Dear Division 30, For those who do not know me yet, my name is Grace Chon. I am currently a junior at White River High School but doing Running Start at Pierce. Several weeks ago, I was installed as the new Lieutenant Governor for Division 30 at the 62nd Pacific Northwest District Convention. First off, I would like to say thank you to Madeline Rubida, our Immediate Past Division 30 LtG. You have done so much for me, given me so much information, and I will remember the ride to Amtrak for sure. One of the best car rides of my life. I hope that everything goes well for you in the future and that you will do amazing things! I would also like to say thank you to my Key Club Advisor, Lynnette Nylund. She is the one who encouraged and supported me to run for LtG in the beginning. She has also been a wonderful Advisor. So to Madeline and Mrs. Nylund, Thank You! To the rest of my division- I look forward to meeting everyone in any way shape or form, whether it is a phone call or meeting you at your club meeting. This will be a fantastic year filled with fun moments, service projects and events, and helping better our own communities. I am very excited to be able to work with all of you. I have thought of many goals for our division. The most important of all would be to have a service project that includes all of the schools in our Division or to have a collaborative project with another Division. To have each club get “Early Bird” for DCON next year and to increase our Divisional attendance at DCON are some more goals that I have for this next year. To list all of the goals that I have thought of for this division would be lengthy so I’ll stop for now, until my next newsletter. 

A Letter from Our Immediate Past LtG,

Madeline Rubida Dear Division 30, Thank you for allowing me to serve you this past Key Club year as your Lieutenant Governor! Representing our Division has given me sooo many opportunities. I have been to DCON twice now, ICON, District Board Meetings, your club meetings, and our local Kiwanis meetings. I have had the best time of my life and I am so grateful to be a part of this amazing organization. I will miss Key Club after High School, but I am very thankful of what it has given me: memories and friendships. Good luck on this upcoming Key Club year, your new Lieutenant Governor Grace will take good care of you! Thank you so much again, GO DIVISION 30!!!

2011 PNW District Convention Recap

District Convention March 25-27th, 2011 was the date of the Pacific Northwest District Convention at the Double Tree Hotel in SeaTac, WA. There were about 1500 Key Clubbers in attendance from Alaska, Canada, Northern California, Oregon, Panhandle Idaho, and Washington. This year’s theme was “Go Wild for Service”. A big thank you to the 2010-2011 District Board for all of their hard work to make sure DCON happened! Although we didn’t have a large number of attendees like some other divisions, we all had spirit and enjoyed District Convention. It was nice to meet the new officers and hopefully you were able to meet a lot of new people. See you all soon at our DCM that is later on this month!

April Divisional Council Meeting (DCM)

For April, our DCM will be held at Starbucks in Sumner, WA at 6pm on April 22nd, which is a Friday. (15005 Main Street East Sumner, WA 98390) It is not the Starbucks in Fred Meyer, but the one next to Farrelli’s Pizza. Who can attend?

Since it is a Divisional Council Meeting, it is strongly encouraged that all officers attend (or at least one officer from each club). Jelly Board points will be given for officer attendance, extra points if all officers from a club are at the DCM, and for any members that also attend.

New and Exciting Things It’s the start of a new Key Club year and I’ve thought of some things that would be new to our Division. So look them over and let me know your opinions on them!

Divisional Mascot and Colors It was hard to think of a Divisional Mascot but the colors were simple. I came to the idea of the Division 30 Jellyfish with the divisional color of navy blue and a light purple or green. Let me know which colors you prefer!

The Jelly Board Our Division’s Divisional Council Meetings turn out good, but they usually have a small turn out for people. So I’ve decided to bring back our point system with an incentive for the winners from a past LtG of Division 30. More information on The Jelly Board is on page 11.

Something that Really Isn’t New I’d like to continue on with having a “Member of the Month”. I’ll create an application for it but it’ll mainly consist of a short paragraph or two of why this person deserves to be the “Member of the Month”. So if you have someone in your club in mind, nominate them! Just send me an e-mail of who and why. Each month’s winner will get a prize too!

Jelly Board What is this “Jelly Board”?

The Jelly Board is essentially a scoreboard for all of the clubs in our Division. Since it is something I’ve started for our Division, all of the Clubs are currently at 0 points. By the end of the Key Club year, all the Clubs should have enough points to determine a winner. The winning Club will receive a prize (I haven’t thought of one yet) and the members of that Club that attend my last DCM will also receive a prize! So be sure to do everything you can to get points and to look out in the next newsletter for the Scoreboard! 

Point Scale - DCM’s For every officer that attends…………………………………….+10 points For every member………………………………………………………..+5 points For full officer attendance………………………………………….+20 points For no officer or member representing their club……..-10 points - Contact Information First club to complete contact info…………………………….+50 points Completed contact info………………………………………………+30 points - Monthly Duties Secretary Report turned in on time…………………………..+25 points Secretary Report turned in late…………………………………+10 points Secretary Report not turned in…………………………………..-10 points At least one bulletin for the month……………………………+25 points Every bulletin afterwards…………………………………………..+10 points No bulletin for the month……………………………………………-10 points - DCON/ICON/Rallies/Divisional Projects Each Key Clubber attending DCON……………………………+10 points Each Key Clubber attending ICON…………………………….+25 points Each Key Clubber attending a Rally………………………….+10 points Each Key Clubber attending a Division Project…………+15 points There are and will be more opportunities to gain points for your clubs but as of now, this is all I’ll provide you with so it’s not a point system overload. 
