Leading the concept creation and design processes of a new system for urban mobility together with business designers, UX designers, engineers and customers at Volvo CampX. The result includes a range of patent-able technical innovations, design of vehicle interior and vehicle exterior, business model and proposals of a holistic user experience for end users, logistic companies and fleet operators. I kick-start and maintain radical innovative thinking within project teams. Facilitate dialogue between business and

technical stakeholders in the project, provide strategic guidance and inspiration. CampX is a dynamic start-up environment unique to Volvo. It is a global innovation arena for technology and business transformation, a creative hub where Volvo co-creates future transport solutions by partnering Volvo Group experts with customers, start-ups, suppliers, academia and authorities.

Neo-G Electronic Guitar Client- Neocraft 2009

MANUFACTURE The Neo-G was an extremely ambitious project that employed fresh thinking to how an electric guitar should be made, and how it should be played. During the design of the Neo-G virtually every component of the guitar was re-thought and designed in a completely new manner that has been never previously attempted. New manufacturing technologies were developed for the frets, bridge and neck of the guitar.

The body of the guitar was designed for massproduction through low-pressure plastic injection, something that has not been previously attempted along the entire history of this musical instrument. In fact virtually every component of the Neo-G departs from the traditional way of guitar making, while retaining all the positive qualities of an electric guitar.

METHODOLOGY

REAL PEOPLE, REAL PROBLEMS True research is done in the field, not on Google Documentation of research for a project with the Swedsih Postal Service. 90 hours spent in the field, over 15 interviews with post personnel, sorters, terminal managers.

Interview with Helena Bogseth, Asthma Nurse at Dragonen Health Center

“THE MEDICINE WE HAVE TODAY FOR ASTHMA IS GOOD. IF YOU TAKE YOUR MEDICINE REGULARLY THEN YOU SHOULD NEVER FEEL THAT YOU HAVE ASTHMA. YOU CAN BE LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE AND DO THE EXACT SAME THINGS EVERYBODY ELSE DOES.”

“CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS ARE THE MOST PROBLEMATIC GROUPS IN TERMS MEDICATION ADHERENCE. YOUNG PATIENTS OFTEN STOP TAKING THE MEDICATION. THESE PEOPLE USUALLY COME BACK TO CLINICS AT AGES OF 19 AND REQUEST TO CONTINUE TREATMENT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT LONG TERM NEGLECT CAN SOMETIMES LEAD TO PERMANENT DAMAGE, WHICH WILL BE HARDER TO TREAT LATER ON”

Interview with representatives from Swedish Asthma and Allergy Foundation

“ASTHMA CAUSES US TO LEAD A RESTRICTED LIFESTYLE. WE CAN NOT TRAVEL BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT, TAKE SWIMMING LESSONS OR EVEN GET INTO CERTAIN SHOPPING MALLS BECAUSE OF PRESENCE OF ALLERGENS AND STRONG SCENTS.” “IN SCHOOLS AN ASTHMATIC CHILD IS OFTEN TREATED AS THE PROBLEM. OTHER CHILDREN AND SOMETIMES EVEN PARENTS CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SHOULD THEY CHANGE THEIR LIFE STYLES BECAUSE OF ANOTHER CHILD’S DISABILITY.”

IDENTIFYING USER PAIN POINTS

“We are so close to houses, i am really afraid of running over a kid”

There is no glamour in the postman’s work, but I still take pride in it

“I can’t see a thing when I am backing up”

MIKAEL WAERN

“I get in and out of the car hundreds of times each day”

Postman, 19 years of experience

“It’s really uncomfortable to reach across the handlebars to get the mail.”

“Man, you have NO IDEA what it’s like to ride a moped with bare hands in -15 DEGREES!”

MARTIN EIRELL Postman, 11 years of experience

“OUCH!”

“WE RIDE EVERY DAY, REGARDLESS OF WEATHER. THE MAIL NEVER STOPS”

“It’s quicker to deliver from the vehicle, but

bend like crazy”

you have to

CREATIVE WORKSHOPS Facilitating cross-functional workshops with diverse stakeholders allows us to look at the problem from many different prespectives.

• Test is non invasive • High Accuracy

TOOLS FOR BRAND AND USER ANALYSIS Analytical techniques were applied to strategically examine the future of the Aerocrine brand and the market it will operate in. In parallel, I analyzed the unique properties of the target user group to understand how the product can assist in the management of their asthma condition.

MOCKUP, TEST, IMPROVE The design process of the HB200S presented complex engineering and ergonomic challenges which were addressed by creating multiple physical models and rigorous testing. Our team delivered a comprehensive design package, from concept design through mockups to detailed design for manufacturing, CMF, graphics and packaging.

FORM EXPLORATION At an early stage in the project different functional and shape concepts were rapidly produced using sketching and digital imaging with concepts presented to the client to spark a discussion on the proposed design direction.
