Risale al 1878 l‘insediamento della prima fabbrica cadorina per la produzione di occhiali, su iniziativa dei fratelli Frescura, due artigiani di Calalzo, che si legano in società con l’arrotino ed esperto di meccanica Giovanni Lozza. Da quel primo nucleo in località Molinà di Calalzo si svilupperà più tardi la Safilo. Già nel 1885 la fabbrica produce più di cinquecento occhiali al giorno, che vengono esportati in Oriente, in Africa e in Europa. Da allora, grazie allo straordinario sviluppo di capacità umane e risorse tecnologiche, il ruolo di questo distretto industriale dell’occhiale crebbe incessantemente sino a raggiungere e mantenere un quota fino al 70% dell’intera produzione mondiale di occhiali. The very first plant for industrial eyewear production in the Cadore Valley is realized in 1878 thanks to the initiative of the brothers Frescura, two artisans from Calalzo, who associated themselves with the grinder and expert in mechanics Giovanni Lozza. The company Safilo is born later on from this first factory in Molinà di Calalzo. During the year 1885 the factory already produced more than 500 frames a day, which were exported to the Orient, Africa and Europe. Since then thanks to an extraordinary development of human knowledge and technological resources, the role of this industrial district for eyewear production has grown systematically until it reached a share of 70% of the entire world’s production of eyewear. This share of production is still maintained today.

It’s new location – inaugurated in the year 2007 – is a modern building made of steel and glass, the reconstruction work done by the Studio Galli, more than 4.000 exibits dating frome the XV century up to modern days await the visitors accompanying them on a journey through the history of eyewear in the world and in the Cadore Valley.

In the year 2012 Giovanni Sommavilla and Umberto Valentini, both driven by their long personal experience in the area of production and commercialisation of spectacle frames, gave birth to the brand Eblock, a mono-concept collection that is based on the revolutionary and patent lens locking system called Easy Block. The success is immediate: the exquisite design, the quality of the product, the fast delivery, the reliability and competence of the customer care are only some of the brand’s values that capture and convince the customers. Moreover, the vast choice of different models and the ability to renew the product continuously while maintaining its distinctive identity complete the picture of this success story. In ogni montatura Eblock design, materiale e colore si fondono per dare vita ad occhiali caratterizzati da una tecnologia unica e riconoscibile nel blocchetto Easy Block, elemento distintivo del brand. Le montature possono essere completamente in metallo (collezioni Original e Side) oppure in metallo abbinato all’acetato (collezione B-Side). Nel primo caso gli occhiali sono ricavati da lastre di acciaio tagliate con una precisione millimetrica. Oltre a essere anallergico, l’acciaio risulta particolarmente leggero e permette una colorazione in procedimento galvanico che assicura massima tenuta e durabilità della finitura. I modelli della collezione B-Side, invece, combinano l’acciaio con l’acetato di Mazzucchelli: le lastre di acetato vengono fresate dal pieno, consentendo così un perfetto accoppiamento con la montatura in acciaio. L’unione dei due materiali ne esalta le specifiche peculiarità materiche, conferendo a ogni modello un effetto unico e inimitabile. Le collezioni possono essere disponibili in due versioni: One (con montaggio a bisello negativo della lente) oppure Circle (con montaggio a bisello tradizionale, adatto anche a lenti in CR di serie).
Design, colour and engaged materials melt together in every single EBlock frame giving birth to a collection of spectacle frames that are characterized by their unique technology and their recognizable Easy Block cube, the distinctive element of the brand. Eblock frames – both available for men and women – can be made completely out of metal (collections Original and Side) or out of a combination of metal and acetate (B-Side collection). In the first case the frames are cut out of metal plates with millimetric precision which is essential for the perfect functioning of the locking system Easy Block. A part from being non-allergic, the engaged metal is particularly light weight and allows colouring by electroplated coating which guaranties maximum duration and resistance of the finishing. The frames of the B-Side collection combine steel with Mazzucchellian acetate instead. The acetate part of the frame is milled out of whole acetate plates to make sure that it fits perfectly onto the steel frame. The union of the two materials emphasizes the specific peculiarities of each material and donates a unique and inimitable effect to each model. The collections can be available in two versions: One (mounting rimless lenses) or Circle (mounting traditional lenses, even standard CR lenses.

Easy Block è l’esclusivo sistema di chiusura che rende semplice e sicuro il fissaggio delle lenti. Con Easy Block l’ottico può fissare la lente con una tensione programmata, in modo di non correre il rischio di danneggiarla, né in fase di montaggio, né in caso di sollecitazioni da parte dell’utilizzatore. La sostituzione delle lenti avviene grazie all’utilizzo dell’apposita chiavetta, abbinata ad un distanziatore di precisione, che fissa il blocchetto al posto della vite e regola la chiusura del cerchio dell’occhiale. Easy Block is a unique, technologically advanced locking system that makes the process of fastening lenses easy and safe. The optician can in fact secure the lenses with a programmed tension that will not damage it, nor in the assembly phase nor in the case of intense use by the user. Lenses can only be replaced thanks to the use of a special key, at the disposal of the optician, combined with a precision metallic spacer, that locks the block (instead of a screw) and adjusts the closing of the eye rim.

As the name already says this is first EBlock frame to be launched on the market. The Easy Block cube is placed on the extremities of the front piece and colour coordinated with the colour of the temples in order to underline the connection between the constructional shape of the frame and the technology of the product. This collection has become an icon in the panorama of EBlock because of its eternal design and its colour palette of vivid tonalities. In the Side collection the Easy Block cube is moved onto the temples: a technical yet stylistic solution that allows for easing the design of the front piece while maintaining the distinctive element of the brand. The collection consists of metal frames, light and resistant, which play with contrasting colour finishes between the inside and the outside. They are often presented in two-coloured versions, but in tonalities that are softer and more natural as the ones seen in the Original collection. These frames are available in new colour schemes variations in gold and copper - and textures. In combination with even more sophisticated frame shapes, colours and forms are elevating the engaged metal. The collection Side is available in three versions: One, Circle and Wire (rimless).

In order to obtain the form of a soldered metal eye rim it was necessary to calibrate it by using mobile moulds. The eye rim had to be “rounded”, meaning that it had to be moulded into a slightly curved shape. This was achieved by placing it between two moulds and to have it pressed into the right shape ca. 1950.

Il metallo si unisce al pregiato acetato Mazzucchelli per dare vita a questa collezione di occhiali in cui l’esclusivo blocchetto Easy Block viene interpretato attraverso nuovi ed eleganti accoppiamenti di materiale. L’acetato è utilizzato sull’intero frontale o solo in corrispondenza del ciliare per uno stile anni ’80. Palette cromatiche rinnovate, sorprendenti texture ottiche all’interno delle aste e ponti in acciaio e ottone danno ulteriore personalità a queste preziose montature. Eblock combines a top quality Mazzucchellian acetate frame with a metal one to give birth to an optical frame collection in which the exclusive Easy Block locking system presents itself in new and elegant material combinations. The acetate is used either on the complete front piece or on just the top rim for a revival of the style of the 80ies. Sophisticated colour schemes come together in models with a bridge made out of steel or brass and provide these precious frames with an even more expressive personality.
