BOSTON COLLEGE Head Coach: Frank Spaziani 2010 Record: 7-6 (4-4)

Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Off Coord: Kevin Rogers Founded: 1863

OFFENSE: BC has been one of the most consistent

programs in the country, making its 12th consecutive bowl game last season. QB Chase Rettig beat out ’09 starter Dave Shinskie for the job last season, and showed flashes of high-level play last fall. He will have most of his offensive weapons back. At receiver, the Eagles are deep and get back almost everyone, including Colin Larmond, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last season. TE Chris Pantale is also a useful cog in the passing game. RB Montel Harris is the workhorse, however. He rushed for 1,243 yards last season and is entering his fourth year as a starter. You don’t lose LT Anthony Castonzo on the offensive line and improve, but the Eagles should have a host of players that can step in and start. The BC offense was ranked 109th in the country last season, but has a chance to make a big jump in production. Nate Freese is very reliable on field goals, hitting 22-of-25 last season.

DEFENSE: The Eagles had one of the conference’s

most solid defenses a year ago, giving up just 19.5 points per game. Luke Kuechly, entering his junior year, put up ridiculous numbers as a freshman and sophomore while cementing himself as one of the top LBs in the country. Kuechly led the nation with a whopping 183 total stops last fall. Around the instinctive Kuechly, sophomore OLB Kevin PierreLouis will try to build on an impressive rookie season. The defensive line loses a few starters from a solid unit, but should recover nicely. The secondary, which picked off 20 passes in 2010, loses several key starters but returns CB Donnie Fletcher, a big, physical corner that matches up well with the conference’s taller receivers. A handful of top defenders from a year ago need to be replaced, but Boston College has excellent depth on this side of the ball. 2011 SCHEDULE Sep 3 Sep 10 Sep 17 Sep 24 Oct 1 Oct 8 Oct 22 Oct 29 Nov 3 Nov 12 Nov 19 Nov 25

CLEMSON Head Coach: Dabo Swinney 2010 Record: 6-7 (4-4)

Off Coord: Chad Morris

Clemson, S.C.

OFFENSE: It wasn’t unexpected that quarterback Kyle

Parker would leave the Tigers for a baseball career; Parker had an up-and-down 2010 with just 12 TDs to 11 INTs. Heir apparent Tajh Boyd, who appeared in eight games last year, is an impressive athletic specimen and seems to have all the tools to be a top-flight quarterback. He’ll be working with a brand new offensive coordinator, the creative Chad Morris, who comes over from Tulsa. Boyd will have WR DeAndre Hopkins back, as Hopkins gathered in 637 yards receiving last season. There’s not much experience behind Hopkins, but the Tigers snagged what many consider to be the top WR recruiting class in the country in the offseason. The centerpiece of the offense will be RBs Andre Ellington and Mike Bellamy, a dynamic duo who will give opposing defenses fits. K Chandler Catanzaro had a rough season, including a last-second, potential gametying miss against eventual national champ Auburn.

DEFENSE: Clemson featured a stingy defense last

year that nonetheless faltered a bit at the end of the season. The Tigers will have to replace a slew of stars on defense, including top DE Daquan Bowers. The defensive line should be in good hands, however, with DT Brandon Thompson back as a senior starter. A year ago, Thompson has 7.5 tackles for loss alongside Bowers and could see his productivity rise in 2011. Andre Branch returns as a starter at the other defensive end slot. The linebacking corps returns leading returning tackler Corico Hawkins, who came up with 71 total stops from his position in the middle last year. In the secondary, the Tigers will have to replace interception machine DeAndre McDaniel at safety, but returning starter Rashard Hall, a junior, should keep the position solid along with new starter Jonathan Meeks, who will try to fill McDaniels’ shoes.

FLORIDA STATE Head Coach: Jimbo Fisher

2010 Record: 10-4 (6-2) Tallahassee, Fl.

Off Coord: James Coley Founded: 1851

OFFENSE: Jimbo Fisher impressed in his first season

as head coach, reaching the conference championship game and beating South Carolina in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Now, the Noles are the consensus favorite to win the conference for the first time since 2005. Almost everyone is back from a unit that put up 31.4 points per game except QB Christian Ponder, although there is little doubt that junior EJ Manuel will step into a starring role. It’s Manuel’s team now after Ponder was drafted No. 12 overall. Manuel has excellent game experience with a number of starts in place of the injury-prone Ponder, and has been nothing but impressive during his playing time. Manuel will look to a receiving corps led by senior Bert Reed, who led a balanced unit with 643 yards receiving last season. The running backs are outstanding with Chris Thompson, Ty Jones and Jermaine Thomas leading the way. K Dustin Hopkins is one of the nation’s best, and Greg Reid has jaw-dropping return skills.

DEFENSE: Like the offense, most of the impact players are back as nine starters return for the Noles on defense. FSU is deep, talented and athletic. Defensive coordinator Mark Stoops has a lot to be excited about, and it starts with the cornerbacks. Greg Reid and Xavier Rhodes are back as starters, and Nick Moody and Terrance Parks started at safety a year ago. Lamarcus Joyner is a talented young safety that could challenge one of the incumbents for the starting spot, however. There is a ton of depth behind them, as well. At linebacker, Nigel Bradham was the leading tackler last year with 97 stops from the outside, although the other two LB positions lose their 2010 starters. The line brings back DE Brandon Jenkins, who exploded for 13.5 sacks as a sophomore last season. There aren’t a lot of weaknesses on this side of the ball.

