Award of Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman AlKhalifa for Industrial Excellence

President’s Foreward The numbers we put before you today are a pride for everyone at the GPIC and are the result of perfect teamwork between all of us. We have had the honour of having achieved more in production and exports than what we had targeted and we have every right to be proud of these milestones, especially since these came about while maintaining top standards in safety and the protection of the environment. All this would not have been possible without the great support of Bahrain’s leadership, which is undoubtedly recognition of the active role of the GPIC, an industrial edifice that is an example of GCC Cooperation. The company has pledged to continue to achieve more milestones despite the challenges it is facing and is determined to stick to the rules of high-performance demonstrated in all aspects, including labour relations. The GPIC continues to excel in the field of sustainability and took part in the Bahrain

GPIC takes part in UNEP programme " Green Wave" GPIC is taking part in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Green Wave Initiative held in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. The global Campaign aims to promote a culture of biodiversity and encourage school students to pay attention to the environment and agriculture in general. Students are encouraged to plant trees on their own and are introduced to various types of local trees and how they are to be cultivated and nurtured.

These activities reflect the importance of community partnership and its effective role in achieving fair and sustainable development, changing patterns of behaviour and bad habits in dealing with the environment, transferring environmental awareness, preservation of resources and the protection of human health in Bahrain. The Campaign would contribute towards dissemination of environmental awareness within the local community, from schools through to universities, companies, institutions and factories.

The Campaign coincides with several other environmental initiatives during the month, which the Supreme Council for the Environment said would be a month to celebrate the environment. The theme this year was ‘work for a sustainable environment’ and included holding conferences, workshops and competitions those aim to talk about the goals of sustainable development in the environment and the importance of their implementation.

In Bahrain, the Campaign is being launched in schools as part of GPIC’s commitment to social responsibility, its mission to preserve the environment and contribution to the unlimited support of sustainable development. During the drive, the Company will plant 1,000 local trees at schools every year. The effort will complement other environmental programmes implemented by the Company in coordination with the Ministry.
