Flu Shot Clinic Set
Rotary Seeks Parade Entries Entries are now being accepted for the annual Missouri Day Parade, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19. Sponsored by the Trenton Rotary Club, the parade will honor the theme “Missouri Day Embraces the Past, Looks to the Future” and will feature marching bands, floats, antique cars and tractors, equestrian units and special guests. Prize money will be awarded in 10 categories, including Spirit of Missouri Days, Best Business Entry, Best Organizational Entry, Best Religious Entry, Best Youth Entry, Best Car or Truck Pre 1960 and Best Car or Truck Post 1960, Best Equestrian Entry and Best Tractor Entry. The grand prize of $200 will be awarded to the Spirit of Missouri Days. Additional prize money will range from $50 to $100 for the remaining classes. One entry may also win more than one category. Persons can also access entry forms through the Rotary Club of Trenton Facebook page as well as the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce website, trentonmochamber.com. Persons can click on the Missouri Day Festival tab and,
under parade information, click on “visit this website.” The club asks that entries be made prior to Wednesday, Oct. 16 to allow the parade committee to organize the entry lineup. While not required, a donation of $20 per entry is suggested. Political entries will be charged a $25 fee. Persons can call Steve Taylor at 654-0069 for more information. The parade, which begins promptly at 8:30 a.m., will line up on Crowder Road and adjoining streets, then travel down Main Street to Ninth Street, where it will continue on Ninth Street before concluding at Eastside Park. Many of the marching bands will exit the parade route at Normal Street to begin additional competitions at Trenton High School and C.F. Russell Stadium being held as part of the Trenton Marching Festival. The Rotary Club encourages local and area businesses, organizations and individuals to take part in this year’s parade, which typically draws large crowds throughout the parade route in support of not only the parade but the Missouri Day Festival, which celebrates 35 years in 2019. The festival will be held from Friday, Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 20.
WRIGHT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
The Grundy County Health Department has scheduled flu clinics, which will be given on a walk-in basis. Clinics will be held at the health department on Oct. 9 and Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 11 from 2 to 6 p.m. In addition to these dates, the health department will be holding its annual “Flu Shot Spooktactular’ on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. lIn addition to flu shots, there will be treats and other Halloween Fun. Flu vaccines are recommended for all individuals age 6 months and older. The health department offers flu vaccines for persons of all ages. Those with Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance are asked to bring their card for billing purposes. Most insurances cover preventative services such as this. Those who are uninsured are asked to make a donation to help cover the cost of the vaccine.

The weather was perfect for the annual Mean Bean Bag Toss on Saturday. The event, which was a benefit for the Green Hills Women’s Shelter, drew 33 teams and was held at Chumbley’s in conjunction with the Bags, Beer and BBQ event, sponsored by the Main Street Trenton/Trenton Dowtown Improvement Association. Aound $4,000 was raised during the single-elimination event, with the funds going toward landscaping at the shelter facility in Trenton.

‘Decades’ Is 2019 Theme
Homecoming Activities Set For Sept. 23-27 Trenton High School will hold its homecoming activities the week of Sept. 23-27, with royalty to be announced during a pep rally on Wednesday, Sept 25. “Decades” is the theme for this year’s homecoming, which includes specially-themed dressup days throughout the week as well as a pep rally, parade, homecoming game and dance. The THS Student Council is in charge of the
homecoming activities. Daily theme dress-up days include Monday, “Grease”; Tuesday, “Beach Boys”; Wednesday, “Flower Child/Hippie Day”; Thursday, “80s Grunge” and Friday, “Black Out Day.” The Wednesday night pep rally will include the announcement of homecoming royalty See THS, Page 4
Wright Run Set For Oct. 5
Annual Race To Support Oncology Program Plans for the eighth annual Wright Run 5k/10k have been announced by the Wright Memorial Hospital Foundation. The 2019 event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 and will begin and conclude on the campus of Wright Memorial Hospital. Participants will meet for the official sendoff at the hospital and return for the final lap on the hospital’s walking trail. “Cancer Awareness” is this year’s theme. Pink race t-shirts will be given to all entrants into the Wright Run and will also be for sale at the event. In ad-
dition, special edition breast cancer awareness bricks will be available for purchase. The bricks can be personalized to memorialize and/or celebrate a loved one who has battled, or is currently battling breast cancer and will feature the breast cancer ribbon. The bricks will be placed in a seating area to be constructed along the hospital’s walking trail. The Grundy County Breast Cancer Support Group will be in attendance at the event and will be providing information and resources for local individuals battling breast cancer. The entry fee is $25 and will include
an official t-shirt and race bib. Participants who register on or before Sept. 20 will be able to select their t-shirt size. Registrants after that date will choose their t-shirt size on the day of the event, subject to size availability. Registration forms are available in Trenton at Premier Eye Care, Hy-Vee, Hometown Pharmacy and Wright Memorial Hospital. Race-day registration for the 5k/10k is at 7 a.m. and the race/walk will begin at 8 a.m. Proceeds from the event will support the newly-formed Oncology Nurse Navigator Program at the hospital. This
program will center around an on-staff oncology nurse navigator whose job will be to assist cancer patients throughout their entire diagnosis, treatment, and recovery process as well as the clinical coordination of their care. Parking for Wright Run participants will be limited at the hospital and those who desire to leave promptly after the race may want to park at NCMC’s Barton Campus. UB Seeks Applicants The Upward Bound Program at North Central Missouri College is accepting participant applications. High school students in the Trenton R-9, Grundy R-5, Tri-County R-7, Chillicothe R-2 and Hamilton school districts are eligible to submit applications by working through their high school counselor. Students who are selected to join the UB program will be able to begin in November. The deadline for Upward Bound applications is Oct. 2.
