BTC Bank Location
BTC Bank has made application to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation for approval to establish a branch facility at 1000 Oklahoma Ave. in Trenton. The 1000 Oklahoma Ave. address is the current address for KFC/Taco Bell. BTC President Doug Fish said it is hoped the new facility can be open in the next 30 to 35 days. He referred to the published address for the bank as a temporary location. In June, BTC Bank announced plans to locate a branch facility in Trenton with Trenton native Tom Witten as the Trenton Market President. At the time, Fish said the bank planned to look for an existing location to open within 90 days of its announcement, with a long-range plan of constructing a new building. According to a notice appearing in today’s RepublicanTimes, interested parties have until Thursday, Sept. 6 to make comment to the FDIC regional director about the branch establishment, with processing of comments being completed no earlier than the 15th day following either the date of the last required publication of the date of the receipt of application by the FDIC, whichever is later. The period may be extended for good cause by the regional director.
Committee Meetings
Donations, Reports Approved
AREA SCHOOL BOARDS
Princeton R-5, Newtown-Harris R-2
Donations were accepted and reports approved during meetings of the Princeton R-5 and Newtown-Harris R-2 boards of education held last week. Princeton R-5 The Princeton R-5 Board of Education held a special meeting on Monday, Aug. 13, accepting two monetary donations and taking action on several items. Gary and Kathy Thompson have donated $19,021.10 to help with costs involving the installation of a new football scoreboard at the Eddie Allen Field. The district purchased a used scoreboard last winter from the Waukee, IA school district for $500 and the Thompsons’ donation will be used to cover installation costs as well as placing a sign on the top of the
scoreboard, designating “Eddie Allen Field.” Volunteer labor and equipment will be used to put up the scoreboard and sign, saving the district around $7,000. A second donation of $1,000 was received from Pearl Scurlock. The money will be used to purchase an automatic external defibrillator for the Stacy Center. The district already has an AED in the elementary building and the second unit will now make one available in the junior/senior high building area. A bid for dairy products from Anderson Erickson was accepted. It was the lowest of two received and includes bids for milk, orange juice, cottage cheese and sour cream. No bids were received for bakery items.
The board approved the 2017-18 Annual Secretary of the Board Report, which will be submitted to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The report shows the district with an unrestricted fund balance at around 40 percent. An updated preschool handbook was approved as well as a change to the 201819 school calendar due to a typographical error. The final makeup day, if needed, will be on Tuesday, May 28. Following an executive session, Philip Todd was hired as a custodian. Nancy Gamet and Harlene Dougan were hired as part-time preschool paraprofessionals. Both women previously taught in the R-5 See Boards, Page 4

The proposed tax rate is estimated to generate $333,500.
KCP&L Rate Increase
The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a request to change the fuel adjustment charge on its electric customers’ monthly bills. The change, filed by Kansas City Power and Light’s Great Missouri Operations Company, reflects the cost to purchase fuel and power from December 2017 to May 2018 as well as the company’s fuel adjustment charge true-up. With the PSC approval, a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month will see a monthly increase of around $1.14 to $2.40 a month. The change will take effect on Sept. 1. Among area counties affected are Grundy, Daviess, Mercer, Harrison and Livingston.