MARYLAND Head Coach: Randy Edsall 2010 Record: 9-4 (5-3)

College Park, MD

Off Coord: Gary Crowton Founded: 1807

OFFENSE: Despite a 9-4 record and a 51-20 Military

Bowl victory over East Carolina, Ralph Friedgen, head coach since 2001 and a former Terrapin player himself, was forced out after last season. Furthermore, headcoach-in-waiting and offensive coordinator Tony Franklin bolted for the Vanderbilt job, but Connecticut’s Randy Edsall, a hot name after taking the Huskies to a BCS bowl, jumps on board. He will go to work with QB Danny O’Brien, who quickly emerged as the best young signal caller in the conference and could be the ACC’s top quarterback as a sophomore. O’Brien matured quickly, throwing for 2,438 yards and 22 TDs to just 8 INTs. His biggest challenge will be finding new receivers to throw to after speedster Torrey Smith graduated, but the Terps are hoping Florida transfer Adrian Coxson pays dividends early. Davin Meggett (team-high 720 rushing yards) and D.J. Adams will benefit from a strong offensive line.

DEFENSE: Seven starters return from a unit that was

middle of the ACC pack last season. But Edsall, a longtime defensive specialist, likes what he sees. This year Maryland could make a leap forward with several all-conference players on the field. Kenny Tate is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound playmaker who Edsall moved from safety to a LB-DB hybrid position; he returns 100 total tackles and three interceptions. The loss of ultra-productive LB Alex Wujciak hurts, but Demetrius Hartsfield is ready for prime time in the middle now. Perhaps the most important player on the defense is DT Joe Vellano, a 6-foot-2, 285-pound junior who notched five sacks last year after breaking in as starter and could see an even more productive season this fall. The secondary should be stout at the cornerback position as athletic seniors Cameron Chism and Trenton Hughes return as starters. At safety, it looks like it will be Eric Franklin’s time to shine after Tate’s position change. Franklin is a hard-hitting junior who started two games in 2010. 2011 SCHEDULE Sep 5 Miami (Fla.) NEWCOMERS FB Tyler Cierski, 6-0, 255 Was one of the nation’s top FB prospects and will play early. DE Quinton Jefferson, 6-4, 225 – Athletic with a big frame; also played 3-4 OLB in HS. OG Nathaniel Clarke, 6-3, 295 – Enrolled in January and could help the OL right away.

NC STATE Head Coach: Tom O’Brien

Off Coord: Dana Bible

2010 Record: 9-4 (5-3)

Founded: 1887

Raleigh, N.C.

OFFENSE: Russell Wilson would have been a four-

year starter as a senior, but he opted to transfer to Wisconsin during the offseason after also flirting with a baseball career. That just means the Mike Glennon era begins a year early. Already a junior, Glennon has waited behind Wilson after signing with the Wolfpack as a star recruit. He’s 6-foot-6, 225 pounds with a rocket arm and good pocket presence, and should be one of the conference’s best signal callers right away. The wide receiver group, however, is thin after some major departures. The leading returning pass catcher is actually TE George Bryan, who tallied 369 yards receiving last season. This likely means an increased role for sophomore RB Mustapha Greene, last year’s leading rusher with 597 yards on the ground. The line was so-so, and will need to improve to help out a rookie at quarterback and facilitate a better running attack. Special teams will feature a new punter and placekicker.

DEFENSE: LB Nate Irving, the quarterback of the defense, graduated. But the Pack had a successful year on this side of the ball and return eight starters overall and lots of key backups. J.R. Sweezy will anchor things in the middle of the defensive line, with Jeff Rieskamp back as a starter on the end. Rieskamp has shown ability to put pressure on the quarterback, and should only improve in his senior year. Terrell Manning is ready to step up as the star of the linebacking corps after Irving’s departure; he brings back 75 total tackles from a year ago. The secondary is deep and experienced, but could stand to improve in the passing game. With almost every starter and backup returning, however, the Pack should be better in this area. S Earl Wolff is a proven commodity and a nasty hitter.

WAKE FOREST Head Coach: Jim Grobe 2010 Record: 3-9 (1-7)

Off Coord: Steed Lobotzke

Winston-Salem, N.C.

Founded: 1834

OFFENSE: Jim Grobe has seen a declining win total

since the height of a conference championship in 2006, suffering back-to-back losing seasons and a nine-loss campaign a year ago. Unfortunately, this won’t likely be a turnaround year for the Demon Deacons, who lack overall talent and depth. Wake finally settled on Tanner Price as the starting quarterback, and the rising sophomore had his moments on the way to 1,349 passing yards. Wake lacked consistency on offense but saw several skill players emerge as the year wore on. One of those players was RB Josh Harris, who came on late to finish with 720 yards on the ground, including an impressive 241 in a loss to Virginia Tech. At wide receiver, Chris Givens is the leader of an athletic group of receivers. The offensive line is the biggest question mark for the Demon Deacons. The unit features top guard Joe Looney, but the rest of the starters are marginal. K Jimmy Newman is very accurate on field goals.

DEFENSE: Hopefully this fall the defensive personnel

will be more familiar with the 3-4, which was installed halfway through last season. But the reality is that Wake was dead last in the conference in scoring defense, giving up 35.8 points per game, and doesn’t have the size or depth to compete with talented offenses. The defense isn’t totally devoid of playmakers, however, and LB Kyle Wilber, who led the team with six sacks and was third in tackles a year ago, leads that list. Wilber will provide pressure from the outside linebacker position. NG Nikita Whitlock is a strange case; the 5-foot-11, 235-pound bulldog manages to be effective despite being nearly 100 pounds lighter than a prototypical 3-4 nose guard. The secondary will need a few returning players to step up in a big way if the defense wants to make a significant improvement.

DUKE Head Coach: David Cutcliffe 2010 Record: 3-9 (1-7)

Off Coord: Matt Luke, Kurt Roper

Durham, N.C.

Founded: 1838

OFFENSE: David Cutcliffe seemingly has the Blue

Devils on the right track; now all they have to do is break through with a .500 season or better for the first time since 1994. The offense has been relatively solid under Cutcliffe and could be as good as it’s been in years this fall, as redshirt junior Sean Renfree is back and ready to produce. Renfree passed for 3,131 yards last season, but has to cut down on interceptions (17 last year). His two main targets are back in WRs Conner Vernon and Donovan Varner, and TE Cooper Helfet emerged as a weapon in the passing game as well. Junior RB Desmond Scott needs to increase his 530 rushing yards from a year ago, and the entire unit could stand to improve. Scott will get the bulk of the carries and can also make plays in the passing game. The offensive line should be improved, and the running game should benefit. Senior K Will Snyderwine was outstanding last season, hitting 21-of-24 field goals.

