The Daviess County Health Department celebrated Public Health Week April 1-7. National Public Health Week is celebrated every year the first week of April. The Daviess County Board of Directors voted to give back to county residents for all their support by offering free labs to county residents and discounted labs to non-residents again this year. “We had a fantastic turnout this year,” said Administrator Cheryl Alexander. The health department completed 127 labs on Monday and 133 labs on Tuesday. The health department also offered a blood pressure booth manned by board members Shelly Sims, RN, and Mary Beth Pittsenbarger, RN. The health department partnered with resource booths from Active Aging Resource Center, Access II, Second Harvest, Daviess County Nursing and Rehab and Northwest Missouri Area on Aging. “Thank you all very much for volunteering your time. Our community benefits greatly from these resources,” said Administrator Alexander. The health department continued to offer more discounts on Friday in celebration of public health week by offering to pay $25 of stroke detection screening for those in Daviess County, with 57 participants.
