Committee Suggesting Policy, Lease Changes The Administrative Committee of the Trenton City Council will be sending changes to both the city’s sign policy and row crop lease agreement for final approval following action taken during a committee meeting on Monday night. City Clerk Cindy Simpson said the committee changed its sign policy to include allowing warning signs to be placed in areas where minors under the

age of 18 and who are handicapped certified by a doctor reside. The previous policy only allowed signs for those individuals with hearing impairments. Also allowed under the policy are signs in areas where child day care centers are located as defined under the city code. Changes being recommended in the row crop lease agreement (used by the city when leasing cropland in

the city-owned industrial park in north Trenton) include increasing the number of acres rentable to 65 more or less and reserving the right of the lessor (the city) to apply waste sludge to the property or sell any portion while the agreement is in effect. The change recommendations, along with the final policy and lease documents, will go to the city council for action at its meeting on Monday night, Jan. 13.

The Spickard Board of Aldermen will be moving forward with making improvements to the city’s wastewater system following action taken at a board meeting on Monday night. According to minutes provided by City Clerk Amy Chapman, the board voted to move forward with requesting qualifications for professional engineering services. The city has been working the past several months on efforts to address concerns by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources regarding needed improvements to the system. Liz Grove and Gary Webber of the Missouri Rural Water Association and Jackie Soptic from the Green Hills Regional Planning Commission met with the board to discuss the availability of a loan for wastewater and drinking water needs. The board decided to focus on wastewater issues regarding any funding it might receive and agreed to look into a loan from the national rural water association to make repairs to the existing pump station. It was announced that Public Water Supply District #1 will be raising rates from $.00562 per gallon to $.006 per gallon, effective with the Feb. 1 bill. The city will not be raising rates at this time. The water loss rate for the month of December was at 14.99 percent, with several days of hydrant flushing. The board voted to purchase 100 gallons of diesel fuel as well as accept the resignation of alderman J.R. Roberts, who was not present for the meeting.