DEFENSE: Overall lack of talent on the defensive

side of the ball has been the Blue Devils’ downfall for years now. Duke had trouble stopping anyone last season, ranking second to last in the ACC by giving up 35.4 points per game. This season, coordinator Jim Knowles plans to shake things up by using five defensive backs to maximize his personnel. If Duke wants to improve at all in 2011, it will have to get more of a contribution from the defensive line, which generated only 12 total sacks last year and loses 4.5 of them with the graduation of Patrick Egboh. DT Charlie Hatcher will have to step up big-time in his senior season and lead an unproven group. At linebacker, Kelby Brown will be the unit leader with 63 total tackles a year ago, but Abraham Kromah’s (129 total stops) departure will hurt. 2011 SCHEDULE Sep 3 Sep 10 Sep 17 Sep 24 Oct 1 Oct 15 Oct 22 Oct 29 Nov 5 Nov 12 Nov 19

GEORGIA TECH Head Coach: Paul Johnson

Off Coord: Paul Johnson

2010 Record: 6-7 (4-4)

Founded: 1885

Atlanta, GA

OFFENSE: Can incumbent QB Tevin Washington

hold off redshirt freshman Synjyn Days and true freshman Vad Lee? The quarterback race is on after the departure of three-year starter Josh Nesbitt, although Washington goes in as the incumbent after he started for the second half of the year when Nesbitt went down with a broken arm. The running game again led the nation with 323 yards per contest, but the lack of a passing presence killed GT last year. Stephen Hill was the top target last year, but only caught 15 passes and suffered through a number of critical drops. Now a junior, Hill has to increase his production. Whoever starts under center in Tech’s triple option attack will work with Orwin Smith at A-back (516 yards rushing last season) and some combination of Charles Perkins, David Sims, Richard Watson and Preston Lyons at B-back. Reliable K Scott Blair is graduated, and the kicking and punting jobs will be wide open this season.

DEFENSE: The hope is that Al Groh’s unit will improve drastically in year two of the 3-4 scheme. The Jackets gave up 26 points a game last year and will have to lower that number to challenge for a Coastal Division crown once again. DEs Izaan Cross and Jason Peters need to have big years, and the nose tackle rotation of Logan Walls and T.J. Barnes could stand to improve as well. At linebacker, MLB Julian Burnett returns as the team’s leading tackler with 89 total stops and true sophomore Jeremiah Attaochu could be ready to blossom into a star on the outside. The secondary returns good experience, though is still relatively young with sophomores Louis Young, Isaiah Johnson and Fred Holton looking to play starting roles and Rod Sweeting (junior) looking to take over a leadership role at cornerback after the graduation of three-year starter Mario Butler. 2011 SCHEDULE Sep 10 Sep 17 Sep 24 Oct 1 Oct 8 Oct 15 Oct 22 Oct 29 Nov 10 Nov 19 Nov 26

MIAMI Head Coach: Al Golden

Off Coord: Jedd Fisch

2010 Record: 7-6 (5-3)

Founded: 1926

Coral Gables, Fla.

OFFENSE: The Canes are looking to get back on track

with new head coach Al Golden after a 7-6 year and a blowout loss to Notre Dame in the Sun Bowl. Miami quarterbacks threw interception after interception last season, and Golden, who left Temple for the UM job, has made it a priority to cut down on mistakes. Jacory Harris had a miserable season with 15 INTs and just 14 TDs, and has to improve in that area if he wants to hold off sophomore Stephen Morris (who tossed nine picks himself in 153 attempts). The offensive line has the potential to be dominant with four all-ACC-quality returning starters. The Canes lose a lot of wide receiver production with the graduation of Leonard Hankerson, but bring back Travis Benjamin and LaRon Byrd, both of which have the ability to replace Hankerson’s 1,156 yards through the air. Talented RB Storm Johnson transferred unexpectedly to UCF, leaving the speedy Lamar Miller and Mike James to carry the ground game. The graduation of Matt Bosher, one of the country’s best all-purpose kickers, will hurt. DEFENSE: Sean Spence is the leader for the Canes at OLB, and racked up an impressive 111 total tackles and 17 tackles for loss last season. He’s a headhunter who should be one of the best linebackers in the country as a senior. Ray-Ray Armstrong is another preseason all-ACC pick for Miami in the secondary, and along with Vaughn Telemaque forms one of the best safety tandems around. The defensive line was solid but unspectacular last season, but Olivier Vernon returns six sacks from the DE position and should see that number rise this year as a junior. The overall depth of the defense is a concern, however, and DT Marcus Forston needs to step up in a big way as a junior and put more pressure on the opposing quarterback. 2011 SCHEDULE Sep 5 Sep 17 Sep 24 Oct 1 Oct 8 Oct 15 Oct 22 Oct 27 Nov 5 Nov 12 Nov 19 Nov 25

NORTH CAROLINA Head Coach: Everett Withers 2010 Record: 8-5 (4-4)

Chapel Hill, N.C.

