Entries are also being accepted for the yard/porch decorating and window/entryway decorating contests being held in conjunction with the festival. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top two entries in both residential and business categories for the yard/porch decorating ($50 for first place, $25 for second place) while three cash prizes will be awarded in both the residential and business categories for the window/entryway decorating ($75 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place). The deadline to enter both contests is Wednesday, Oct. 17. To enter the yard/porch decorating, persons can contact Sue Huffstutter at 358-2553 or the chamber office at 359-4324. To enter the window/entryway decorating, persons can contact Joy Wright at 324960-3708. A pumpkin decorating contest is also being planned for the festival, with first- and second-place monetary prizes ($40 for first place, $20 for second place) being awarded in the categories of business/organization, adult individ-

ual and youth 12-and-under. Pumpkins should be left at the Rock Barn courtyard between 3 and 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18 for judging. They will remain on display in the festival area throughout the weekend. Winners of the decorating contests along with the winners of the school coloring/drawing competition will be announced during Thursday’s opening ceremonies. A new event is also being added to this year’s festival, with a baby show planned on Friday night, Oct. 19 in the livestock pavillion on the festival grounds. The Green Hills Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) is organizing the event, which is open to children age five years of age and under. The fourand five-year group will compete for the title of Little Mr. and Miss Missouri Day, with the winners riding in the Missouri Day Parade on Saturday morning. Registration will be at 5:30 p.m. and the show will be at 6 p.m. There is a $3 registration fee. For more information, persons can call 660-654-1696 or 660-

Addition To Agenda

The Grundy County Commission has made an addition to its agenda for the Tuesday, Oct. 2 meeting. In addition to meeting with Ambulance Director Steve Tracy at 10 a.m., the commission will be traveling to Gallatin in the afternoon to view the VIPER 911 system in use there.

Coffee With A Cop

The Trenton Police Department will be participating in the third annual National Coffee with a Cop Day on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The local Coffee with a Cop event will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. at McDonald's. "This is an excellent opportunity for citizens of the community to meet and visit with members of the Trenton Police Department," Lt. Larry Smith said. "Citizens are encouraged to attend, ask questions about the department, special programs or law enforcement in general. Please mark your calendars and come in to spend time with the Police Officers and support a local business." Businesses wishing to host a future "Coffee with a Cop" are asked to contact the police department to schedule a date.

Park Board Meeting

The Trenton Park Board will meet in regular session at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday at city hall. Items on the announced agenda include an update on bathroom renovations, the tree plan for Eastside and Moberly parks and the floatable walkway at the aquatic center; and reports from the superintendent and the pool, grounds and facilities committees.

Fields Of Faith

The eighth annual Fields of Faith event for area youth is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 10 at C.F. Russell Stadium. This year’s adult speaker will be Chris Kurtz, a 2015 Trenton High School graduate, who is the freshman director of the The Salt Company, a ministry on the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he lives with his wife, Rachael. Events begin at 6 p.m. with a time of free food, fellowship and tailgate games, with the program to begin at 7 p.m. In addition to the address by Kurtz, the evening will include personal testimonies and encouragement from local and area students challenging other students to put their faith in Christ into action. Students in grades seven through 12 as well as college-age students are encouraged to participate. The event is open to anyone in the community to attend and youth in sixth grade or lower are welcome, but need to be accompanied by an adult. Rotary-Sponsored Parade

Dr. John Holcomb Will Lead Parade

Trenton native Dr. John Holcomb has been chosen to serve as grand marshal of this year’s Missouri Day Festival Parade, sponsored by the Trenton Rotary Club. Dr. Holcomb is a long-time volunteer who has been involved with many community activities over the years. He will lead the 2018 parade, which is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, and will also be recognized during the festival’s opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18 at the First Baptist Church. The theme for this year’s parade is “Hometown Heritage.� Entries for the parade are currently being accepted and can be made on the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce website www.trentonmochamber.com - by clicking on “Missouri Day Festival,� then going to the tab, “parade information,� where a form can be completed. While there is no cost to have an entry (political entries will have a $25 charge), donations will be accepted to help pay for the monetary prizes to be awarded to the parade winners.

There Is Still Time To Register For Run

Participants still have time to register for the seventh annual Wright Run 5K/10K, set for Saturday, Oct. 6. Online registration can be done at the website, WrightRun2018.racewire.co m. Paper registrations are available at Premier Eye Care, Hy-Vee, Hometown Pharmacy and Wright Memorial Hospital. The entry fee is now $30 and includes an official tshirt and race bib. The race begins and ends on the hospital campus, with participants meeting for final registration at 7 a.m. and the run to begin at 8 a.m. The route will go north on Iowa Boulevard and continue into the Lake Trenton area before heading back to the hospital. There will be temporary street closings from 8 to 10 o’clock that morning at Fisherman Road and Lake Trenton Drive to allow for the safety of the runners/walkers. The theme for this year’s race is “Breast Cancer Awareness,� with pink race t-shirts given to all entrants. The tshirts will also be for sale at the event along with special edition breast cancer awareness bricks. The bricks can be personalized to memorialize and/or celebrate a loved one who has battled or is currently battling breast cancer. Each brick will feature the iconic breast cancer ribbon, with the bricks being placed in the seating area to be constructed along the hospital’s walking trail. Representatives from a newly-formed organization, the Grundy County Breast Cancer Support Group, will be in attendance at the race, providing information and resources for local individuals battling breast cancer. A Kids Dash will be held again in conjunction with the 5K/10K and will be free for children ages 10 and under. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite super hero costumes. The Dash will begin at 9 a.m. All proceeds from this year’s Wright Run will go to support the purchase of a new medical rehabilitation treadmill as well as a new medical ventilator machine for the hospital. Parking for participants will be limited at the hospital and those who desire to leave promptly after the race may want to park at the North Central Missouri College Barton Campus, located just south of the hospital.
