James L. Ruse honored by state administrators
James L. Ruse, Gallatin High School Superintendent from 1990 to 2010, was recently honored by the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA) for his service to public education. Ruse was one of eight former educators to receive the association’s Outstanding Emeritus Educator Award. This special recognition was made during the awards banquet at the MASA Spring Conference on April 4 at The Lodge of Four Seasons at Lake Ozark. MASA presents the award annually to recognize individuals for their length of administrative service, their participation in MASA while an active member, significant accomplishments as a school administrator and for their continued interest in public education since retiring. Ruse was nominated for the award by his colleagues in the Northwest MASA District. Jim completes 44 years of service this spring. In addition to his 20 years at the helm of Gallatin R-5, he has most recently

Wheels, etc) Race for the kiddos. IATVHSS is a family oriented organization. On Saturday, there are 30-minute and one-hour youth ATV races followed by one-hour UTV/SXS XC Racing. On Sunday, there are two-hour adult ATV XC (Woods) Hare Scrambles. About 250 riders are expected. The riders bring a following of family and friends. Add to that an expected 100-150 locals, and the expected crowd is somewhere around 600 people. Broken Arrow BBQ will be serving meals and breakfast on Sunday. Other concessions will also be available. There is a $15 admission charge to the races, which includes the entire weekend. Kids 5 and under are free. Saturday Race Times: ● 12 Noon: Little Electric Races ● 3 p.m.: Youth ATV Parade Lap ● 4 p.m.: Youth 50cc stock, 50cc production race (30 minutes) ● 4:30 p.m.: 70cc, 90 stock, 90 production and Super Minis Race (60 minutes) ● 5:30 p.m.: UTV Parade Lap (continued on page 5)

Cheryl served as administrator at Pattonsburg Multi-Purpose Center during the last 10 months. Sheila took over administrative duties last Friday.
New director at Pattonsburg Center
Sheila Ellis officially began as administrator at the Pattonsburg Multi-Purpose Center on Friday, April 13. Mrs. Ellis was administrator at the senior center in Maysville for 10 months, and she previously worked for Dungy’s Market in Gallatin as the closing manager. Sheila has been married 35 years to Tom Ellis, who works as a route driver for Little Debbie. The couple live south of Pattons-
burg. They have three children and six grandchildren. Mrs. Ellis is the daughter of Bob and the late Elsie Sweiger, Pattonsburg. “I’m looking forward to reconnecting with the people from the Pattonsburg area,” she said. Remember... Gallatin FBLA places 31 members in Top 10 at state conference Local chapter sending 28 students to Baltimore, MD, after qualifying as Top 4 in Missouri FBLA competition Fifty-one Gallatin FBLA members joined nearly 5,000 students from across the state in Springfield for the Missouri FBLA State Leadership Conference April 8-10. The students’ main focus was competitive events where they could earn the right to compete
at the National Leadership Conference this summer in Baltimore, MD. Events range from accounting I to website design, with economics, public speaking, and social media mixed in between. Overall, FBLA is home to more than 70 events.
The Gallatin R-5 High School chapter is under the direction and support of adviser Barb Holcomb. A highlight to the conference was watching Hayley Michael, Missouri State Parliamentarian, on stage helping to lead the state conference as a member of the

North Daviess FBLA sends first student to national conference; fundraiser set Christian Malott, a sophomore and son of Jessica Nelson, will be representing the North Daviess R-3 School District in Baltimore, MD, at the National FBLA Leadership Conference this June. According to R-3 business teacher Jonathan Elder, this is the first time in school history that an FBLA student has been sent to a national conference. Christian received third place in “Intro to Business” competition at the state level, gaining him the prestigious honor of advancing to nationals. In recognition of the momentous event, the North Daviess FBLA Chapter will be holding a fun-
draising dinner on April 28. Any community members wanting to show their support for Christian are asked to join the school in congratulating him on his accomplishment over a dinner supplied by the North Daviess FBLA Chapter at the school gymnasium. The dinner will cost $10 per person. Additional donations can be made at that time as well. All proceeds and donations will go to the North Daviess FBLA Chapter and ultimately will be utilized to ensure Christian is able to attend the national conference.
2017-2018 Missouri FBLA State Officer Team. Other highlights included Hayley Michael’s selection as Who’s Who in Missouri FBLA and as Missouri FBLA’s Future Business Leader, the highest honors which can be bestowed on a member. The Gallatin FBLA chapter was awarded the statewide Spirit Gavel for the fourth consecutive year.
