and waste-recycling project. Concluding, he said such achievements in the fields of safety, health and environment could not have been possible without the support and directives of H.E. Board Chairman, members of senior management, support given by the Ministry of Oil and Industry and concerted efforts of all the employees and contractors. Later, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Abdul Rahman Al -Terkait, Managing Director and Mr. Mustafa Al Sayed, General Manager presented the best department awards in housekeeping and safety at the workplace to the Electrical Workshop in the Maintenance Department, office of the Engineering Section at the Technical Services Department and the Urea Plant in the Plants Operation Department. Also honoured were the outstanding employees in the areas of safety in various departments of the Company. The ceremony included a prize raffle designed to enhance the employees’ safety awareness. The exercise also urges them to take the necessary safety precautions at home or at the workplace. The best contractor prize went to Mechanical Contracting and Services Co. (MCSC) for its compliance with health, safety and environmental considerations for its employees. The event was also attended by a large number of senior officials of Government organisations, industrial companies and GPIC department managers.

time in its history. In May of this year, GPIC won for the eighth successive year the Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents UK. Such achievement could not have been possible without the fruitful co-operation between the management and all the employees. He added this is a further recognition of the efforts made by all in enhancing awareness and complying with all safety precautions. In his speech, he reiterated the significance of preventive and environmental awareness in the petrochemical industry and noted that the Company was keen on maintaining the safety and health of all the workers as well as keeping the environment clean and tidy. This is noticed by any visitor to the Complex, he said. He added that the Company obtained the Environment Quality Certification ISO 14001 in November 1999 thanks to the efforts made by the Company to protect the environment. Such efforts are demonstrated by the expansion of the Charity Fish Farm, setting up a palm-tree oasis as part of the landscaping project in the Company in addition to the Charity Vegetable Garden
