Bridge Bids Opened A Columbia contractor has the apparent low bid for construction of the new 17th Street Bridge. Six bids were opened by Trenton city officials on Friday afternoon and Boone Construction submitted the lowest bid price of $2,339,736.75. The bid is just over $150,000 more than the estimate given to the city over a year ago by its engineers, Olsson and Associates. Urton said the original estimate was $2,180,000. Boone Construction was the contractor for the Charlie Dye Bridge. Bids for the project ranged from the low bid from Boone Construction to a bid of $3,041,705 from Emery Sapp and Sons, which has offices in Kansas City and Columbia. Urton said engineers will now review all six bids before making a recommendation to the Trenton City Council at its Sept. 9 meeting. The council bid approval, Urton said, would be contingent upon approval by the Missouri Department of Transportation, which is also helping to fund the project.

TRENTON ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Classes Gather For Annual Reunion The 70th annual Trenton High School alumni reunion is now history and plans are already under way for the 2020 edition. Record numbers were reported at each of the all-alumni events over the weekend and most of the special classes shared similar responses with great attendance. Officers of the Foundation Trust for THS/THS Alumni Association were reelected at the organization’s annual meeting on Sunday with Dr. John Holcomb re-elected president; Steve Muff, vice president; Steve Maxey, secretary; and Katie Kinney, treasurer. Plans were adopted for the reactivation of the THS Alumni Association Scholarship to a graduating THS senior, beginning this year, with $300 to be presented. Several classes were recognized for contributing to the fund. A committee of Maxey, Miss Kinney and James Hughes will head up the selection committee and recommend specific criteria for the scholarship. Classes, individuals and school organizations are encouraged to contribute to the scholarship, for which donations are tax-deductible. Kris Ockenfels, representing the Trenton R-9 School District, discussed the scheduled upcoming building projects, including a performing arts center,

Event Focusing On Service To Community Serve Trenton will again be helping those in need. Both volunteers and projects are being sought for the annual community event, which will be held on Sept. 28-29. Serve Trenton gives individuals the opportunity to come together and serve the community by taking on projects in which additional help is needed to complete. Emphasis is placed on projects that serve the elderly, orphans and impoverished. Persons having a project or who know of someone needing assistance are asked to go to the Serve Trenton Facebook page and complete a form, which can be submitted to the Facebook page or dropped off at the Trenton Fire Department, Shelter Insurance or

Premier Eyecare Association as well as at any participating church. Volunteers are invited to help either one or both days. Volunteers should be at least 10 years of age, with youth being assigned to work in the same groups with their parents/guardians. In addition to helping with projects, volunteers are also needed for food preparation and child care. Volunteer forms are also available on the Facebook page and may be turned in to the same places listed above. The deadline to submit all forms is Friday, Sept. 13.
Participants will meet at C.F. Russell Stadium at 8 a.m. on both days, which will start with a time of worship prior to being disbursed to the various work sites. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Trenton High School. This is the fourth year for the Serve Trenton effort. Last year, volunteers from the community worked on various community improvement projects, including yard clean-up, window repair, house painting, sidewalk replacement and walking dogs at the dog shelter. Plaque Dedicated At Memorial Wall
Ceremony Honors Long-Time Physician A plaque recognizing Trenton physician Dr. J.A. Keuhn and his wife, Chris was dedicated during ceremonies held on Friday afternoon, Aug. 30 at the site of the Wright Memorial Hospital Memorial Wall along the walking trail. Steve Schieber, CEO, Critical Access Region for the Saint Luke’s Health Systems, recognized the Keuhns for their contributions to the hospital. Dr. Keuhn recently retired after serving on the WMH medical staff since 1976. He has served on the hospital advisory board and both he and his wife have been members of the WMH Foundation Board as well. Schieber said Dr. Keuhn’s decision to come back to his hometown to practice medicine is an example of what the hospital means to the community. He thanked the WMH employees for their dedication in helping to make foundation projects a reality, in particular the walking trail, which both he and guest

one of the most therapeutic and rewarding things a person can do and this project has been fortunate to benefit from the community’s generosity,” he said.
