Water Smell, Taste Trenton City Administrator/Utility Director Ron Urton is asking customers of Trenton Municipal Utilities to contact the utility regarding any concerns they have about the smell and taste of city water. Urton said the city has received a few calls about the water system, which he noted has been undergoing yearly flushing and water cleaning procedures over the past few weeks. He said the procedure can cause water to have a musty taste and a strong odor until the lines are cleared. Several areas of town have already had flushing done to their lines, with the last area being completed today (Friday). He said that once the flushing is done, the water smell and taste should improve. Urton is asking customers to call TMU so that the utility can identify areas in town that still might be experiencing issues. “If we know where there might be areas in town that are still having problems, we can have crews check those areas out,” Urton said. Customers can call TMU at 359-2281.

The 2018 real estate and personal property tax bills are in the mail with the Grundy County Collector’s office providing a new, convenient way to pay taxes. Collector-Treasurer Barbara Harris said taxpayers can now use a secure drop box located on the north side of the courthouse to pay their tax bill after hours. Tax payments must be received in person or postmarked by Dec. 31 or left in the drop box by that date. A receipt will be mailed to those who do not pay in person. Anyone who does not receive a tax bill by Friday, Nov. 16 is asked to contact the collector’s office as soon as possible. If a personal property tax bill is not received, residents should contact the assessor’s office at 359-4040, ext. 2 to ensure that the assessor has a 2018 assessment form on file. Section 52.23 of the Missouri State Statute indicates that failure to receive a tax notice does not relieve the taxpayer of tax liability. Persons with questions may contact the collector’s office at 359-4040, ext. 3.
Reports dominated the bulk of a Tuesday evening meeting of the North Central Missouri College Board of Trustees. NCMC President Dr. Lenny Klaver reported on a recent trip to Washington D.C., where he met with representatives of Sens. Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill and Rep. Sam Graves. He also attended the Ruffalo Noel Levitz Presidents Roundtable and said he came away feeling like NCMC is doing well compared with other institutions in the areas of enrollment growth and management, teamwork and finances. He updated the board on developments within the health sciences program and discussed a recent visit by Rep. Graves to the campus. Dr. Klaver reported on a Missouri Chamber of Commerce-State Economic Development Conference held in St. Louis and shared a graph on how Missouri compares to the U.S. in education attaintment. The graph, which compared
adults age 25 and over, shows that Missouri has a less than average number of adults with less than a high school diploma and is above average in the number of students who have a high school diploma only and some college credit. Missouri is slightly below average in the number in the areas of students who hold an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree and a graduate/professional degree. Dr. Klaver also discussed a grant application that is due Friday, “Leading Edge: Hands-on, Brains-on, Convergent Technology Training for the Northern Missouri Agriculture and Industry Sectors.” The $350,000 grant would require a match, if awarded. Several personnel items were approved during the meeting. Hired as clinical adjunct instructors for the nursing program were Nevada Fields of Laredo and Michelle See NCMC, Page 7
