Call To Worship

Pastor Dr. Justin Peart (All standing. The Minister followed by responses of the people in bold.)

Lord our God, in whom we live, and move, and have our being, Have mercy upon us.

Lord, our God, you do not willingly bring affliction or grief to your children. Leave your peace with us.

Lord, our God you have raised Christ from death as the assurance that those who sleep in death will also be raised. Bless and comfort us, we humbly pray.

Our Savior has said: Whoever hears my words and believes the One who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has already passed from death into life. Savior of the world, lead us in paths of righteousness for your name’s sake.

Hymn

Joyful, Joyful

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee, Op’ning to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee, Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays, Stars and angels sing around Thee, Center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain, Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea, Singing bird and flowing fountain Call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest, Wellspring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest!

Thou our Father, Christ our Brother, All who live in love are Thine; Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the joy divine.

The Moravian Liturgy For Memorial Service

(All standing. The Minister followed by responses of the people in bold.)

My Brothers and Sisters, we do not live to ourselves and we do not die to ourselves. If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end, Christ died and lived again that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.

Living Redeemer, we find our hope in you.

As a father has compassion on his children, so God has compassion on those who honor Him; for He knows how we were formed, he remembers that we are dust. As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you, says the Lord. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, and sustains those who are bereaved. And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.

The steadfast love of The Lord lasts forever, and His goodness endures for all generations.

Hear some comforting words of scripture:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and to an inheritance which is imperishable, and unfading.”

1 Peter 1:3-4

“The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms.”

Deuteronomy 33:27

“He will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arms, he will carry them in his bosom.”

Isaiah 40:11

“We would not have you ignorant, brethren concerning those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Matthew 5:4

“I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:38-39

Let us pray:

Eternal God, accept us as your children in your beloved son, Jesus Christ, who came into the world from you, was born a human being, and lived among us. He took the role of a servant, and has redeemed us from all sin and from death, with His holy and precious blood, and with His innocent suffering and dying. Christ has done this so that we may be his own, live in His kingdom, and serve Him in eternal righteousness, innocence and happiness; since He, being risen from the dead, lives and reigns, forever and ever. Amen

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Heavenly Father, you love us with an everlasting love and can turn the shadow of death into the light of morning. Help us now to wait upon you with reverent and submissive hearts. In the silence of this hour, speak to us of eternal things, that with patience and the comfort of your holy Word we may embrace and hold fast the blessed hope of eternal life which you have given us in your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Psalm 23 (Happy Wanderer)

The Lord’s my shepherd, I shall not want:

He makes me down to lie In pastures green; He leadeth me The quiet waters by.

He lives, He Lives I know that my Redeemer lives He lives, He lives, He lives within my heart

My soul He doth restore again, And me to walk doth make Within the paths of righteousness, E’en for His own name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through death’s dark vale, Yet will I fear no ill: For Thou art with me, and Thy rod And staff me comfort still.

My table Thou hast furnished In presence of my foes; My head Thou dost with oil anoint, And my cup overflows.

Goodness and mercy all my life Shall surely follow me; And in God’s house for evermore My dwelling place shall be.

Prayer Pastor Dr. Justin Peart

(The Minister prays followed by responses of the people in bold.)

Let us pray:

Lord have mercy upon us, Christ have mercy upon us.

Lord have mercy upon us, Christ, hear us.

Lord God, Father, hear us as we pray

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation. but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory. for ever and ever. Amen.

By your human birth,

By your prayers and tears,

By your grief and anguish of your soul,

By your cross and suffering,

By your atoning death,

By your rest in the grave,

By your triumphant resurrection,

By your divine presence,

By your coming again to your church on earth, or our being called home to you. Bless and comfort us, Gracious Lord and God.

Lord God, Holy Spirit, Abide with us forever. Amen.

I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord. Those who believe in me will live, even though they die, and those who love and believe in me will never die. Therefore, blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. Yes, says the Spirit, they will rest from their labor. Where, death, is your victory? Where, grave, is your sting? It is sin which gives death its power, and it is the law which gives sin its strength. All thanks to God, who delivered us from the fear of death, the power of sin, and the condemnation of the Law. Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us pray for those who mourn. Heavenly Father, we pray for those who mourn. Comfort them in their sadness. Uphold them with your strong love. Help them to face the future without fear knowing that they and all whom they love are in your hands and that nothing in life, not even death itself, can separate anyone of us from your love in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Hymn And Can It Be

And can it be that I should gain

An interest in the Savior’s blood Died He for me, who caused His pain For me, who Him to death pursued?

Amazing love! How can it be That Thou, my God, should die for me?

Amazing love! How can it be That Thou, my God, should die for me?

He left His Father’s throne above

So free, so infinite His grace

Emptied Himself of all but love And bled for Adam’s helpless race Tis mercy all, immense and free For O my God, it found out me!

Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, should die for me?

Commendation

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature’s night Thine eye diffused a quickening ray I woke, the dungeon flamed with light My chains fell off, my heart was free I rose, went forth, and followed Thee Amazing love! How can it be That Thou, my God should die for me?

No condemnation now I dread Jesus, and all in Him, is mine Alive in Him, my living Head And clothed in righteousness divine Bold I approach the eternal throne And claim the crown, through Christ my own

Amazing love! How can it be

That Thou my God, should die for me?

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me I once was lost, but now I’m found Was blind but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear

And grace my fears relieved How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come

‘Tis grace that brought me safe thus far And grace will lead me home.

When we’ve been here ten thousand years

Bright, shining as the sun

We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we first begun.

As he sleeps blissfully, unaware that he has left us behind, let us first seek God’s comforting hands consoling us in this time of grief. Once that time has ended, let us think of Mathew-Jon with kindness and gratitude for his time with us and the positive impact that he has had on our lives.

The family of Mathew-Jon Alexander Gayle wishes to extend sincere appreciation and gratitude to all our friends and loved ones for the rich outpouring of love, prayerful support and assistance in our time of bereavement.

God bless you all. THANK YOU

There’s this child, he kind of stole my heart

It was a blessing in his life to be a part

Today I’m broken-hearted, the future looks grim

The bright light of my life has suddenly gone dim

A mother’s great love, her pride and joy

Now only precious memories of my darling little boy by

Lovingly submitted by Mom Dorette. Sleep in sweet, eternal peace, my beloved
