Briefs... Sectional BB Information The Trenton High School girls basketball team will be playing in the Class 3 sectional game at Moberly on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs, the District 14 champion, will be taking on Monroe City, the District 13 winner, in the 8:15 game, being played in the Moberly Community College Activity Center gym. Fans attending the game will be able to enter the gym beginning at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $7 per person (ages 6 and over) and passes will not be allowed. Fans are being asked to sit in the bleachers opposite of where their team is located.

Finance Committee Meeting The Finance Committee of the Trenton City Council will meet at 6 o’clock tonight (Tuesday) at city hall. Items on the announced agenda include work on the 2019-20 budget, including the budgets for the electric, water and wastewater departments.

License Bureau Information With the License Bureau being temporarily closed at Trenton due to the recent fire, residents can use other area license offices until the local office can be reopened. License Bureau offices in this area are located in Chillicothe at 730 Washington St.; at Princeton in The Famous Building at 703 Hickman St., Ste. B; at Milan in the Nickels and Dimes Building at 200 E. Third St.; and at Bethany in the State Farm Insurance Building at 3105 Miller St.

Chamber Event At KCC The Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that the location for this year’s annual banquet has been moved to the Ketchan Community Center. The banquet will be held on Friday, March 15 and is being moved to accomodate a larger crowd expected to attend this year’s event. The program will include recognition of the Pillars of the Community - R.W. Keuhn and Phil Schlarb - along with the Small and Large Businesses of the Year and the Organization of the Year, which will be announced later this week. Entertainment includes a lip sync contest and there will also be a live auction. The banquet, which is open to both members and the public, begins at 6 p.m. The cost is $35 per person, with silver ($500) and table ($320) sponsorships available. Reservations are required, however, persons can pay at the door or the chamber will send an invoice for payment. Initial Pirates Ball Celebration

Alumni, Contributors Honored Three alums of North Central Missouri College were honored and a lead contributor recognized during the NCMC Foundation “Pirates Ball” on Saturday night at the Red Barn. Evelyn Goodrich Trickel, Allan Seidel and Lawrence “Arnie” Arneson were presented with the 2018 Distinguished Alumni award, which represents individuals who attended Trenton Junior College/North Central Missouri College and have distinguished themselves and the college in their professions or chosen endeavors. Mrs. Trickel attended TJC from 1958 to 1959 and was also a former instructor and director of the adult education. Seidel attended TJC from 1964 to 1965 and is currently an attorney in Trenton as well as serving as the current president of the NCMC Foundation. Arneson was a student at TJC from 1952 to 1953 and retired from a long career in the banking industry. Honored as the 2018 “Lead Contributor” were Delores Kuttler and her late husband, John Kuttler. The Kuttlers have been long-time supporters of TJC/NCMC, with John serving several years as a member of the college’s Board of Trustees and Delores teaching art classes on the college campus. The Kuttlers’ contributions have helped with the development of the Barton Ag Campus, which is home to the Kuttler Animal Science Complex. Dr. John Holcomb, a member of the NCMC Board of Trustees, introduced each of the honorees, who were presented with awards by President Dr. Lenny Klaver. Chris Hoffman, a member of the NCMC Foundation Board of Directors and the college Board of Trustees, gave the welcome. Dr. Klaver also gave a brief talk about efforts to “grow the college” and told of

planning now under way to add programs, activities and learning facilities, which he said will attract more students who have a desire to receive a good education. “Success does not come about by chance,” he said. “It begins with people and planning and the ability to make that plan happen as well as having the passion to make that plan a success.” He credited the staff, faculty, students and the community in helping get the college to where it is today and encouraged their continued support as NCMC moves forward to serve its 16-county service re-

gion. “I would ask all of you here tonight to help keep NCMC on the path of success by being generous and being great ambassadors for our institution,” Dr. Klaver said. Around 170 persons attended the event, which included an auction to help raise funds for the foundation’s Voyage Fund. The fund supports new and current programs designed to enhance the learning experience of students as well as provide professional development opportunities forfaculty and staff.

Soil & Water Luncheon The Grundy County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its annual Customer Appreciation Day Luncheon and Awards Ceremony on Friday, March 8. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Barton Farm Campus. Recognition will be given to the 2019 Cooperator of the Year (Oram Brothers - Jonathan Oram) and the 2019 Soil Health Steward of the Year (Larry and Judy Urton). An election of board members will also be taking place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., also at the Barton Farm Campus.

The North Central Missouri College basketball program honored its sophomore players and parents during Saturday’s home finale with North Arkansas Community College. A large crowd attended the activities, which saw both NCMC teams fall to the visitors. The NCMC teams are involved in Region 16 tournament action, which gets under way this Thursday.

It was a busy weekend in Trenton with the Trenton Area Ministerial Alliance sponsoring its annual “Sharing of the Heart” potato bar and pie auction on Friday night at The Space, pictured at left, and the Better Woman Conference on Friday and Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church, pictured at right. Michael Witten conducted the pie action, which raised money for the Good Samaritan Fund and provides utility bill help to those in need. Shari Minke was the guest speaker at the Better Woman Conference, portraying several characters, including Norma Lee Crotchety during Saturday morning’s session.

National Weather Service Mostly cloudy all week with highs near 30 and lows as low as 15. The high at the Government Weather Station at Trenton on Feb. 21 was 38, Friday’s high was 40 and Saturday’s high was 42. Sunday’s high was 25 and the low was 8. There was .95 of an inch of rain on Friday, and .06 of an inch of rain fell on Saturday. The high on Sunday at the Government Weather Station near Spickard was 22, the low was 3.
