Event Raises $5,000 For Oncology Program Around $5,000 was raised during the eighth annual Wright Run 5K/10 held on Saturday morning. “Cancer Awareness” was the theme of this year’s event, which will benefit the newlydeveloped Oncology Nurse Navigator Program at Wright Memorial Hospital. The program will center around an onstaff oncology nurse navigator, whose job will be to assist cancer patients throughout their entire cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery process as well as the clinical coordination of their care. Services will be free of charge to cancer patients using at least one cancerrelated serve at WMH. First-place winners in the 5K race were Jayden Stotts, 18 and under male, 24:54; Nora Guthrie, 18 and under female, 42.69; Brandon Albrech, 19 to 40 male, 23:07; Liane McClellan, 19 to 40 female, 30:11; Rod Cotton, 41 to 60 male, 35:25; Julie Simpson, 41 to 60 female, 24:33; Gary Schuett, 61 and over male, 60:04; and Joyce Schuett, 61 and over female, 62:00. The Economic Development Committee of the Trenton City Council will meet at 6 o’clock tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 8) at city hall. Items on the announced agenda include discussion of hotel/motel bed tax options, a TIF update and reports from North Central Missouri Development Alliance Director Micah Landes and Main Street Trenton Director Megan Derry.
R-6 Board Meeting Planned The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6 o’clock tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 8) in the school cafeteria. Items on the announced agenda include MSBA policy updates, approval of the procurement plan and code of conduct for the food service, a review of a board member application, surplus property, building projects and the superintendent’s report. An executive session for personnel and student matters is also scheduled.
Park Board Meeting Set The Trenton Park Board will hold its regular monthly meeting at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at city hall. Items on the announced agenda include a request from the Green Hills Recreation Association, the superintendent’s report and reports from the pool, grounds and facilities committees.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will conduct its annual Poosey Conservation Area fall tour on Sunday, Oct. 20. The tour will take place from noon to 4 p.m. The tour begins at Pike’s Lake, which can be reached off Route W and County Road 502. Visitors will be able to drive on roads not normally open to the public for vehicle traffic. Vehicles with high clearance are recommended. Smokey Bear is celebrating his 75th birthday anniversary and will be present during the afternoon for photos. Singers Sought For Choir The Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra will begin rehearsals on Tuesday evening, Oct. 22 at the Hodge Presbyterian Church. Rehearsals will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday in preparation for the winter concert, scheduled for Dec. 14. While all orchestra positions have been filled, the choir is seeking singers in all voices. Persons interested in joining the choir or wanting more information can contact choir director Linda Arnold at arnoldlaw@windstream.net. Buddy Hannaford is the conductor of the orchestra. Songs scheduled to be performed by the choir include “Here We Come A-Caroling”, “Linus & Lucy”, “O Come and Sing of Christmas” and “Glory Hallelujah” while the orchestra will perform “Three Noels”, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”, “All Is Calm” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” “When Love Crossed Over” and “Hallelujah Chorus” will be performed by both groups.
Bright Futures Breakfast Bright Futures Trenton will hold its annual volunteer appreciation breakfast on Friday, Oct. 25 in the Trenton High School gymnasium. Breakfast will be served at 6:45 a.m., with a program scheduled from 7 to 8 a.m. Individuals, businesses and organizations who have participated in the Bright Futures program are invited to attend. The Trenton Art Guild hosted a fall art critique on Saturday at the Dorris Rider Art Gallery on the campus of North Central Missouri College. A total of 21 artists participated in the event, bringing one piece of art to be critiqued by Don Stall, a self-taught artist from Alma, pictured at right. Stall works primarily in pencil, but also does work in pen and ink and oils as well as woodcarving and clay sculpture. He has done illustrations for State Farm and Kendall Hunt Publishing along with illustrating several children’s books, including many children’s books of his own. He currently owns a studio and gallery in Alma and also teaches portraiture classes. Pictured with Stall is Merlin Vandevender of Chula, left, who brought his artwork, “Blue Waves.”

Trick Or Treat Night Is Oct. 28 The 16th annual “Trick or Treat Night,” sponsored by the Trenton Ambassadors and Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Monday, Oct. 28. The event will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Rock Barn and will feature over 30 businesses and organizations providing treats and other fun for area youth. who are encouraged to dress in Halloween clothing. An adult should accompany children attending the event. Those attending will be asked to line up at the gated area on the east side of the Rock Barn, with entrance being made through the north door inside the courtyard area. Each of the participating groups who have a decorated table will have their table judged, with prizes going to the top three winners. $1,000 In Prizes Planned At Rotary-Sponsored Parade Nearly $1,000 in prizes awaits the winning entries of the 2019 Missouri Day Festival Parade schedule for Saturday morning, Oct. 19. The Trenton Rotary Club is again sponsoring this year’s parade. The Spirit of Missouri Days grand prize winner will receive a $200 prize with the runner-up earning a $100 prize. In addition, prizes in the amount of $100 each will be awarded to the Best Business Entry, the Best Organization Entry, the Best Youth Entry and the Best Religious Entry. Prizes of $50 will be awarded to
the Best Equestrian Entry, the Best Tractor Entry and the Best Car or Truck Pre-1960 and the Best Car or Truck Post-1960. Entries may receive more than one prize. The theme of this year’s parade is “Missouri Days - Embracing the Past, Looking to the Future.” Entries are currently being accepted on the Trenton Chamber of Commerce website (www.trentonmochamber.com) by clicking on Missouri Day Festival Parade for entering any and all categories. The parade rolls at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 19 and,
