The champion market steer, a crossbred, belonged to Stetson Hodgen of Green City while Dalton Hoover of Tina had the reserve champion market steer, a Simmental. The supreme market heifer belonged to Claire Walker and Sadie Roy of Trenton had the reserve. Showmanship awards were presented to Dalton Hoover, 15 and over; Chase Simmons of Unionville, 11 to 14; and Aubrie Burton of Chilicothe, 8 to 10. HORSE SHOW Approximately 40 participants braved the hot weather Saturday for the annual NCM Fair Horse Show, held at the North Missouri Saddle Club grounds. After all events had been held, the high point winners were named, with Lily Rice named the winner in the 8 years and under division, while Sammie Jo Blanchard was the winner among those age nine to 12 and Cheyenne Blanchard was the winner in the 13- to 17-year division. Fine arts, horticulture, floriculture and Rock Barn judging results from the 2018 North Central Missouri Fair have been announced. FINE ARTS There were 91 entries in the fine arts show. A colored pencil drawing entered by Abigail O’Neal of Trenton won Best of Show. The People’s Choice Award went to Mark Davis of Trenton. Briefs... R-9 Open Houses

Students at the Rissler Elementary School and Trenton Middle School will get a chance to meet their teachers prior to the start of classes during open houses planned on Thursday, Aug. 16. Rissler will have its open house from 5 to 6 p.m. while the middle school open house will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. During both events, students and their parents/guardians are invited to stop in and visit with staff and administrators as well as bring in school supplies and other items that will be needed for the start of school on Tuesday, Aug. 21. The Trenton R-9 Preschool, located at Rissler School, will also hold an open house on the first day of classes (Aug. 21) from 5 to 6 p.m. Preschool classes begin on Thursday, Aug. 23.

Livestock Events Highlight Fair Schedule

The 2018 North Central Missouri Fair came to an end on Saturday with beef judging and a horse show among the events held. Earlier in the week, judging also took place for sheep, goats, dairy cattle, poultry and rabbits. PREMIUM SALE A total of $54,525 was raised during the premium sale held on Saturday night. There were 56 who bid on livestock belonging to 23 Grundy County youth. Those who had livestock for sale were allowed to keep the animals to show at future events. BEEF SHOW There were 73 head of beef exhibited at Saturday’s beef show at the North Central Missouri Fair, including five in the pee wee show and three in the bucket calf show. Blake Nelson of Platte City was the judge. The supreme champion female, an Angus, was exhibited by Jenna Reeter of Trenton, who also had the supreme champion market animal. The reserve champion female, a Foundation Simmental, was shown by Clayton Walker

Window Decorating

The Foundation Trust for Trenton High School will have its first-ever window decorating contest to commemorate alumni weekend. Graduating classes and school organizations, both past and present, are invited to participate, with cash prizes awarded to the first- and second-place winners. Participants must secure their own windows and displays must be in place by Friday evening, Aug. 31 for judging. Displays may be established even earlier in the week if the respective business will allow. The foundation is sponsoring the event in hopes of encouraging activity in Trenton business windows as well as recognizing the importance of the THS Alumni Association. The foundation hopes to make this an annual event. No specific criteria is suggested for window displays, which may feature memorabilia from the respective classes or special events that have occurred at THS. School organizations, past and present ,are also encouraged to participate. The contest is not limited to the classes observing special reunions this year, but any class or organization.

Sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s on Wednesday and Thursday. Lows will be in the mid-60s. The high last Thursday at the Government Weather Station at Trenton was 93, Friday’s high was 98, Saturday’s high was 93 and Sunday’s high was 100 and the low was 71. The high on Sunday at the Government Weather Station near Spickard was 93, the low was 72.
