaven through you doing good and obeying the Word of God. Leave yourself to God completely. The father could not do anything for the prodigal son outside his home, but when his son came home, the father thoroughly cleansed and perfected his Do Not Think That You Will Go to son. Likewise, when you leave yourself Heaven Through Doing Good I lived according to my own to God, God will make you whole. He thoughts before becoming born again. takes charge of everything and makes I thought things would go well, but your life new. He washes your sins when I look back, I had failed, and away no matter how many you may I did not become good although I have and He renews your life. A long time ago, I believed in thought I would. Not one thing went well. But one day, I deeply looked myself, and when I tried to live honestly at myself and saw how, as a whole, I and refrain from sinning, I fell into sin was completely wrong and deceitful. everyday. But when I left my soul in
water, Satan put into each person a heart different from the Word of God. “Why would God, full of love, punish the world? He is only warning us to not sin. We just have to be good.” People simply believed in this thought. It was a very uncertain thought, but they had no idea that it was from Satan. Thus, they did not help build when Noah was building the ark, but they despised Noah for building. Satan also said that man would not die from eating the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil while God said that man would die. Satan always puts into our hearts thoughts that are different from the Word of God.
There is the guidance of God from then on, and you will be able to live a holy life. Hatred will disappear if the heart of God enters you.
the hands of God, I could experience God making me distant from sin. I cannot say in words how thankful I am. True Faith Is Entering the Heart of God Noah cursed Ham. Judas Iscariot was selected by Jesus, but was led by Satan down the path of destruction. Likewise, Ham was saved through the ark, but with the thoughts of Satan, he judged his father with his own standards, went out, and spoke ill of his father. This was not done by Ham himself, but Satan inside of him had done this. When Satan works inside of you, he first inserts a thought into you. If anyone continually follows that thought, Satan then enters that person’s heart. That person, in turn, becomes crazy. He loses his sanity, doing whatever Satan tells him to, and ends up committing evil. You must come to know that the thoughts that arise in you are not your own, but are thoughts inserted by Satan. If you simply follow the thoughts that arise in you, you can only be cursed. Let’s think about
it: the hateful heart that suddenly arises in you, where did it come from? Where did the lustful heart come from? Where did the heart of wanting to steal come from? Those thoughts do not simply arise out of nowhere. They were inserted by Satan. We do not know that they are thoughts from Satan, so we simply follow those thoughts. That was how Ham was. Once again, believing in God is not realizing that you have stolen or committed adultery, then making up your mind and laboring not to do such things again. It is entering the heart of God. It is leaving yourself in God’s hands. There is the guidance of God from then on, and you will be able to live a holy life. Hatred will disappear if the heart of God enters you. David did not have the heart to kill Saul, and Joseph did not have the heart to hate his brothers. It was because David and Joseph had the heart of God. You cannot become good no matter how hard you try while you are in the heart of Satan. But if you enter the world of the heart of God, naturally, you will come to live a holy, good life of glorifying God.

Nabal & Abigail Pastor Kim Sung Hoon Good News Daegu Church
Nabal Who Was Called Foolish in the Bible And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel. Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb. (1 Samuel 25:2-3)

Desert of Paran one of the places where the Israelites spent part of their 40 years of wandering after the Exodus
Nabal was a rich man in 1 Samuel 25, who was also described as being harsh and surly. David (who was not yet king) and his band of men who had been outlawed by King Saul were living off the Wilderness of Paran and providing voluntary protection to the shepherds in the area.
The story in 1 Samuel chapter 25 is like a compressed version of the Bible. At the time the story takes place in the Desert of Paran, a man named David was chased into the fields of the mountains by King Saul and was hiding out in a place called Maon. This man by the name of Nabal was the richest amongst all who lived in Maon. Nabal had thousands of sheep. When the sheep were grazing in the fields, David’s men watched over Nabal’s sheep and because of this Nabal became even richer. One day, Nabal was shearing his sheep on a day similar to Thanksgiving. As David couldn’t eat properly on this day, when he heard Nabal was hosting a feast, he sent a few servants to go in place of him. The servants went to Nabal and said, “We are the servants of David. Since we have watched over your sheep, give us some bread and water.” Nabal replied, “Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? There be many servants now a days that break away every man from his master. Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give it unto men, whom I know not whence they by?”