Off Coord: John Shoop Founded: 1789

OFFENSE: Butch Davis was fired in late July after over a

year of constant turmoil stemming from improper benefits, a tutoring scandal and alleged misconduct by former assistant John Blake. The Tar Heels still managed eight wins and a Music City Bowl victory over Tennessee despite a season wrecked by suspensions, but Davis couldn’t survive the intense scrutiny. Now, new head coach Everett Withers, who was promoted from defensive coordinator, will have to install a new quarterback after the graduation of four-year starter T.J. Yates, who finished his up-and-down career on a strong note. Redshirt sophomore Bryn Renner appears to be the heir apparent. The wide receiving corps should be strong with Dwight Jones (team-leading 946 yards receiving) and Erik Highsmith back as starters. The running game could continue to be a concern, with Ryan Houston trying to step into the lead role after a year off from the team. Casey Barth is one of the steadiest kickers in the conference and was 19-of-22 on field goals a year ago. DEFENSE: The defensive line has been stellar for the past few years, and this season it will be more of the same. DE Quinton Coples is the cornerstone, as the 6-foot-6, 275-pound senior racked up 10 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss last season. Coples is likely a topfive pick in next year’s NFL Draft and could be in the discussion for major awards as a senior. On the other side, DE Donte Paige-Moss will also apply pressure and DT Tydreke Powell is outstanding. The linebackers should be reliable despite the departures of Bruce Carter and Quan Sturdivant, as MLB Kevin Reddick enters his third year as starter and Zach Brown should step into a larger role on the outside. The secondary, however, is inexperienced. CB Charles Brown returns after not playing last season, which should help.

VIRGINIA Head Coach: Mike London

Off Coord: Bill Lazor

2010 Record: 4-8 (1-7)

Founded: 1819

Charlottesville, VA.

OFFENSE: Mike London’s first season in Charlottes-

ville was unsurprisingly rough, even though the Cavaliers showed some signs of improvement as the season wore on. Virginia should be able to muster more than one conference win this time around. Sophomores Michael Rocco and Ross Metheny are seemingly in a two-man race for the starting quarterback job after Mark Verica’s eligibility expired. Gone also is starting RB Keith Payne, but leading returning rusher Perry Jones (646 yards on the ground) is back. Several backup options, however, need to emerge in the backfield. The wide receivers are solid with reliable senior Kris Burd leading the way. The offensive line returns all but one starter and will be a team strength. An excellent recruiting class that London put together could yield early contributors at the skill positions. The Cavs have a solid group of senior specialists in K Robert Randolph and P Jimmy Howell.

DEFENSE: Virginia struggled last year when forced to

change from former head coach (and defensive guru) Al Groh’s 3-4 system, and it showed in the numbers. The Cavaliers allowed 28 points and just under 400 yards per game last season, giving up big numbers to the likes of Duke (55 points in a November loss). With another year of experience in the 4-3 and seven returning starters, UVA hopes to see marked improvement. It all starts with senior DE Cam Johnson, who excels at pressuring quarterbacks. The rest of the line needs to improve production. LaRoy Johnson is back as starting OLB and is the team’s leading returning tackler with 66 total stops, but linebacking depth is a concern. Chase Minnifield will be the top name in the secondary. He snagged six interceptions last year and will be one of the conference’s best ball hawks as a senior. The Cavaliers will get better on this side of the ball under second-year coordinator Jim Reid, but how much better is the question. 2011 SCHEDULE Sep 3 Sep 10 Sep 17 Sep 24 Oct 1 Oct 15 Oct 22 Oct 27 Nov 5 Nov 12 Nov 19 Nov 26

VIRGINIA TECH Head Coach: Frank Beamer

Off Coord: Bryan Stinespring

2010 Record: 11-3 (8-0)

Founded: 1872

Blacksburg, VA.

OFFENSE:The Hokies won the conference yet again

last season, and again had a disappointing BCS bowl showing with a 40-12 blowout loss to Stanford in the Orange Bowl. This season, VT will be second fiddle to an emerging FSU squad within the conference, but should still be the favorite to win the Coastal Division. Tyrod Taylor leaves a void at quarterback. The starter for most of three seasons, Taylor was a fan favorite and came up with some big games during his time in Blacksburg. Sophomore Logan Thomas, however, has onlookers raving. He’s 6-foot-6 and a powerful 245 pounds in the mold of 2010 Heisman winner Cam Newton. His receivers will be reliable, with Jarrett Boykin and Danny Coale leading the way. At running back, David Wilson should be ready to shine. The Hokies lose a ton of production from early draft entrees Ryan Williams and Darren Evans, but Wilson may be the most athletic of the three.

DEFENSE: It didn’t look like a vintage Bud Foster defense last season, as the overall playmaking ability was down across the board. The run defense was especially leaky, but Foster has hopes that his young front seven will continue to develop. LB Bruce Taylor is the top tackler and a star on the rise. He will benefit from improved play on the line, and it starts with sophomore DE James Gayle. Gayle will get the starting nod and has the potential to be a top pass rusher for the Hokies. Gayle won’t be the only young gun on the DL, as VT will need several untested players to step up. In the secondary, CB Jayron Hosley will be one of the nation’s top cover corners. Last season, he came up with nine interceptions to lead the country. The Hokies are youthful on ‘D’, but have the pieces in place to have a killer unit down the road.

FLORIDA Head Coach: Will Muschamp 2010 Record: 8-5 (4-4)

Gainesville, Fl.

Off Coord: Charlie Weis Founded: 1853

OFFENSE:The Gators will sport a new look on the sidelines this year, with former Texas head-coach-inwaiting Will Muschamp coming on board to replace the ultra-successful Urban Meyer. Also new in Gainesville is offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, who left his job as the OC of the Kansas City Chiefs. Weis will inherit an interesting situation at quarterback. Last season, John Brantley struggled mightily in the spread system and platooned with two other QBs, but Weis may have better success with the senior in a pro style set. The receiving corps is still a work in progress, however. Deonte Thompson led the unit with 570 receiving yards last year, and is back as a senior. Sophomore Quinton Dunbar and junior Omarius Hines will have their chance to step up and produce. The speedy Chris Rainey will be the primary ball carrier this season. Brantley’s fellow QBs from a year ago — Trey Burton and Jordan Reed — will end up as the starting fullback and tight end, respectively.

