POTE’S NOTES Well, this one will about do it for me! 2017 is winding to a close and 2018 is fast approaching. There are a lot of changes in the works for Moila in the very near future. Be sure to understand all of the rumors out there may not be true. As a matter of fact I haven’t heard any that are 100% accurate. If there are questions don’t be afraid to come out to a meeting and ask. I’m sure anything that comes from a Divan member will be accurate information. As the Holidays close in on us, remember what we do, the #1 reason for being a Shriner…. The Kids and our Hospitals. That’s what Shriners do….. I would like to thank everyone for their support, kindness, friendship, and prayers for Nancy. We are going through a bit of a tough time right now but we are going to beat this! And we probably couldn’t do it without your help. Thank you for everything, H2
We are just about to the end of another year. It’s been a good year for the Ole Tymers, and a good year for Moila Shriners. Thanks to our Potentate Ill. H Mark Crawford and his Lady Nancy, and all the Divan and Aides. Our monthly breakfasts at LePeeps are well attended. Everyone enjoys getting together for a relaxed breakfast and time to visit. The Unit gives thanks to our Director Bob Nichols who has been our Director for 7 years. Bob does a really good job (we think he enjoys it). He has agreed to take it for another year. We have elected officers for 2018: Bob Nichols Director, Wayne Nold Secretary/ Treasurer, Richard Woods Historian, and Ernie Frye Reporter. We welcome our new members, Doug Pohl and his Lady Margie, and Jerry Thornton and his Lady Ruth. We would welcome any Shriner with an antique vehicle to join our unit. A little history about our unit…. In 1972 Jerry Acord and 7 other Shriners got together and formed our unit—the Moila Ole Tymers Antique Auto Unit. Jerry was Director in 1974. Besides being one of the Charter Members he has been, and is very involved. We thank Jerry and the seven other Shriners for starting our unit. Of the eight charter members, Jerry is the only one left. Until Next time, Ernie Frye Reporter
NEW OPPORTUNITIES WITH CHANGES AT MOILA Make no mistake about one thing: Moila Shriners continued work to help Kids at Shriner’s Hospitals for Children will continue! It is true that a major operational change in our building and on our grounds is going to occur. But in this change, we will have real opportunity to improve our building and expand our fraternity. Did you notice I said “our building”? Despite all you may have heard, Moila Shriners still own the property at 701 N. Noyes Blvd. Our new tenant GreatLIFE KC will be managing our building and our golf course, while they add a fitness center on the second level. They also will be remodeling the areas we know as “Club Moila” and the “Tap Room”. Don’t worry, provisions have been made to secure spaces for Shrine related meetings. Shrine members will always be welcome in their own building. We may have to make adjustments, but we still have plenty of area in our building which we can use at no charge. Shriners will continue to receive the same privileges to use the pool and golf course and if a Shriner joins the Moila Country Club, they will receive a discounted rate. Having said all this I am reminded that over the years there have been many changes, but none of this magnitude or which have presented this kind of opportunity to make real, positive changes. My point in this article is to encourage each member to embrace this change and make it work for all of us. Ill. Dave Ingersoll Treasurer December2015 2017 February

LOH Check Presentation LEGION OF HONOR Greetings Nobles, We have had a rather busy schedule the last couple of months and are looking forward to the upcoming holiday season. We had a good turnout at the Children’s Halloween Party with Bill Couldry and myself manning our unit’s table. We will be having a table again this year at the Children’s Christmas Party in December--anyone wishing to assist with our table please join us, your help will be greatly appreciated. We held our annual election of officers at our October meeting and the following officers were elected: Commander Douglas Plowman, 1st Vice Commander John Hammer, 2nd Vice Commander Bill Couldry, Treasurer P.C. Kenny Miller, Adjutant P.C. Jerry Euler, and Quartermaster Russell Hollowell. Our November meeting will be an open meeting so that our families may be pres-
ent for the annual installation of officers which will be directly after dinner. Dinner is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. The officers elect are looking forward to serving you in the upcoming year and are planning on a good, fun, and productive year. We are planning on getting our unit back to a fun and active unit like it has been in the past, but we will need your active participation to be successful. To borrow the words from a former mentor of mine from my Blue Lodge “As Master of the Lodge there is not much you can do alone, but with the backing of the officers and members of your Lodge there isn’t much you can’t do.” I believe the same holds true for our unit as well as every unit and the Temple as a whole. I would like to take this time to encourage all LOH members to attend our meetings and take an active part in our unit. We truly look forward to seeing you there and look forward to suggestions you may have, please come out and join us. Lastly we will NOT be holding a meeting in December so that everyone may enjoy the Christmas holiday with their fam-

HOT SAND BUGS It seems winter has arrived and the Holidays are fast approaching. Bugs are being put away for the winter, projects are being held off for warmer times, and some slower months ahead. Sometimes it seems we need a break from all the parades, competition practice, and all the other activities that go along with warmer weather. But fear not! Cold weather brings out the good booze! Scotch and Bourbon replace the beer and we all sit in the shed under the heater, like Harvey Miller, bitching about the cold! Bring on the Bug Christmas Party!!! (Keep your good scotch away from Pee Wee) We have a new slate of officers for next year ready to lead us in our 50th year as the Moila Hot Sand Bugs. Shelby will be our Director, Mark Morgan will be our Captain, Charles Baskins will be our Reporter, and Mark Crawford will be our secretary/treasurer. Get ready for a celebration of 50 awesome years. Until next time, HSB Reporter , H2