Gospel Lesson
Nabal cursed David. He said to David’s servants, “Who does David think he is? Who does he think he is that I should give him bread?” He was angry and chased them out. Everyone, the name Nabal means “foolish.” However, if you look closely in the Bible, Nabal is actually not a dumb person. He was a man with brains. The Bible calls those kinds of people “foolish.” Is there a difference between what people say is foolish and what the Bible says is foolish? In the Bible, it says people who do not have knowledge of God are foolish. People who are foolish towards God are people who are very developed in the flesh. Of course, Nabal was also a person who was very developed in the flesh as well. There was a reason behind Nabal refusing to give David bread. Who is the king of that country at the time? It was Saul. David was someone who was running away from Saul. That was why if he gave David bread and water, he would be going against Saul. Nabal was a rich man in the land, so don’t you think he wanted to look good in front of the King to invest and prosper more? In that situation, if Nabal gave bread to David, Saul would have hated him. Nabal was very clear with calculations and acted in ways that would benefit himself. “Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? There be many servants now a days that break away every man from his master.” (1 Samuel 25:10) Nabal knew David was the son of Jesse. In fact, there was no one in Israel who didn’t know David. The fact that David killed Goliath made him a brave commander that was known in all of Israel. There was no way a rich man like Nabal would have not known David and Saul’s relationship. Nabal knew Saul was seeking after David. Now, I will ask you all. Who does Nabal think owns Israel? He thinks Saul owns Israel. It looked like this in Nabal’s eyes. Nabal had a desire to flourish with things of the flesh under Saul. He was someone who was not knowledgeable about God. Because of that, he refused David, the one who

was anointed as king by God. David heard Nabal’s words from his servants and replied. “And David said unto his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the stuff.” (1 Samuel 25:13) David decided to kill Nabal. David killed Nabal in his heart. David had already killed Nabal and all the men under Nabal. David was Nabal’s wall. Nabal had received all things inside of David’s wall. “They were a wall unto us both by night and day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.” (1 Samuel 25:16) However, Nabal says, “The sheep are mine.” He tried to hold on to his possessions, but this is called “sin.” Before, I explained that if man tried to be his own master, it meant that his relationship with God is broken and he is going his own way. It is sin to think that they are there on their own, although they are there because of God. Everyone, you thought that you are your own master, right? But what do you know about yourself? Do you know about your pupils or your heart organ? You don’t know anything about yourself. It is because you are here through God. However, people think everything is their own. Why did David decide to kill Nabal? It was because he stole from God’s possessions. Nabal’s servants heard that David was going to kill Nabal and they went to Nabal’s wife, Abigail. “But the men were very unto us, and we were not hurt, neither missed we any thing, as long as we were conversant with them, … Now therefore know and consider what thou wilt do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him.” (1 Samuel 25:15-17) As Abigail listened to the words of the servants, death came to her in her heart. The decision David had made in his heart that was spoken through the servants’ lips had moved Abigail’s heart. Abigail was now a dead life. Nabal was also a dead life. However, Nabal was drunk off of wine. He did not know that he would be dead at all. Abigail looked at Nabal, who was supposed to be trembling. He was truly a foolish person. A man drunk by himself and living forgetting the truth.

