Manufacturing Business

License Granted For Medical Marijuana Facility At Trenton A company that had planned locating a pharmaceutical-grade cannabis cultivation and production facility in Trenton but was turned down in December has now been approved to receive a state license that would allow the business to locate its manufacturing business in the community. Kings Garden Midwest LLC is one of five companies announced on Friday as receiving a medical marijuana facility license from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. According to a news release from the DHSS, the company was granted the license after it was determined that some facilities had submitted duplicate applications for licenses for a single facility, which were then approved by the state. Because only one license can be used for a facility, duplicate license approvals were merged into one,

allowing for the five new licensees to be moved from the “conditionally denied application” list and receive state licensing approval. Micah Landes, executive director of the North Central Missouri Development Alliance, said she was excited by the announcement on Friday, which she noted will mean new jobs for the Trenton area. She said the license approved tor Kings Garden Midwest was for manufacturing only, with the actual number of jobs unknown at this time. She said the application from Kings Garden had received high marks during the original selection process in December, but fell just short of the point number set for initial licensing approval. The state listed the facility address at 3300 Pleasant Plain, however, Mrs. Lan-

des said it is possible the location could change. The original application submitted to the state sought both cultivation and manufacturing licenses for the Pleasant Plain address. But because only a manufacturing license has been granted, a smaller facility could be used. The application noted that Kings Garden Midwest does not own the Pleasant Plain building at this time. The city of Trenton, which worked with NCMDA on the project, has already approved changes to the city ordinance regarding the location of medical marijuana facilities in the community In addition to Trenton, other licenses went to MidAmeriCanna and Nature’s Med MO, LLC at St. Louis, ROI Labs of Atherton at Independence and Missouri Made Marijuana at Grain Valley.

THS ‘Family’ Selects McVay As 2020 Honoree “It’s all about family,” according to this year’s THS Alumni honoree, who calls Trenton High School - it’s administration, it’s faculty and it’s students – family. Graham McVay definitely bleeds Black and Gold and, after a long visit with him, it is so obvious how much he loves Trenton High School, making him a deserving honoree as chosen by the Class of 1995. Growing up a single child and with few relatives around, Graham quickly saw the THS family as his own. The son of Bob and Barbara Perry McVay, his mother was an only child and his uncle had no children, so the only “so-called siblings” that Graham had were first cousins living in Michigan and Colorado. He has lived a simple life, but by his choosing. A proud graduate of Trenton High School, Class of 1982, Graham enjoyed school and his extracurricular activities included junior varsity golf and basketball. Only once did he play varsity on the golf team and that was by accident

when another golfer made a mistake with Coach Ron Hurst and Graham moved to varsity for one meet (and the details will remain unknown). After high school graduation, Graham headed off to the University of Missouri and only one semester showed the quiet and reserved McVay that a university the size of Mizzou was not for him. He returned home and after a year and a half, graduated from Trenton Junior College with his associate in arts degree. Following completion of his two-year degree, he transferred to Missouri Western State University and completed his bachelor of science degree in agriculture. The 1988 university graduate had fulfilled his goal and it was off to find a job. Graham began part-time in the custodial department of the Trenton School District, filling in at Norton School, S.M. Rissler Elementary School, Adams Junior High and THS when custodians were ill or other circumstances created openings. And when a staff member left for knee surgery, Graham once again filled in. It

McV Vay I s 202 20 THS S Alum mnii Hono oree The 2020 Trenton High School edition of “Alumni News” is in the mail and among the headline stories is the announcement of this year’s alumni honoree. Long time R-9 employee and THS alum, Graham McVay is the selection by the Class of 1995 as the 2020 honoree. A 1982 graduate of Trenton High School, Graham later attended Trenton Junior College, where he earned an associate in arts degree, then graduated from Missouri Western State University in 1988 with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. He began part-time employment in the custodial department of the Trenton School District when looking for a job after graduation and now, some 32 years later, he is among the most tenured employees of the district. Graham considers the Trenton School District – it’s staff and it’s students - to be his family.
