Trenton Police Officer Jasmine Diab, left, made a surprise appearance at the “Blue Smoke for Jasmine” event held on Thursday, July 4. A large crowd gathered on Seventh Street between the Grundy County Detention Center and Grundy County Courthouse to ignite blue smoke bombs to honor Officer Diab, who was shot in the line of duty while transporting a prisoner to a medical facility in St. Joseph on June 14. Officer Diab spent two weeks on a Kansas City hospital before being released to a rehabilitation center. She is now back in Trenton, where she will continue her rehab locally. “Farming For The Future”
Annual Event Set To Start On Thursday Night The Galt Community Fair is set for July 11-14 with a number of events scheduled. “Farming for the Future” is the theme for the fair which kicks off on Thursday evening, July 11 with a spaghetti supper from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Galt Fire Station. The Galt Fire
Protection Ladies Auxiliary will be serving the meal. Entries can be made until 10 a.m. on Friday at the fire station for 4-H exhibits along with quilts, crafts, flower arrangements and garden items. The evening entertainment will feature the Silverado band, which
will perform from 7 to 10 p.m. A human foosball tournament is scheduled for both Friday and Saturday. The Friday competition is open to youth ages 13 to 17 while Saturday’s event is for individuals age 18 and older. The deadline to enter is July 10 and persons can register by
calling Leetta Fordyce a 359-7155. Saturday’s schedule kicks off with street contests at 10 a.m., followed by the foosball tournament, the children’s parade and the regular parade at 6 p.m. Entries are to line up at the ballfield. The evening will end with music by Ryker from 6:30 to 11 p.m.

Briefs... ED Committee Meets The Administrative Committee of the Trenton City Council will meet at 6 o’clock tonight (Tuesday, July 9) at city hall. Items on the announced agenda include discussion of conditional use permits for communication tours and discussion of the airport, including the next phase of the capital improvement plan and the building that sits on the property that formerly housed the Green Hills Animal Nutrition business.
Ice Cream Social, Concert The Trenton Band Boosters will host a concert in Sesquicentennial Park in downtown Trenton on Friday night, July 12. The event begins at 8 p.m. and will include a concert by the Trenton High School Band as well as an old fashioned ice cream social featuring homemade ice cream and desserts. Trenton Middle School FCCLA members competed at national STAR Events competitions held in Anaheim, CA, on July 2. Gavin Chambers and Gavin McAtee earned a gold rating with their Chapter Service Project Portfolio project. 8 Days Of Fun At 2019 NCM Fair The 2019 North Central Missouri Fair is gearing up with eight days of events planned later this month. Grandstand activities kick off this year’s activities, with the URA/MRCA rodeo having two shows on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 at the fairgrounds grandstand. Shows both nights get under way at 7 p.m. Admission both nights is $10 for adults and $5 for children age six to 12. Children age five and under are admitted free. The grandstand show on Sunday, July 28 features a tractor pull, which gets under
way at 1 p.m. Weigh-in will be at noon and there will be competition in seven weight classes in both Division 2 and Division 3. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children age 6 to 12 and free for children five years of age and under. The fair gets into full swing on Tuesday, July 30, when junior and senior division and creative activities are entered at the Rock Barn from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fine arts items are set to be brought in from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The parade gets under way at 5:30 p.m. with this year’s teme being “Making the

The high on Sunday at the Government Weather Station at Spickard was 85, the low was 68.

Crowder Park “Owl Prowl” Crowder State Park will host an “owl prowl”program on Saturday, July 20 in the campground amphitheater. The program gets under way at 8:30p.m., with staff presenting information about owls found in Missouri. A short hike will then be held to see and hear owls in the park. The program is free and open to the public.
Shooting Case Continued A Trenton man had his case continued after appearing in the 43rd Judicial Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 2 in connection with the shooting of Trenton Police Officer Jasmine Diab. Jamey Griffin, 38, will next be in court on Aug. 6, at which time a preliminary hearing date will be set. Griffin is charged with first degree assault -serious physical injury or special victim, a class A felony; armed criminal action, also a class A felony; and unlawful use of a weapon - shooting at or from a motor vehicle at a person, motor vehicle or building, resulting in death or injury, an unclassified felony. Griffin is accused of shooting Officer Diab as she was transporting him on June 14 to a facility in St. Joseph for a mental health evaluation. Officer Diab underwent several surgeries before being released from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility. She has since returned home and will under go additional rehab.