DEFENSE: Star CB Janoris Jenkins packed up and

left for North Alabama after being dismissed for legal trouble, and the defense will be breaking in a number of young players while returning just three starters. But it’s still Florida, and there’s talent to burn. The secondary, which was excellent last season, will need some big contributions from sophomore Matt Elam, a former super-recruit that has star potential. Ronald Powell is another rising star from Elam’s class, and will take over a hybrid LB-DL position that the Gators call “Buck.” At linebacker, Jelani Jenkins was the team’s second-leading tackler a year ago with 76 stops. He should challenge for first-team all-conference honors in just his sophomore year. The Gator defenders will have to grow up quickly in order to help out an offense that might experience more growing pains in 2011.

GEORGIA Head Coach: Mark Richt

Off Coord: Mike Bobo

2010 Record: 6-7 (3-5)

Founded: 1785

Athens, GA.

OFFENSE: The ice is getting thin for head coach Mark

Richt, who needs a big year to win back the Georgia faithful. He pulled in a stellar recruiting class that fans have dubbed “The Dream Team.” The marquee member of that group is RB Isaiah Crowell, who will have to be an impact player right away. The situation at running back is precarious, as leading rushers Caleb King and Washaun Ealey both left the team because of ongoing discipline issues. Georgia is still deep and talented at receiver despite the early departure of A.J. Green, with junior Tavarres King ready for a leading role and TE Orson Charles developing as a weapon. The surest bet on offense will be redshirt sophomore QB Aaron Murray, who threw for over 3,000 yards last season and tossed 24 TDs to just 8 INTs in his first year as starter. He will only get better. UGA also sports perhaps the best special teams duo in the nation in P Drew Butler and K Blair Walsh, and Branden Smith and Brandon Boykin are killer return men.

DEFENSE: The Dawgs should be better in Todd Gran-

tham’s second year of teaching the 3-4 defense. One main reason for improvement will be NG John Jenkins, a top-flight prospect UGA landed out of JuCo. DeAngelo Tyson and the massive Kwame Geathers (350 pounds) will be regulars in the DL rotation. The linebacking corps lost its top three tacklers from a year ago, leaving the door open for rotation player Christian Robinson to get starting snaps at one of the inside positions. True freshman Ray Drew and sophomore Alex Ogletree, who was moved from safety, also will be contributors. The secondary was prone to giving up big plays but returns almost everyone. Brandon Boykin is the best cover corner of the lot, and Bacarri Rambo continues to improve at safety. Despite some key losses, if the young talents can get the scheme down quickly, the Dawgs could have a formidable unit. 2011 SCHEDULE Sep 3  Boise St.  Sep 10  South Carolina Sep 17  Coastal Carolina  Sep 24  @Mississippi  Oct 1  Mississippi St.  Oct 8  @Tennessee  Oct 15  @Vanderbilt  Oct 29  Florida Nov 5  New Mexico St.  Nov 12  Auburn  Nov 19  Kentucky  Nov 26  @Georgia Tech

NEWCOMERS RB Isaiah Crowell, 5-11, 210 – With all the attrition at RB, he’ll need to be the man. OLB Ray Drew, 6-5, 243 – Played DE in HS, but will most likely provide pass rush at LB. DT John Jenkins, 64, 340 JuCo transfer will start immediately for the Dawgs.

Head Coach: Joker Phillips 2010 Record: 6-7 (2-6)

Off Coord: Randy Sanders

Lexington, Kentucky

Founded: 1865

OFFENSE: Head coach Joker Phillips kept the Wild-

cats’ bowl streak alive with their fifth straight postseason game, but Kentucky experienced massive turnover on the offensive side of the ball. Gone are QB Mike Hartline, leading rusher Derrick Locke and the explosive Randall Cobb at receiver/kick returner. There are some nice young talents on the roster, but the learning process could be tough on the win-loss total. In line to succeed Hartline is junior Morgan Newton, a junior with nine career starts. At running back, sophomore Raymond Sanders should be the main man; he ran for 254 yards last season but will have an even bigger role after the transfer of third leading rusher Donald Russell. At receiver, La’Rod King (478 yards receiving last year) and Matt Roark have the makings of a dynamic duo. The offensive line should be strong with five highly experienced players returning. The overall talent is there to replace the departed skill players, but OC Randy Sanders has some work ahead of him.

DEFENSE: Rick Minter comes in as defensive co-

ordinator and will play around with multiple looks. His back seven will be the strength of the Wildcats defense, as six of last year’s starters return at those spots. The defensive line, however, will likely continue to struggle. At linebacker, Danny Trevathan could be the best defensive player most college football fans have never heard of; he put up 144 total tackles last season with 16 tackles for loss. The other star on defense is SS Winston Guy, a heavy hitter who is great in coverage as well. CB Randall Burden complements him nicely on the outside. But the bulk of the defensive problems stemmed from an inability to stop all those great SEC running backs. To have a chance against the likes of Marcus Lattimore, players like Mark Crawford and Luke McDermott will have to step up in the middle.

SOUTH CAROLINA Head Coach: Steve Spurrier

Off Coord: Steve Spurrier

2010 Record: 9-5 (5-3)

Founded: 1801

Columbia, S.C.

OFFENSE: The Gamecocks made a big leap forward

by winning the East Division for the first time in school history, but lost the last two games of the season to Auburn and Florida State. Stephen Garcia has survived another tumultuous offseason in which head coach Steve Spurrier was ever so close to dismissing him from the squad and turning to true sophomore Connor Shaw, who played in nine games last fall. But Garcia is back as the starter, and will look to have a big senior season with Alshon Jeffery and Tori Gurley to throw the ball to. Jeffery might be the top receiver in the country heading into his junior year, as he’s tall, well-built, and blessed with great hands. He racked up an impressive 1,517 yards receiving last season, and Gurley is a nice complement. RB Marcus Lattimore was a freshman sensation in 2010, rushing for 1,197 yards and adding 412 more through the air. The offense should be explosive this fall.

