Goodwood Revival 2 019
Foreword As we reach the end of another tremendous motorsport season at Goodwood, I would like to express my gratitude to all our loyal partners after another hugely successful Revival. Without you and all you bring to the occasion, it would not be possible for us to create such an exciting and thrilling event. A great many people have told me they felt that 2019 was one of the very best Revival Meetings since we launched the event back in 1998. Indeed, in terms of atmosphere over the three days, it may have been the best ever. From year to year, the crowd make a bigger and bigger contribution, with more and more fans making the effort to dress in period style, helping to make it a truly unique occasion on the historic racing calendar. As for the racing itself, the Kinrara Trophy, on Friday evening, brought back all those beautiful Ferraris, Aston Martins and Jaguars to do battle at sunset and race on into the dusk. On Sunday we enjoyed what was arguably the most exciting Tourist Trophy Celebration race we have ever seen, with Romain Dumas and André Lotterer fighting it out for victory in their AC Cobras. A real highlight for me was Dario Franchitti’s return to racing, the multiple Indy 500 winner choosing the Revival to make his comeback after years of recovery from his dreadful accident in America. The Whitsun Trophy, always a dramatic race for those seriously powerful sports cars, saw former Grand Prix driver Karun Chandhok take a superb victory from pole in the Can-Am McLaren M1A. Another great moment for me was driving Susie Moss round the circuit in an Aston Martin DBR1 as a salute to ‘Mr Goodwood’, Sir Stirling Moss, whose 90th birthday was just two days after the Revival. The success, and popularity, of the Revival owes a huge amount to the enthusiasm and energy of all our partners. I want to thank you sincerely for your continued commitment and I much look forward to seeing you all back at the motor circuit next year.
