The mail lake of the region is Lake Trasimeno, located in a central position to the art cities of central Italy, between Florence and Rome, close to places rich in history and culture as Siena, Arezzo, Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto and Gubbio. The area of the lake is composed of eight municipalities, some of which are perched on the hills (Citt‥ della Pieve, Paciano, Panicale and Piegaro) and others (Castiglione del Lago, Magione, Passignano sul Trasimeno Tuoro sul Trasimeno) directly facing the lake shores. Trasimeno LaKe gets its name from an Etruscan origin. Legend tells that Prince Trasimeno, son of the Etruscan king Tyrrhenian, met the nymph Agilla in these lands. They fell in a love that ended tragically with the death of the prince. Since then, the lake was named Trasimeno. And when the wind caresses the lake’s waters you can still hear the melancholy lament of the nymph Agilla crying in search of her beloved prince.
