EMCO • European Music Campus Orchestra Founded in 2014 as part of the European Music Campus, this dynamic young orchestra brings together young musicians from Austria’s neighbouring countries in eastern and south-eastern Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as the hosting province of Lower Austria. Summer 2016 sees the EMCO perform in a Prélude concert on 6 August, with works by Glass, Schubert and Mahler under the baton of Peter Stark.
«Mahler, T he Complete Musican» Classical music lovers know Gustav Mahler as one of the greatest of all symphonic writers. But in appreciating his achievements as a composer, we can all too easily forget that he was arguably the last of a prodigious line of complete musicians: internationally recognised as a leading conductor, arranger, teacher, programmer, opera house director, general intellectual and writer. Mahler stands before us — in our age of impressive yet constricted specialism — as one of the most remarkable examples of the «complete» musician. The third edition of the European Music Campus takes the eclectic example of Mahler as an inspiration. During the summer of 2016, his music, his programmes, his relationship to his fellow composers, and — perhaps most of all — his meaning, are examined in a range of EMC events that not only explore his myriad achievements but also his relevance for today‘s world of music and musicians.
