WELCOME TO
GPS
GLOBAL PREMIER SOCCER
GLOBAL PREMIER SOCCER Our Staff has given considerable time and commitment to create this document to share with you. Everyone at GPS has one common aim and that is to give each and every player the best possible chance of playing at the highest level of soccer they desire. The purpose of this brochure is to provide an insight (to existing GPS players and families, as well as those deciding whether GPS is for you) to the structure and organization of GPS. To be successful, every GPS player must give 100% at every practice and game that they participate in. Every GPS player must show dedication to their soccer education whilst ensuring their academic education does not suffer. For you to personally achieve your goals you must make sacrifices but it is of paramount importance that academic development is not neglected.
PETER BRADLEY
GPS DIRECTOR OF COACHING
We ask our players to practice whenever possible as each extra touch of the ball will make a difference. Repetition of key techniques is vital to your improvement and this does not alter with age. If you work hard, GPS will do all we can to give you the tools to reach your personal goals. Very little in life is achieved without hard work, sacrifice and perseverance - no matter how difficult the task may seem.
Our players must understand the GPS philosophy and the reasons why we endeavor to play with the style that we do. We have an identity that has taken a number of years to develop and we are proud to be respected for the way we play. We must always show respect in defeat as well as in victory and any such victory must be achieved by playing the GPS way. All GPS players are expected to respect their colleagues, opponents, officials, coaches and most of all themselves. Most importantly, play and train with enjoyment and intensity. There are always difficult decisions to be made in soccer and we will do all we can to make the correct one for each individual within our Club. No matter what the outcome may be, we want every player to remember their time at GPS with fondness and a sense of pride that they have represented us. May I take this opportunity of thanking you and your families for the support which you have given to GPS. I wish every single player the very best of luck in achieving their goals. Best wishes Peter Bradley, GPS Director of Coaching

STYLE OF PLAY
CONFIDENT GPS teams are built up of confident players. This confidence is created with self-belief, hard work, repetition and team camaraderie - all created in a positive coaching environment.
BUILD FROM THE BACK GPS teams always look to build attacks from the back as opposed to playing kick and run soccer.
POSSESSION-BASED GPS teams play an indirect style of soccer but have an awareness of the most appropriate penetrating pass.
ATTACK-MINDED GPS teams play the game with flair and creativity.
PHYSICALITY GPS teams excel in the physical element of the game - exhibiting pace and power. GPS teams are hard working, hard in the tackle but always play within the laws of the game.
DEFENSIVE PRESSURE GPS teams understand how and when to apply pressure in order to regain possession of the ball.
PROACTIVE GPS teams are soccer smart. Players are students of the game and are able to make adjustments based on what they see.

GPS JUNIOR PREMIER The GPS Junior Premier program is the first of two distinct phases of any GPS player’s development pathway. The first phase is for players aged between 9 & 12 years old and is split into three levels based on player ability – Elite, Select and Academy. It is important to remember that our emphasis is player-centric with player development the number one priority. At this stage, there is no emphasis on winning games. We focus on developing the technical, tactical, physical and psychological development of each individual player on their pathway towards reaching their full potential. The GPS Junior Premier program is a very important part of a young players’ development - the golden years of learning are between the ages of 5-11. It is vital that we look to develop and enhance the technical proficiency of all our players during these golden years. We also need to, as we progress through the ages, give the players the correct tactical information in terms of Team Shape, Working within Units in the Team Shape and Position Specific work (understanding roles and responsibilities within the team). All players in the GPS Junior Premier program will conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the GPS Premier Team player code of conduct and all players will be treated as equals.

GPS PREMIER The second phase is for players between 13 & 17 years and is split into three levels - Elite, Select & Academy. While player development is still paramount in the Premier program, this is the phase where the emphasis transitions to competing to win. At 13 to 15 years there is still a focus on developing players from a technical, tactical, physical and psychological standpoint. At 16 years and above, winning begins to play a larger role on gameday however the focus is not ‘winning at all costs’. All GPS teams will demonstrate the desire and ability to win while sticking to the club style of play - attractive, possession-based soccer. The winning tradition that has been established over the past decade is based on each player improving significantly over the time they are with the club. All players in the GPS Premier program will conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the GPS Premier Team player code of conduct and all players will be treated as equals.

RESIDENTIAL CAMPS
All GPS teams between U12 and U15 will attend 2 residential camps per year. Residential camps are an ideal opportunity for our coaches to spend quality time with their teams in a controlled environment. The time is used to address technical and tactical elements in order to prepare teams for their competitive season. It is also an opportunity for important on and off-field bonding - developing relationships with new team-mates and solidifying existing relationships. A typical day at residential camp will consist of: • • • • • • •
High tempo technical training session. Tactical training session. Fitness & conditioning session. Game play. Set play rehearsal. Team-building activities. Evening sessions will include indoor tournaments, soccer tennis & social interaction.

COMMUNICATION WITH GPS STAFF All personnel associated with GPS recognize that it is their duty to serve the best interest of their players. Staff are approachable to discuss issues of concern relating to the progress and welfare of all players. Parents should be mindful that they should not contact a Coach with an issue of concern at a match venue . Our Coaches will be actively involved in other duties at those times. Should parents wish to raise a concern with a Coach they should either telephone or email the Coach in order to arrange a suitable time for both parties to meet and discuss the issue. If after your discussion you are still not satisified the next step will be to contact the Regional Director of Coaching.

SOCCER EDUCATION AND WELFARE At GPS we strive to create a learning environment where young players can develop their football skills and understanding of the game under the guidance and tuition of highly qualified coaches and other relevant personnel. The performance of players is assessed regularly with all players receiving formal verbal and written feedback at the end of each season (Fall, Winter and Spring). We are mindful of the importance of a player’s commitment to academic development and we strive to support and encourage the individual to give his best and to succeed in his scholastic pursuits. We seek to ensure that participation in the activities of our programs will help all our young players to acquire good values, which will serve them well in the future be it in footbal,l or otherwise. Involvement with GPS will hopefully teach the players the importance of loyalty, dedication, diligence and respect for others. Our aim is to support the parents of our players in nurturing their social and inter-personal skills so that each child develops into a confident, courteous and assertive individual.
At GPS we are committed to providing a safe and caring environment for all our players and staff. The Club recognises its responsibility to ensure that all personnel associated with GPS, in whatever capacity, can expect to be embraced by a culture and environment whereby safety is paramount. We embrace a culture whereby we treat our players and encourage them to treat one another with dignity, respect, sensitivity and fairness, whatever their ethnicity, age, religion or background may be.