Nabal Who Died, The Flesh
This story in the Bible is amusing. Nabal represents our flesh, which rebels against God and dislikes God. Whereas, Abigail represents our spirit. Our spirit has a heart to yearn for our soul. God made our spirit to have us seek God. Our flesh is the foolish person and our spirit is the wise person. However, the problem is Nabal and Abigail don’t live separately. They live in one house. Our flesh and spirit live in one house. Abigail knew that Nabal was foolish and that he did wrong and although she knew the fact that David was right, she still served Nabal and lived this way as she received the things of Nabal. She knew Nabal’s wickedness and vaguely liked David, but she was on Nabal’s side which is not the side of David. Many people who stay in this state in their hearts think goodly of Jesus and goodly of the Word, but they have never moved from the flesh to Jesus Christ. Living in this state is the problem. Then, when is our heart moved over? When did Abigail’s heart exactly move over from Nabal to David? It was when the decision made in David’s heart was moved to Abigail’s heart exactly. “Oh, I will be dying if I stay with Nabal. I thought he was just a foolish man, but he will drive me to death.” A decision was made in Abigail’s heart. Then, her attitude changed. “Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched corn, and an hundred clusters of raisins, and two Abigail hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on asses. was the wife of Nabal; she And she said unto her servanst, Go on before me; became a wife of David after Nabal's death. In the passage behold, I come after you. But she told not her from 1 Samuel 25, Nabal husband Nabal.” (1 Samuel 25:18-19) demonstrates ingratitude towards David, and Abigail Abigail is leaving in haste. Look at verse 23. attempts to placate David “And when Abigail saw David, she hasted, in order to stop him taking and lighted off the ass, and fell before David on revenge. She gives him food, and speaks to him, urging her face, and bowed herself to the ground.” (1 him not to have "offence of Samuel 25:23) heart unto my lord, either that thou hast shed blood What is this? Abigail thought of herself as causeless" (verse 31, KJV) som eone who was going to die. She got off in and reminding him that God will make him "a sure house" haste and fell before David on the ground. She (verse 28). wanted to receive grace. The funny truth about
46
this is; when Abigail went to David, she put bread, wine, sheep and harvest in front of him. After she made it up to David, she asked for grace. This is the attitude we have when we go out in front of God. Just like David decided in his heart that he would destroy Nabal and his household, God has already cursed man. God cannot accept our life. It is something we need in order to be the ones who have received from God. What does the bread and wine that Abigail brought in front of David represent? It represents the blood of Jesus Christ and his torn body. This is the only way we will be able to stand in front of God. Jesus’ body that was nailed to the cross and the blood He shed is the only way to God’s heart. Jesus, or in other words, the air became different on the cross. Jesus came between God and us to be nailed on the cross. Now, God sees us through Jesus Christ and accepts us. Truly, God has promised that He will remember our sins no more through the blood of Jesus Christ. After Abigail bowed down on the ground in front of David, she said this. “Let not my Lord, I pray thee, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I thine handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom thou didst send.” (1 Samuel 25:25) Abigail is cursing her husband immensely. “My lord, … now let thine enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.” (1 Samuel 25:26) Abigail said she wanted David’s enemies to become like Nabal. She thinks of Nabal as an enemy. Even a moment before, she did not have this kind of heart. She thought, “He’s foolish but okay to live with.” However, now she said Nabal is an enemy. Because he was a foolish man, she said she could not speak with him. She meant that his words have no meaning and not to listen to them. Abigail truly came out of Nabal in her heart. That was how she became harmonious with David. “When the Lord shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel;” (1 Samuel 25:30) Abigail actually told Nabal, “David was actually going to kill you. You were as good as dead.” When Nabal heard this, he froze like a rock. He couldn’t move. Just as I mentioned before, Nabal is a representation of your flesh. However, if you look in the Bible, Abigail won over Nabal in her heart. It
47
Gospel Lesson
has drawn how our spirit wins over our flesh. Abigail is not afraid of her flesh in her heart. Why is that? It is because she found the identity of the flesh. Nabal was a man who had no choice but to die and he was already dead in the heart of David. Abigail knew that Nabal was a dead man and she left from Nabal in her heart to go to David. Because she did this, she did not fear Nabal even a little. Everyone, you must have this attitude towards your flesh in your heart just like Abigail. When was Nabal not able to move? It was when he found out about the decision David had made in his heart and he had to stand before it. It is the same with our flesh. Although our flesh continually drags us to sin, our sin will become like a stone if we stand sternly in the Word of God that has already made a decision about our flesh. It will not be able to move. Towards our flesh that loves alcohol, cigarettes and sin, sternly the Word will say, “Hey you! You have already been finished. You have already been finished on the cross! and your flesh will not be able to move. If you look in the Bible, about ten days after, God struck Nabal and he died. What that shows is the truth that God has finished our sins through Jesus Christ who has been crucified on the cross. Just like God had struck Nabal, Jesus Christ on the cross, struck our flesh. Our flesh has been finished. We cannot do anything about our flesh. We are not the ones who remove the temptations of our sins. God has already struck our flesh. How would we be able to do anything about our flesh? God has finished our flesh.
