M M M Elections to be held on Tuesday, April 3, involve school boards, municipal and special districts. There are 22 circumstances this spring where no contest exists between candidates and vacancies and, thus, no election is required. The following summarizes ballot decisions which will be placed before voters. The Tax Rate Ceiling has been lowered during these five years based on the calculations of state auditors. A number of improvements have been financed by the levy during the past five years. A simple majority is required for the proposal to pass. This ballot proposal to continue the 25-cent tax levy is the only issue that voters of Jamesport and Jackson Townships will decide. Brice Garnett goes wire-to-wire for first PGA Tournament victory Geographically, Brice Garnett was far away from Daviess County last weekend, but the Gallatin R-5 High School grad still found himself inside a lot of area living rooms on Sunday. Garnett capped a masterful performance on Sunday with a finalround 70 to win the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Garnett’s first ever win on the PGA Tour was a wire-to-wire affair that featured both a strong start and strong finish. He came in at nine shots under par on Thursday with a round of 63 and dropped to minus 13 on Friday and built a lead on the field that was never threatened in the final two days of the event. “Can anyone chase down Brice Garnett?” became the mantra on Sunday as the former Bulldog and Missouri Western State University golfer finished with a solid, safe round on the final day. “Today was such a huge opportunity to me in my golfing game,” Brice said in a post-event interview. He credited the time and effort he put in on the Web.com Tour, where he won twice and finished as the regular season Web.com money winner. Brice also credited the support he has received from family and friends, including those back in Gallatin. A quick start on Saturday put the rest of the field in his rear view mirror as he took a four-shot lead with four birdies in his first seven holes of play. Garnett birdied #12 to move to minus 19 after recov(continued on page 5)
Occupants escape safely after home catches fire
Terry Jarboe and his three grandsons safely escaped from a fire that consumed the residence of Terry and Mary Jarboe, at 28526 Highway CC southwest of Gallatin, last Saturday afternoon, March 24. Mary and her daughter-in-law, Natalie, were away at the city at the time. Terry had just fed lunch to the boys, and then sat down in his chair. When he looked out the window, he noticed what looked like fog. Suspicious, he
then went out the front door and saw that the garage was on fire. Terry immediately got the boys out of the house and called 9-1-1 at approximately 1:43 p.m. Neighbors Sarah and Jesse Bird, who happened to be driving by, stopped and took the boys with them out of harm’s way. Mary arrived back at the house about 45 minutes after Terry made the 911 call.
The Gallatin Fire Protection District Engine 101 and Tanker 103 responded to the call. While en route, dispatch advised firefighters that the house was vacant of any people and that the attached garage was being consumed by fire. Mutual aid was requested from KAW Fire District, Lake Viking Fire, Jameson Fire District, Hamilton Fire, (continued on page 5)