DEFENSE: Newcomer Jadeveon Clowney has created

a buzz in Columbia. Watch his high school film, and you’ll know why. The nation’s top recruit will get a bunch of snaps right away at defensive end and the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder will try to continue terrorizing opposing quarterbacks. His teammates on the line, including returning starters Devin Taylor at end and Travian Robertson at tackle, will make up one of the best defensive lines in the country. The linebacking corps has been beset by injuries in recent years, but Shaq Wilson will be back and healthy after missing time last year with a hamstring issue. DeVonte Holloman moves from safety to the Spur linebacker position, and should thrive there. The secondary is the big question; the Gamecocks gave up 23 TD passes a year ago and were frequently out of position. CB Stephen Gilmore could make a big leap in development as a junior, however. 2011 SCHEDULE

TENNESSEE Head Coach: Derek Dooley

Off Coord: Jim Chaney

2010 Record: 6-7 (3-5)

Founded: 1794

Knoxville, Tenn.

OFFENSE: Derek Dooley did a decent job in his first

year as head coach, a year in which there weren’t many expectations from Volunteer fans. Dooley platooned true freshman Tyler Bray and junior Matt Simms at quarterback last season, with each getting about the same amount of attempts and combining for over 3,300 passing yards. It’s a lot more clear cut this time around. Coming out of spring, Bray was the apparent starter and will go to work with a potentially explosive set of wide receivers. Justin Hunter and Da’Rick Rogers are two talented sophomores that can take it to the house. At running back, Tauren Poole is a known quantity with 1,034 yards and backup Rajion Neal is capable. The offensive line was young last season but has a lot of talent; look for tackles Ja’Wuan James and Dallas Thomas to be an excellent combination as bookends. The Volunteers have an impressive set of skill players across the board, and with another year of experience, could be outstanding.

DEFENSE: There were issues on defense last season,

and question marks remain. DT Malik Jackson, however, is a tough senior who will bring the effort on every play. He’s not huge at just 270 pounds, but he’s able to get after the quarterback with team-leading sack (5) and tackle for loss (11) totals. Junior college recruit Maurice Coach joins him on the inside, but the rest of the defensive line personnel needs to find their roles. The linebackers are led by junior Herman Lathers, who totaled 75 tackles last season, but he will similarly need help from some new contributors and backups stepping into larger roles. In the secondary, Janzen Jackson’s return to the program is huge after the junior originally left earlier in the year due to personal reasons. He has all-SEC potential at free safety, and his counterpart at strong safety, Brent Brewer, is ready to blossom in his sophomore year. 2011 SCHEDULE Sep 3  Montana  Sep 10  Cincinnati Sep 17  @Florida  Oct 1  Buffalo  Oct 8  Georgia  Oct 15  LSU  Oct 22  @Alabama  Oct 29  South Carolina  Nov 5  M. VANDERBILT Head Coach: Tony Franklin 2010 Record: 2-10 (1-7)

Off Coord: John Donovan

Nashville, Tenn.

Founded: 1873

OFFENSE: Tony Franklin takes over after a rough

2010 season with interim head coach Robbie Caldwell. After a long period of competitiveness in the SEC highlighted by a 7-6 record in 2008, the Commodores have slipped to back-to-back two-win seasons. Last season, Vandy wasn’t even close to its superior conference brethren, scoring an anemic 16.9 points per game. QB Larry Smith has to be better in his senior season if the ‘Dores want to improve offensive production. He has completed less than 50 percent of his passes in both of his years as starter. Udom Udoh is the top wide receiver as a senior, but TE Brandon Barden was the top yardage man with 425 yards receiving. All five starters return on the offensive line, which needs to improve by leaps and bounds in order to approach respectability after giving up 35 sacks last season. The running back situation is better, with leading rusher Warren Norman back full speed from a wrist injury suffered during the Florida game.

DEFENSE: Vandy will have a handful of excel-

lent athletes on defense, but will still be undersized against conference competition. The ‘Dores return two potential all-SEC performers in the secondary in CB Casey Hayward and S Sean Richardson. Hayward had a big year with six interceptions, but the rest of the unit could be better when the ball is in the air. At linebacker, senior Chris Marve is a tackling machine in the middle, but is the only sure thing among that group. Marve is hoping that the defensive line can make strides in the offseason. The DL has a ton of experience at three of the four positions, and sophomore Walker May is a new starter with great pass rushing potential. For the Commodores, staying healthy will be key in order to have any chance of matching up with SEC offenses.

ALABAMA Head Coach: Nick Saban

Off Coord: Jim McElwain

2010 Record: 10-3 (5-3)

Founded: 1831

Tuscaloosa, Ala.

OFFENSE: The Crimson Tide took a step back after a

dominant 2009 in which they won a national title. Gone is rock-solid signal caller Greg McElroy, who turned into more than a caretaker for the Alabama offense and became somewhat of a playmaker. A.J. McCarron has game snaps under his belt, but the athletic and dynamic redshirt freshman Phillip Sims could have something to say about the quarterback race. Whoever starts for the Tide will have another fantastic backfield to work with, as RB Trent Richardson looks poised to make the most of his starting turn. Richardson gained 700 yards last season while playing second fiddle to the departed Mark Ingram, and backup Eddie Lacy is another star in waiting. Julio Jones was a rare talent at wide receiver, but the veteran combination of Darius Hanks and Marquis Maze should give Alabama some weapons. The OL, which could become a fantastic unit, had to deal with the death of probable starter Aaron Douglas at left tackle during the offseason.

