Christmas Wish Project Helps Provide Christmas For All The Trenton Kiwanis Club, in conjunction with KTTN, has opened the application process for the Christmas Wish Project. Elementary school students will have application forms sent home with them or families who would like to enroll for the project can pick up applications at the Trenton Police Department or KTTN during normal business hours. Forms will need to be completed and returned by Dec. 1 to either KTTN or to the Kiwanis mailing address listed on the form. To be eligible for the program, a family must live in Grundy County, have custody of the chil-
dren for whom they are seeking assistance and meet the income regulations based on the 2018 Federal Poverty guidelines. The program is designed to assist low income families with children age 12 and under with Christmas gifts for their children. Each child is able to request a specific gift, valued at $30 or less. Club members attempt to keep Christmas magical for children by granting those wishes. Funding for the Christmas Wish Project comes from the generosity of area businesses and residents. There are several ways donations can be made. Beginning Nov. 26, KTTN will air

the “wishes” of area children on the radio. An individual can purchase the specific gift and drop it off at KTTN, Royal Inn Pizza or Dave’s Body Shop. Monetary donations will also be accepted at those same locations, with the money used to purchase specific gifts. Kiwanis Club members, with assistance fron the Trenton High School Key Club, will shop in mid-December for gifts not previously donated. Toys will then wrapped and bagged for delivery to families in time for Christmas. “The community has been a tremendous supporter of the program for over 30 years, some-
thing for which Kiwanis members are quite thankful,” project coordinator Kara Helmandollar said. “Each year the club serves numerous children who might not otherwise experience the joy of a gift at Christmas.” She went on to say that the best part of the project is when the club receives assistance from an individual who had previously been served by the project and wants to help because of the impact that project had on their life at the time. Persons wanting more information can contact Mrs. Helmandollar at 359-5966.
