Special Area Church Services Planned

P&Z Hearings Planned The Trenton Planning and Zoning Commission will hold two public hearings on Monday, Jan. 6 at Trenton City Hall. John Barron is requesting a 10-foot variance on the required 15-foot side yard setback next to a street to allow for construction of a storage building on property at 200 Harris Ave. Jim and Maggie Bush are requesting a minor sub-division for property at 1860 E. 16th St. The hearings will get under way at 7 p.m.

NCMC Winter Break North Central Missouri College will be closed Monday, Dec. 23 through Wednesday, Jan. 1 for winter break. All offices at all locations will be closed during this time. The Ketcham Community Center will remain open except on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, when it will be closed. KCC hours on Dec. 31 will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. All offices at all locations will resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Trenton High School band students presented their winter concert on Monday evening at the school with performances by the symphonic band and the newly-formed jazz band. Lily White, at left on the trumpet, and Mackenzie Klinginsmith, at right on alto saxophone, were featured during the symphonic band’s timely performance of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” Ethan Stewart is the Trenton R-9 Director of Bands.

R-T Closing At Noon

Offices Closing Early Several offices and businesses have announced their plans to close early or be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24 in observance of the Christmas holiday. Closed will be the Trenton City Hall/Trenton  Municipal Utilities, the Grundy County Health Department, the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library, the Green Hills Regional Planning Commission and Career Center and the Community Partnership of North Central Missouri (which will also be closed through Dec. 27). Closing early will be the Grundy County Courthouse, county offices (county clerk, treasurer and ex-officio recorder and assessor) will be open regular hours, state offices (Circuit and Associate Court divisions and the juvenile office) will close at 1 p.m.; the Grundy County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, 1 p.m.; Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce/License Bureau, 1 p.m; the North Missouri Children’s Advocacy

Center, 12:30 p.m.; Grundy Electric Cooperative/Grundy and Livingston County Public Water District offices, 11:30 a.m.; Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri, noon; Farmers State Bank, noon; Citizens Bank and Trust, 1 p.m.; US Bank, 1 p.m.; and BTC Bank, noon. The North 65 Center will be open for lunch on Dec. 24, but Fun Night activities will not be held in the evening. The center will be closed on both Dec. 25 and Dec. 26. The Grundy County Extension office will be closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 1. The Trenton Post Office will have its window open until noon on Dec. 24, however, box customers will be able to access their mail as is normally done. Mail route deliveries will also take place as normal. The Republican-Times office will close at noon on Dec. 24 and will re-open at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26.

The Spickard R-2 Board of Education met on Monday night, approving the school audit. According to information provided by Superintendent Jonnie Beavers, the audit was for the 2018-19 school year.  It was the only action taken by the board. Classes will be dismissed at 1 p.m. on Friday for the Christmas holiday break, with teachers returning to school on Jan. 6 for in-service training before students come back on Jan. 7. Filing has opened for the April board of education election, which has the three-year terms of Roger Bonnett and Glenn Wilson expiring. Persons may file in the school office during regular business hours until Tuesday, Jan. 21. The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20.

County Commission News The Grundy County Commission approved a new health insurance carrier and steel bids during a meeting held on Tuesday and have announced the agenda items for next week’s meeting. Grundy County Clerk Betty Spickard said the county will be using a Blue Cross Blue Shield policy administered through HIC Insurance. She said the policy will be less expensive than the current one, although no firm figures have been provided by the company. In other business, the commission accepted bids for steel for bridges. Lee’s Machine Shop of Chillicothe was awarded the rebar bid at a cost of $1.492.92 for two tons while Oden Enterprises of Wahoo, NE was awarded the bid for backwall at a cost of $8,652.36 for 12 sheets. The agenda for the Tuesday, Dec. 24 meeting includes a 10 a.m. meeting with Ambulance Director Steve Tracy and continued work on the 2020 budget.

Airport Board Recommends Bid For Lighting The Airport Advisory Board of the Trenton City Council will be making a recommendation to the council for runway lighting work following a meeting of the board on Monday night.

Because only two of five board members were present, no formal action could be taken. Along with board members Dyle Wilson and Steve Hammond, others present were City Admin-

istrator Ron Urton, Airport Manager Donnie Vandevender and Wes Barone, who will be assuming management of the airport when Vandevender retires later this month. Several local pilots

Eighth grader Milo Simpson won the 2019 Trenton Middle School National Geographic Geography Bee, held on Wednesday in the TMS/THS Media Center. Simpson bested fifth grader Graeme Sager in head-to-head competition to win the championship round. Simpson will now take an online test to qualify for the state competition next month. Students answered questions on various topics, including geography, ancient and world civilizations, cultures and physical features. Finalists in the TMS competition included, from left, eighth graders Wyatt Ledbetter (at-large winner), Milo Simpson and Madison Snuffer; seventh graders Aubree Phillips (at-large winner), Josh Truitt and Jorge Sanchez; sixth graders Michael Baker and Rylan Ebersold; and fifth graders Graeme Sager and Precious Vick.