DEFENSE: The Crimson Tide defense in 2011 will

again be a killer unit with NFL prospects at almost every starting spot. The secondary could be the best in the country. Mark Barron is perhaps the top strong safety in college football, and Dre Kirkpatrick is becoming one of the top corners. Dee Milliner shined last year as a true freshman and will lock down the other corner spot. If the secondary is the top unit on the defense, the linebackers aren’t far behind. Dont’a Hightower is a huge middle backer at 260 pounds, and will be surrounded by outstanding physical talents in Jerrell Harris and C.J. Mosley. Courtney Upshaw is back for his senior year and returns seven sacks from the linebacker/defensive line position he plays, called the Jack. The defensive line loses stud Marcell Dareus to the first round of the draft, but NG Josh Chapman is back as the starter. 2011 SCHEDULE Sep 3  Kent St.  Sep 10  @Penn St.  Sep 17  North Texas  Sep 24  Arkansas  Oct 1  @Florida  Oct 8  Vanderbilt  Oct 15  @Mississippi  Oct 22  Tennessee  Nov 5  LSU  Nov 12  @Mississippi St.  Nov 19  Georgia Southern  Nov 26  @Auburn

ARKANSAS Head Coach: Bobby Petrino

Off Coord: Garrick McGee

2010 Record: 10-3 (6-2)

Founded: 1871

Fayetteville, Ark

OFFENSE: The Razorbacks are yet another potential

10-game winner in the SEC West even without cannonarmed QB Ryan Mallett, who left early for the league. Mallett threw for nearly 4,000 yards last season, but new starter Tyler Wilson might finish with similar numbers. He impressed against Auburn while Mallett was injured, throwing for 332 yards in a shootout loss. The 6-foot-3 junior will benefit from a great scheme and a wealth of surrounding talent at the skill positions, which are second to none in the conference, and maybe the country. It starts at wide receiver, where Greg Childs should be back from a knee injury. Joe Adams led the team with 813 yards receiving, and Jarius Wright is a deep-ball threat. Junior Cobi Hamilton is maybe the best fourth receiver in the land. RB Knile Davis rushed for 1,322 yards last year but broke his ankle and could be out for the season. Ronnie Wingo is dynamic and will have to fill some big shoes. The O-line might take a step back, but the Razorbacks will be as potent as anyone on offense.

DEFENSE: Arkansas has gotten better and better

in this area in the last few years as the overall talent level has risen. Now, with seven starters returning from a solid defense, this side of the ball is looking to win as much respect as the much-hyped offense. The defense got after opposing quarterbacks last season, and DEs Jake Bequette (8.5 sacks) and Tenarius Wright will continue that trend. The tackles are also going to be solid with D.D. Jones and Byran Jones looking to improve even more. MLB Jerry Franklin was the stopper in the middle of the linebackers with 100 total tackles, tops on the team; he’s a captain who brings excellent leadership as a senior. There is a good rotation in the secondary, and it starts with FS Tramain Thomas, a big hitter who snagged 4 INTs last year.

AUBURN Head Coach: Gene Chizik

Off Coord: Gus Malzahn

2010 Record: 14-0 (8-0)

Founded: 1856

Auburn, Ala.

OFFENSE: Everything came together perfectly in the

Tigers’ national championship season, as Cam Newton was the best player in college football from the beginning. Newton left to become the top overall draft pick this spring, so head coach Gene Chizik and mad scientist OC Gus Malzahn will be looking for a new leader in the huddle. Only two starters return on offense, meaning the Tigers will likely see a precipitous drop in production from 41.2 points per game. Junior Barrett Trotter will fight it out with sophomore Clint Moseley for the QB job, with topflight true freshman Kiehl Frazier likely waiting it out on the sideline for the time being. RBs Michael Dyer and Onterrio McCalebb provide a superb one-two punch in the backfield; Dyer rushed for 1,043 yards last season, including 143 in the BCS title game. Last year’s third receiver Emory Blake will have to step up, and TE Philip Lutzenkirchen will certainly increase his 15 receptions from last year. The line will be somewhat thin this season after heavy losses.

DEFENSE: Like the offense, only a few starters

return from the title team. The Tigers lose seven of their top eight tacklers from a year ago. On the line, Nosa Eguae got starting snaps last season at DE and managed 3.5 sacks in a complementary role to monster DT Nick Fairley, who also left early for NFL riches. The rest of the defensive line is fairly inexperienced but highly recruited; DT Jeff Whitaker might be able to step in and replace at least some of Fairley’s production. LB Darren Bates put up 48 tackles last season in his sophomore year. Now, much more will be expected of him. Neiko Thorpe is a returning starter at cornerback, but he will move to safety. T’Sharvan Bell is an emerging playmaker at cornerback. The defense must deal with a large number of freshmen in the two-deep this fall.

OT Christian Westerman, 6-5, 285 – The line lost a lot, leaving the door open at either tackle spot. QB Kiehl Frazier, 6-3, 210 – Threw for 42 TDs and ran for 22 more as a senior. S Erique Florence, 6-2, 190 – A big hitter who chose AU in a close instate bidding war.

LSU Head Coach: Les Miles

2010 Record: 11-2 (6-2) Baton Rouge, La.

Off Coord: Greg Studrawa Founded: 1860

OFFENSE: With the collection of talent in Baton Rouge,

LSU could be in the national title hunt. Tiger fans were (amazingly) a bit frustrated after two seasons of four and five losses, but Les Miles delivered with an 11-win campaign in 2010. QB Jordan Jefferson has been maddeningly inconsistent over his career; he’s big and can run and throw, but accuracy and decision-making has been spotty as he threw 10 picks to 7 TDs last season. Jarrett Lee has served as sometime starter for his first three years at LSU, but the intriguing new name is Zach Mettenberger, who joins the Tigers after getting dismissed from Georgia two years ago. He’s a massive pocket passer with a rocket arm, and could get playing time if Jefferson continues to flounder. Junior WR Rueben Randle could be ready to explode this year, but RB Stevan Ridley (1,147 yards rushing) declared for the draft. Spencer Ware, however, will be ready to take the bulk of the carries. The offensive line should be outstanding with four starters back.