A New Life in David
After David heard that Nabal had died and sent people to bring Abigail. The story of Abigail getting married to David is written towards the end of 1 Samuel chapter 25. This story is about how we, who used to serve our flesh, are moved to our true husband Jesus Christ after being removed from our flesh. This is written in Romans chapter 6 and 7, and also Galatians chapter 2. It speaks about what Jesus did on the cross in order to move our hearts to God. How did we live as until now? We lived without having anything to do with the Word, being deceived in our own flesh. For a long time we trusted and relied on our flesh. It is because we have been deceived by Satan. Now, God is leading us to live according to the Word.
48
God has finished our sins through Jesus Christ that has been crucified on the cross. Just like God had struck Nabal, Jesus Christ on the cross, struck our flesh.
The truth that we have received salvation is witnessed by the Word of God. The Word says that we have been saved from sin. It says that we have nothing to do with sin. When we believe that Word, our heart is able to truly come out of sin by the deed of Jesus Christ. The fact that we have come out of sin shows that our hearts have become one with the Word. If our hearts return to the Word and settle on the Word, from then the Word will work in us and will let us live a holy and victorious life. In the Bible, it says, “The truth will set you free.” If the Word of God and our hearts are connected, we become free. We will not be tied down by sin, death or anything else. Until now, haven’t you been dragged by alcohol, if alcohol drags you? However, after we are grafted by the power of Christ, although I could not stop drinking, the Word that is in my heart will react and I will become someone who has already stopped drinking. God has already made our spirit have nothing to do with alcohol and has made us holy. When our heart follows and reacts with the Word without the flesh, this is called faith. In Hebrews chapter 11 verse 1, it describes faith. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” People think vaguely of faith as just “longing for.” However, faith is the “substance” of things hoped for. Faith is the actual substance. In the world, there are illusions and the substance. Illusions are shadows. Things seen in a dream are illusions. Because dreams like finding money or being chased by demons will all disappear when you wake up. “As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakes, thou shalt despise their image.” (Psalms 73:20) Just as we ignore dreams, God had said He will ignore our flesh. The Bible is telling you all that everyone may think we feel with the flesh is the illusion. Then what is the substance? God is the substance and the Word is substance. One day, Jesus told His disciples, “Let us cross to the other side.” They listened to his words and followed Jesus to the other side when they felt the boat would be flipped over because of a storm. They woke Jesus who
49
Gospel Lesson
was sleeping at the time. “Jesus, don’t you see that we will die?” Jesus was hurt by their words. If Jesus said they were going to the other side, they will surely go to the other side, even though they were in the midst of a storm and the boat had shook a lot. The Word is the truth and if Jesus said they would cross, then the boat will surely cross. The problem was however; the disciples were more influenced by what they saw and felt in the situation rather than trusting in the words of Jesus. They felt that they were going to die by the boat flipping over in the storm. The Words of Jesus, “going to the other side” were swallowed away by the waves and the situation. Jesus told the disciples they did not have any faith in there hearts. Jesus was sleeping in the middle of the storm. It is because He knew that the boat would surely not be flipped over. Jesus had to die on the cross for our sins that He held, so He could not drown in the storm. However, the disciples couldn’t believe in Jesus’ words and thought they were going to die. Their hearts leaned towards the situation more than the Word. God truly hopes that we trust in the Word of God. For so long, we lived following our flesh. I hope that now, you will not follow your weak and shaking flesh any longer. If you trust in the Word, it will surely work in your heart precisely. We have trusted in our ears that cannot hear well and our eyes that cannot see straight until now. That was what Nabal did. God removed Nabal. He has removed our flesh on the cross. And by the Word, He has opened an amazing and new world in the Bible to us. Now, we look through the Word as our future and everything that is in front of us. How great and thankful this is!

