Preface

At GMC, we believe in community, collaboration and using the power of creativity and hard work to make a difference - in our hearts, homes, city, nation and world. We believe in hope, progress, beauty, and big ideas. We believe that people like us, need us. We are not just an engineering firm. We are not just architects. We are artists, designers, thinkers, doers, makers, and storytellers dedicated to doing great work, for good. We partner with passionate and like-minded individuals, businesses, organizations, and causes that have aggressive hopes and goals for tomorrow and beyond. Dreaming big is the only way to make big dreams come true, and we know that our solutions can only be as great as the people we serve. Communities are built by people, not companies. And it is that foundational concept that drives how we approach every project, big or small. Because it’s the passion and drive of individuals that feeds the growth and development of what’s next. Together, we will be smart. We will be relevant. We will be meaningful. We will be kind, supportive, enthusiastic and – at the very least – the very best we can be. We are – and will continue to be – a collaborative organization driven by the power of building better, happier, healthier, thriving communities. And we are committed to working with folks who share our vision for realizing their full potential, because we know that great engineering and architecture helps make communities better, for everyone.

Our Disciplines

Our Comprehensive Approach

GMC is one of the most comprehensive architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast. Our multi-disciplined in-house team of professionals is equipped to provide all of the services associated with architecture, electrical, engineering, environmental, geotechnical, interior design, landscape architecture, planning, surveying and transportation.

By having multiple disciplines under one roof, we are able to streamline communication, improve efficiency and enhance the quality of service to our clients. GMC’s integrated team provides a depth of expertise that allows us to capture the “big picture” and understand the details a project entails. Utilizing our comprehensive approach, we look at

each project from many vantage points to identify creative solutions.

While the company has evolved tremendously since its launch in 1947, our founding principles remain a vital part of our daily operations. GMC is – and will continue to be – a collaborative organization driven by the power of building better, happier, healthier, thriving communities. Our multi-disciplined approach assures a broad base of knowledge on which to develop strategies for both short- and long-term growth that are not only efficient, but culturally appropriate and environmentally accountable. Every project, big or small, is guided by recognizing that great engineering and architecture helps make communities better, for everyone.

Architecture

Creating spaces as inspiring as they are functional.

Whether designing city halls, county admin buildings, fire stations, public works facilities, corporate offices, higher education buildings, K-12 schools, healthcare facilities, hotels and resorts or restaurants, GMC’s architects and interior designers aim to elevate spaces with great design and involved client feedback. Our process is deeply rooted in merging form and function and balancing the formal needs of the project with raw inspiration. Every space has a distinct story to tell, and we work hand-in-hand with our clients from the beginning stages of design all the way through final construction to achieve their vision. We seek to first understand the “must-haves,” and then translate those desires into the most functional, yet cost-effective design solutions. Utilizing tried-andtrue best practices, coupled with current trends and philosophies, we bring perspective, expertise and our belief that design cultivates a true sense of place to every project.

Community Planning

Our comprehensive approach to community planning, design and development recognizes that places are greater than the sum of individual parts.

Recognizing the importance of making all of the right connections and adding value to individual projects, GMC Community Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture and Engineering work together to build cohesive communities and great spaces to live, work and play. These exceptional areas result from the collaboration of planning and design professionals working with the public and private sectors, cities and counties, developers and business interests, not-for profit organizations, as well as state and federal representatives.

GMC strives to achieve creative solutions and cost effective results for community and town master planning and design, neighborhood and town center revitalization, community facility planning and design, greenspace and park planning, complete street planning and design, campus planning, mixed-use and sustainable communities, and economic development. Our expertise includes smart coding, zoning and design guidelines, as well as public-private financing required to achieve comprehensive results.

Water Resources & Treatment

We approach critical infrastructure with quality and longevity in mind.

Water is one of our world’s most critical resources, so we approach this sector with meticulous care. Our clients carry great responsibility each day of the week - and we are here to help them shoulder it with confidence. In an industry where demand, regulations, and technology are ever-changing, we give utilities the tools they need to make sound decisions for a bright future.

For over 70 years, GMC has performed engineering services for water and wastewater utilities throughout the Southeast. Regardless of project size, we assist clients with needs in both system types: drinking water (supply, treatment, storage, and distribution) and clean water (collection, treatment, and discharge). In all project types - new facilities, expansions, upgrades, improvements - we work to see projects delivered smoothly through every phase: need, study, design, funding, permitting, bidding, construction, and start-up.

While we are here to handle the details, we value our relationships with our clients more than anything. At the end of the day, we are here to see utilities succeed in their role to provide safe water and a clean environment for the communities they serve.

Disaster Recovery

Nothing can truly prepare you for a natural disaster.

But you can gain peace of mind through planning and knowing recovery is possible when disaster strikes.

Goodwyn Mills Cawood’s (GMC) Disaster Recovery division works to aid communities before, during and after a natural disaster through debris management planning, debris monitoring, cost recovery and mitigation services.

Recovering from a large disaster is an immensely complex process. Effective oversight of this process is critical to achieving a successful end result. Our approach is to serve the community as a member of the disaster recovery team by bringing our extensive knowledge and understanding of the recovery process. Our goal is to work with the community to help bring them back to a sense of normalcy as quickly as possible. As the community comes together, we are able to restore more than just infrastructure; we are able to restore hope and rebuild in a way that makes them more resilient than ever before.