DEFENSE: The Tigers will be nasty on defense once

again, with all the speed, size and willingness to hit we’ve come to expect from them. You don’t just replace CB Patrick Peterson, who was drafted No. 5 overall, but the secondary will again be fantastic. CB Morris Claiborne is the new rock star on the outside, and returns 5 interceptions while playing opposite Peterson. His new running mate at starter, Tyrann Mathieu, is just sophomore but is already one of the best in the conference. The safeties are less proven, but nearly as talented. At linebacker, Ryan Baker is the leading returning tackler with 87 stops but loses star in the middle Kelvin Sheppard. Sophomore Kevin Minter, however, is a big, physical run stuffer who should step in nicely. There are a lot of snaps at defensive tackle to replace, but the talent on the line is again outstanding.

MISSISSIPPI Head Coach: Houston Nutt 2010 Record: 4-8 (1-7)

Oxford, Miss.

Off Coord: David Lee Founded: 1848

OFFENSE:After a strong start at Ole Miss with back-

to-back nine win seasons to open his tenure in Oxford, Houston Nutt’s team backslid last year with a 4-8 campaign. QB Jeremiah Masoli was a one-year rental after leaving Oregon, and now there’s a three-quarterback race to decide the starting job now that Nathan Stanley, one of the favorites, decided to transfer to Southeastern Louisiana. Randall Mackey is a junior college transfer with arm strength and running ability; Zach Stoudt is a 6-foot-4 JuCo transfer and a pure passer; and Barry Brunetti is a West Virginia transfer with good accuracy and mobility. At running back, Brandon Bolden is a 5-foot-11, 225-pound battering ram that picked up 14 rushing TDs last year; he also is effective in the passing game. Enrique Davis and Jeff Scott are two SEC-quality backups. Big questions remain at wide receiver, which needs to up its production drastically from last season. The offensive line could carry this team in the running game this fall.

DEFENSE: The lack of defense was killer last sea-

son for the Rebels, who gave up 35.2 points per game (including four games allowing over 40). The ‘D’ was what allowed such things to happen as the 49-48 overtime loss to FCS Jacksonville State in the home opener, and only three starters return this fall. Kentrell Lockett needs to come back healthy for his sixth year of eligibility after tearing an ACL early last season. Lockett totaled five sacks and 10 tackles for loss in 2009. The linebacking crew has taken some hits in the offseason. OLB Joel Kight will rack up the tackles in his second year starting, but D.T. Shackelford sustained a season-ending knee injury in the spring and his likely replacement, Clarence Jackson, was dismissed from the team. The secondary must improve after getting ripped apart by SEC passing offenses in 2010. 2011 SCHEDULE

MISSISSIPPI STATE Head Coach: Dan Mullen 2010 Record: 9-4 (4-4)

Off Coord: Les Koenning

Starkville, Miss.

Founded: 1878

OFFENSE: Dan Mullen has worked wonders in

Starkville since taking the job three years ago. Year by year he’s helped usher the offense along, and this year he’s counting on quarterback Chris Relf to become special in his senior season. Relf has become a steady signal caller for the Bulldogs, throwing for nearly a 60 percent completion rate last season while still splitting time with Tyler Russell. Relf should be the main man this year. Relf didn’t have to throw it all over the field last season, as MSU excelled in the running game by averaging 215 yards on the ground per contest. Vick Ballard is back after rushing for 968 yards and 19 scores a year ago, and primary backup LaDarius Perkins is starter quality. There is a big group of receivers ready to contribute, with Chad Bumphis back as the leader of the unit. Special teams will be a strength, with accurate kicker Derek DePasquale back as a senior.

DEFENSE: Geoff Collins comes in from Florida International as co-defensive coordinator along with Chris Wilson after the departure of Manny Diaz to Texas. The Bulldogs showed some nice improvement on defense last season, but lose a lot of experience at linebacker in the summer. All three starters are gone from last year’s squad, but three-year starter for Clemson, Brandon Maye, will step in and start in the middle after being granted an immediate post-grad transfer. DT Fletcher Cox produced both in the middle and as an end last year, and is versatile enough to be switched around with different defensive looks. Sean Ferguson will be the main pass rusher off the edge. In the secondary, SS Charles Mitchell is a hard hitter and talented run stopper who finished with 93 total tackles a year ago. The secondary as a whole could tighten up a bit against opposing quarterbacks, but Bulldog fans have to like the experience level. 2011 SCHEDULE Sep 1  @Memphis  Sep 10  @Auburn  Sep 15  LSU Sep 24  Louisiana Tech  Oct 1  @Georgia  Oct 8  @UAB Oct 15  South Carolina  Oct 29  @Kentucky  Nov 5  Tennessee-Martin  Nov 12  Alabama  Nov 19  @Arkansas  Nov 26  Mississippi

NEWCOMERS DT P.J. Jones, 6-2, 275 – Top DT prospect should keep adding weight. S Darion Arrington, 6-1, 210 – Made 121 tackles last year; Mississippi’s top DB. MLB Brandon Maye, 6-2, 235 – Graduated from Clemson and was granted ability to play immediately; started 33 games for CU.

The Trucks to Drive for Economy and Performance

Aisin six-speed automatic transmission. Standard on every 2011 Isuzu N-Series truck is an Aisin heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission with PTO capability, engineered to work with the Isuzu diesel engine to achieve optimal performance and economy. New for 2011, the lock-up torque converter operates in power take-off (PTO) mode. Under specifically determined engine conditions, when PTO mode is selected, the torque converter will lock up automatically to eliminate slip and deliver more power and better speed control for demanding power take-off applications.

In addition to the Aisin six-speed automatic, the proven Isuzu MZZ fully synchronized six-speed manual transmission with overdrive is optional in NPR-HD, NQR and NRR Standard Cab models. More capability to haul your biggest loads. The 2011 Isuzu NRR boasts a front axle crafted of higher-strength material along with increased-capacity steering gear to achieve a front GAWR of 7,275 lbs.—a 445-lb. improvement over its predecessor, for more loading flexibility and improved productivity.