It is God who Sent them to Meet Us at 3am Testimony of Pastor Ock Soo Park
During my training in the army, God changed my heart to go abroad as a missionary after I was discharged from the army. It’s good to go overseas as a missionary, and God gave me the heart to visit churches and preach the Gospel so that those who suffer in sin can be freed from sin. Going abroad as a missionary was not easy, but staying and working in Korea was not easy either. I often asked myself, “Where must I work, and in which way must I go?” These were questions to which I had no answers. That summer, I was invited as a guest speaker at five different children’s Bible Schools and was able to preach the Gospel there. The first church I went to was in the Kyungbook Sobo Boksung-dong area in the countryside. The next church was in Yongin, Sahu-dong. The third church in was at Namsa Middle School where I held a Bible seminar. The fourth church was a little further from the Namsamyeon Namsa in a town called Waeim. It’s been so long that it’s hard for me to remember all the details. But I do remember that the schedule was very tight. I had to depart for my next Seminar at Waeim right after the conclusion of the Bible seminar at Namsa Middle School because the

seminar at Waeim was scheduled the following day. We departed for Waeim at midnight when it was dark with our guide. This was during the monsoon season so the rains had flooded the streets and navigating was difficult. Our guide previously made this journey four years ago and at times, couldn’t remember the path. We got lost several times! At one place, I gathered everyone together. Our team composed of five witnessing members and six guides. All of us were holding bags, but the ground was wet and we had nowhere to put the bags down to rest. So with the bags in our hands, we prayed to God. “Father God, we are lost. Please show us the way.” Even though we eventually found the way to Waeim, we did not know how to find the home of the minister at Waeim who had invited us. We had to pray with regards to this problem, since we could not wake up the villagers to ask the way. While praying, I had the heart that if it is our loving God who is leading us, we will be able to find the way. “Once we arrive at the village at two or three AM, it would be nice if someone would be out to greet us. God, this is something so easy for you to do.” The heart to pray this way continually arose in my heart. Another part of me thought, “Hey, don’t be foolish. Who would be waiting for you at two or three AM? Even God wouldn’t. In thinking such foolish thoughts, you’re going to embarrass yourself in front of your team.” While praying, a fight arose in my heart. God does have the power to send someone to meet us, but I doubted whether or not God would listen to my prayers and actually send someone. If God would only listen to my prayers, I would be happy to say, “God has listened to my prayers!” But if that wasn’t the case, that would be embarrassing in front of the brothers and sisters, and I was worried that I would seem like someone who only said vain things. However, strangely, God held onto my heart and led it, so I did pray. “God, please forgive the fact that I don’t have faith. It’ll be two or three AM once we arrive at Waeim, and we don’t know the home of the minister who invited us. Please send someone to come out and meet us. You have more than enough power to do so.” Although nobody said it out loud, I felt like the people traveling with me were saying, “Let’s see. Who would come out so late at night?” I actually felt like I could hear them saying, “Let’s see.” When I ended the prayer with an “Amen,” I had the heart to say, “That’s
53
right. From now on, I’ll live believing in God like this. I may seem foolish, but I like having faith to believe in God,” and my heart felt at peace. After the prayer ended, nobody spoke of my prayer. It was the monsoon season, so the night was dark and cloudy. We got lost several more times and eventually arrived at the village around 3am. In front of the village was a Rytiphlaea tree, and under that tree, a few youths were playing. They stuck out their necks and stared as we appeared from the dark with a bunch of things in our hands. Then, after they saw the man who was our guide, they said, “Oh, hello. What brings you here tonight?” The guide answered, “I’ve brought the guest speaker. We thought we’d be late if we departed in the morning, so we decided to make the journey the night before.” It turned out that they were youth members of the church that had invited us. They led us to the minister’s home. On the way, the youths carried our luggage, and I thought, “God, you are truly my God. I’m very embarrassed that just a few hours ago I was unable to fully believe in the Lord who lives and works this way.” I was completely moved. Suddenly feeling curious, I asked the youths, “It’s almost 3am, what were you doing under the tree?” “We thought that a grandfather, who attends our church would pass away last night, so the whole church’s congregation was gathered at his deathbed. But he did not pass away! The room was so stuffy 54
Preaching the Gospel to the Ends of the Earth
and hot that we came out to get some air, and that’s when you came.” I felt deeply that it was God’s doing. Thinking about it, the atmosphere would be disorderly if there were to be a funeral at this tiny church in the village during the Bible seminar, so once again, I prayed as I walked. “Father God, please don’t let that grandfather pass away during the Bible seminar.” We began the Bible seminar in the morning, and until the very last day of the seminar, we did not hear news of the grandfather’s death. Adam was tempted by Satan into eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Ever since, the spiritual world became hazy through our eyes. People depend on the visible materialistic world and their own ways rather than living with the heart to love God and the spiritual world. Satan has killed off our heart to believe in the invisible, and he degraded us into people who believe only when there is proof. But one thing that I am sure of is that although it may seem unstable to put our destiny in God’s hands, we should believe and rely only on God, He will never disappoint us.
