Viking Valley Association Board Meeting Call to Order Phil Stockard called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the clubhouse. Members in attendance were Mike Krehbiel, Flint Hibler, James Funk, Troy Lesan, Mike Booth and Susan Zalenski. Shad Mort led the Pledge of Allegiance. Troy Lesan led in prayer. Approval of Minutes Mike Krehbiel moved to approve the minutes of the Feb. 11, 2018, board meeting. Susan Zalenski seconded; motion carried. Volunteer of the Month Phil Stockard opened a discussion about doing away with the current volunteer of the month award and replacing it with a volunteer/employee recognition when needed. Troy Lesan moved to replace the volunteer of the month with a volunteer/employee recognition. Mike Krehbiel seconded; motion carried. Committee Reports Fire Department: Tony Gronniger presented a fire department policy and procedures manual along with an application to join the fire department to the board of directors. Tony challenged the board to give this information to someone that might be interested in joining the fire department as a recruitment tool. Tony also informed the board the training room is near completion. There is a little trim work to finish. The fire department was called to mutual aid with a fire in Gallatin this past week. Mike Booth presented a program from the Red Cross to partner with local fire departments to give away and install fire detectors in personal residences at Lake Viking. The Red Cross will furnish three detectors per home and the fire department must install them. You will need to contact a member of the fire department or the association office and get your name on the list. The detectors will be available around July 1. Susan Zalenski moved to accept this program with the Red Cross. James Funk seconded; motion carried. Handbook Committee: James Funk moved to add Mary Miller as a member of the handbook committee. Flint Hibler seconded; motion carried. Finance Committee: Troy Lesan reported on the financials for April. Income is up somewhat from last year at this time and expenses are running about the same. Jimmy McKinley, from Cameron Financial Services attended the May Finance Committee meeting. Jimmy will be conducting a monthly reconciliation of all the lake financial accounts, per a motion from the Board at a past meeting. Jimmy also explained to the committee how he prepares our tax return, which brought up the question of the lake being a non-profit organization and should we be paying income tax. Glenn Miller, Mike Krehbiel and Troy Lesan will be contacting our tax attorney about filing for nonprofit status. Strategic Committee: Susan Zalenski gave a progress report on the clubhouse renovation. Don and Carolyn Leeper are getting bids for some of the work that will be done. Mary Hibler has raised approximately $3,000 for this project through a challenge she posted on facebook to contractors and mem-

bers. There will also be a raffle along with the 4th of July activities to add to the fund raising efforts. In the fall, the Incorporation Committee will present their research on incorporating the lake. Activities Committee: Mary Hibler discussed the latest and upcoming activities planned at the lake. The Cinco de Mayo was held on May 5, with over 100 people attending. They raised $128 for the clubhouse renovation, so Mary put out a challenge on facebook as was reported in the strategic planning report. Over $3,000 has been raised so far from this challenge. The Chillicothe Locker is donating a hog to be raffled off during the 4th of July activities. The first open air market was held on May 12 with four vendors setting up. All the vendors were very pleased with the outcome of the market. Saturday, June 9 will be the next open air market and also will be the 2nd Annual Poker Run. The first restaurant night will be Saturday, June 16 and will have “Smokin� Gringos BBQ. The 4th of July activities will be held on Saturday, June 30, starting with the bazaar in the clubhouse from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the fireworks at dark. The activities committee has also purchased new swings for the playground behind the clubhouse and has plans to replace the ones at the campground and beach 2. Building Committee: Flint Hibler reported there were 19 new permits with one house in April. Flint moved to add Jim Miller to the building committee. Troy Lesan seconded; motion carried. Flint also moved to allow straw socks as an alternative for silt control in place of silt fencing. Mike Booth seconded; motion carried. Campground Committee: Mary Hibler commented on the first holiday weekend coming up, which is Memorial Day weekend. Mary reported the electrical upgrades have been completed. Len Zalenski would like the finance committee to evaluate the increased electric usage from these upgrades. Mary also commented that two dumpsters are not enough for the holiday weekend in the campground. Shad Mort told Mary there would be a roll off brought in for the weekend.
