How Celebrities Have Mobilized to Fight the Coronavirus Pandemic In a time of crisis like the one we’re currently living through, people tend to reveal their truest selves. This also applies to celebrities, many of whom are stepping up and putting their privilege to good use, assisting those who have had their health and livelihoods impacted by COVID-19. Below, see how Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Oprah Winfrey, and more are helping fight back against the global coronavirus pandemic that’s changed seemingly all of our lives.

Lady Gaga

In addition to curating a World Health Organization benefit concert scheduled for Saturday, April 18, the pop star has also worked with the Global Citizen organization to raise more than $35 million to buy protective equipment for health care workers.

Rihanna

The Clara Lionel Foundation, founded by Rihanna in 2012 and named in honor of her grandparents, donated $5 million to Direct Relief, Feeding America, the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, and other organizations fighting COVID-19.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Along with philanthropist Laurene Powell Jobs, DiCaprio helped launch America’s Food Fund, a charity created to help low-income families, the elderly, those facing job losses, and children who rely on school meals. America’s Food Fund had raised $12 million to assist those and other suffering communities by April 3.

Oprah Winfrey

The famed talk-show host has donated $10 million to coronavirus relief, including $1 million to America’s Food Fund. “I believe that America’s Food Fund will be a powerful way to make a difference for our neighbors in need,” Winfrey said on Instagram.

Dolly Parton

Although providing relief to those affected by COVID-19 is vital, one key to ending the disease itself is with a vaccine. That’s exactly what Dolly Parton, who has long been known for her philanthropy, donated $1 million toward last week.

Kylie Jenner

The founder of Kylie Cosmetics has donated $1 million to fund protective gear for Los Angeles hospital workers. Along with her mother, Kris, and cosmetics company Coty Inc., which bought a stake in Jenner’s beauty company last year, she will also divert resources to help produce hand sanitizer for hospitals. connect and let’s join the #watchparty together!

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Brownies

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Brownies are a delicious, chocolatey dessert recipe. If you like rich, chocolate brownies, then you will love these chocolate ganache strawberry covered brownies!

Ingredients: -

1 Brownie Mix (for an 8"x8" baking dish) 1 lb Strawberries, stems removed, cut in half Chocolate Ganache 1 1/2 cups Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips (or use part dark chocolate) 3/4 cup Heavy Cream (up to 1 cup if more is needed)

Preparation: 1. In an 8"x8" baking dish, prepare brownies according to package directions. Let them cool completely. 2. Remove the stems from the strawberries and cut them in half lengthwise. 3. Arrange the strawberries in a single layer on top of the brownie layer. 4. Prepare the Chocolate Ganache 5. In a microwave safe bowl, add the chocolate chips and the heavy cream. Microwave for 25 seconds. Then start stirring slowly. 6. Microwave again for 20 seconds. Stir again, for at least 20 seconds. The heat will keep melting the chocolate as you stir. It is important to heat the mixture gradually, and not to get it too hot! Stir, stir, stir! 7. If the chocolate chips are still chunky, microwave again for another 15 seconds. Then stir again. Repeat if necessary. Keep stirring until the ganache becomes smooth, and turns dark and shiny/glossy. Then it is ready.

Notes -

Pour the chocolate ganache over the strawberries evenly, covering all of them. Chill the brownies in the fridge for 20-30 minutes, or until ganache has set. It will not be solid, but will firm up. Slice and serve. These won't last more than a day as the berries release moisture that will make the brownies wet.

Bagira T. Your Private Artist When Bagira was first interviewed [2016] she was just 21 years old. She’s a Hungarian-Algerian born painter living and creating beautiful personalized paintings in Curaçao. Back in 2016, she quit her job to pursue what really makes her happy, painting. When this interiew was conducted, she had a clear vision about her future plans as a painter and we have excitedly seen her grow ever since. It was time to get in touch with her again. We wanted to know how she is doing personally and professionally. We guess you too right? Before you go to page 10 for her newest interview, first, get to know more about “Your Private Artist”.

