Activities Cut Short By Rain

SPICKARD FALL FESTIVAL

Events Moved To School

While the weekend rain caused several activities at this weekend’s Spickard Fall Festival to be cancelled, officials were able to get in a few of the scheduled events. Named as king and queen of the 2018 Spickard Fall Festival on Friday night were Jakob Holtzclaw and Kennedy Schneiderheinze. Chosen as prince and princess were Alex Holtzclaw and Kinlea Griffin. Emmitt Marrs was named as “prince-in-waiting.” Also recognized during Friday night’s program were winners of the scarecrow decorating contest. First place went to Kellene Korody. Taking second were Roger and Joy Bonnett. Hannah and drake Weaver had the third-place winner and fourth place went to Alaina Roberts. Saturday’s youth and adult parades were cancelled due to the rain, however, the baby show was held in the afternoon at the Spickard School. Winners included: Boys, 0 to 3 months - 1. Ryker Scott Redden, son of Corda Brown and Ayrik Redden of Trenton; 2. Jack Griffin, Freddie and Shelby Griffin of Trenton. Girls - 0 to 3 months - 1. Blakelee Atchley, Taylor Atchley of Spickard; 3. Historic Preservation Meeting

The Historic Preservation Committee of the Trenton City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the North Central Missouri Development Alliance office, located in the Alexander Student Center on the North Central Missouri College Campus. The only item on the announced agenda is continued work on historic preservation topics.

Rotary Fish Fry Fundraiser

The Trenton Rotary Club will be holding its annual fish fry fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Rock Barn. Serving will be from 5 to 7 p.m. In addition to the meal of fish, chicken, sides, desserts and drinks, there will be musical entertainment and a silent auction. Tickets for the all-you-can-eat meal is $8 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 12. Tickets can be purchased from any Rotary member and will also be available at the door. Proceeds from the event go toward international projects supported by the local Rotary Club.

The Board of Adjustments of the Trenton City Council will hear two requests during a public hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1 at city hall. James Smith is requesting a 25-foot variance on the front-yard setback requirement of 25 feet to allow for construction of a porch and ramp at 506 Grundy St. Tim and Laura Bland are requesting a seven-foot variance on the side-yard setback requirement of seven feet, a 7.5-foot variance on the 25-foot side-yard setback requirement and a three-foot variance on the 25-foot rear-yard setback to construct a deck on the upper story of the back side of a building at 1242 Tinsman Ave.

Missouri ID Grace Period

Seventh District State Rep. Rusty Black, R-Chillicothe, has announced that the Department of Homeland Security is granting a grace period for the use of current Missouri identification through Jan. 22, 2019. Black said the Missouri Department of Revenue was notified on Friday of the decision, which means that residents will be able to use their current Missouri identification for federal purposes at least through that date. Mssouri has applied for a full extension through Oct. 10, 2019 and Black said it is hoped the request will be granted and announced soon. Black noted that Missouri will not be able to issue Real ID compliant identification until March 2019.

Entries for the 34th annual Missouri Day Festival Parade continue to be received and the Trenton Rotary Club is encouraging participants to pre-register for the Oct. 20 parade “Hometown Heritage” is the theme for the parade, with floats and entries celebrating the importance of the community’s local history and cultural traditions. Entries are being accepted by the Rotary Club online. Registration can be done by visiting the Trenton Chamber of Commerce website, www.trentonmochamber.com, and clicking on the Missouri Day Festival tab. Persons can also contact a mem-

ber of the Trenton Rotary Club, who will put them in contact with a parade committee member for assistance. Categories for judging include the overall prize winner - the Spirit of Missouri Day - with the best entry earning a $200 cash prize. A second prize of $100 is being awarded to the secondplace winner. Annual Jailbreak Poker Run Set For Weekend

The Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its eighth annual “Jailbreak Poker Run” on Saturday, Sept. 15. The event is a fundraiser for the chamber and includes a 160-mile ride through north Missouri along with a meal and prizes at the end of the day. Registration will be at 11 a.m. at

The Trenton City Council, once a month, receives information in its packet concerning the monthly sales tax and capital project sales tax, along with a comparison of funds received a year ago. Information from the park sales tax is also received. The Republican-Times will carry this information along with the council meeting story when made available.