How Go Weekly met Bagira

We met Bagira during a job interview here at the Go Weekly office. She had such a great personality. So, we really wanted her in our team. After offering her a contract, she declined because she decided that all she wanted to do for the rest of her life was painting. Even so, Go Weekly is glad to be part of her journey towards becoming who she is today.

Why Go Weekly

GO: Was the interview in Go Weekly your first interview ever? BT: Yes I think so, I don’t remember any other, but then it probably was the most memorable! GO: How was this experience? BT: I was super excited because, back then, I was only 21 years old and I had just started painting. GO: Did the interview mean something for you as an artist and a businesswoman? BT: Definitely! People recognized me and it also gave me a boost, made me feel appreciated! It was a very good way to jumpstart my business. People take you more seriously. GO: Would you recommend this to others and why? BT: Yes! Everybody knows and reads Go Weekly, and being on the cover is one of the greatest ways to be recognized in Curaçao. I am still very humbled by it and proud.

Her new normal

Q: How do you think this Covid-19 situation will impact you individually and the industry you are in as a whole? A: It already has impacted me and, as I always say, it is up to us to see how we will react to it. Having a positive mindset will lead to new experiences and ideas. I mostly work alone and barely have contact with people, but for the classes I give, it is definitely a challenge. That is why I am experimenting with new products and services to offer. We can learn anything we want and I have gone through a lot of moving, several times, to countries and cultures to know how to adapt to new situations. So, I can only look at this as a new chapter and I am excited to see the modern changes happening in Curaçao.

Bagira is a 24-year-old self-taught artist who was born in the Netherlands and raised in Hungary, Algeria, and Belgium. 5 years ago, she moved to Curaçao. She managed to create her business; she met her partner and created a beautiful family. She is an animal lover and a woman who is currently focused on being the best mother and partner she can be. Additionally, Bagira is currently exploring graphic art, and she is teaching painting classes that are mostly focused on portraits and murals. A few years ago, Bagira believed that she didn’t have a specific source of inspiration. Now, her 4-month-old son, Zion, is the main person who has been inspiring her “to create educative content”. Bagira has never experienced something as beautiful as motherhood before. “The moment I became a mom, my whole mindset changed; “it is not about ME anymore, anything I do, I think about how it will affect him, short term and long term”. “I love every single part of it”. Bagira believes that being "a parent is the most important job" because it concerns raising humans who, one day, will have an impact on someone else's life. So, she is always aiming to understand more about her being, her body, her baby, and her relationship.

Within a month, my baby was almost double the height and weight of an average baby, being exclusively breastfed”. “That is when I realized that if we don’t educate ourselves about these things, people will make us do things that are not necessarily good for our babies. This is when I decided to create a platform on social media where I can help parents get the information they need to make the right choices, @itsaparenthing. The more you know about something, the more confident you will be and it will be much easier to manage the changes in your life in a positive way! And sometimes, people just need to know that they are not alone”. Bagira does in-depth research to share the most interesting and helpful tips in English and Papiamentu. She creates all the illustrations herself. Additionally, she posts quotes, shares her baby’s development and she creates reviews and exercise videos for babies. According to Bagira, change is “the most important thing”. “We should all embrace change”, as nothing lasts forever. Her motto has always been: “it’s not about what happens to you, but what you do about it”. “I still live by this every day, and instead of blaming the things that happen, I use it to make a change for the better”.

“My definition of parenting is doing what is best for your child, which in my opinion starts during pregnancy”. Bagira has a page, @itsaparenthing, where she shares information, tips, and tricks about parenthood for both the moms and dads out there and anyone who is planning to have kids. What inspired her to start this page was when she was told by doctors, after having a C-section, that she couldn’t go home because her baby lost too much weight. “They told me that I have to give him formula and that I don’t have enough milk to feed him. As a new mom, hearing a doctor say, you did your best but it’s not good enough” is really heartbreaking. It feels like “you failed to do the first thing for your baby”. “After crying for hours, it hit me; I AM his mom, I want what’s best for him! And I insisted on continuing breastfeeding for 4 days at the hospital.
