COMMUNITY SPIRIT MARCH ISSUE: 02
MONTEM LEISURE CENTRE
OPEN DAY A SUCCESS Following its recent £500k refurbishment, the local community was invited to Montem Leisure Centre for an open day on Saturday 22nd February to have a look around and rediscover what is available at the centre. Visitors were able to take part in a number of free classes, which included, Dance Energy, Zumba Sentao and Body Blitz, as well as having a free FeelGood Factory trial. To give the day a real family feel, there were also free activities for the younger visitors including an obstacle challenge, jungle run and a bouncy castle. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone that attended and gave those who had maybe not used the centre for a while the chance to see how the venue has changed and the new facilities and classes that are now on offer.
WINTER GAMES ICE GALA AT ABSOLUTELY ICE In celebration of the recent Winter Olympics held in Sochi, Absolutely Ice held a charity Winter Games Ice Gala on Wednesday 19th February raising £317 for local group SPICE (Special People on Ice). The gala featured solo and group performances from some of Slough’s top ice-skating talent. Once the show had ended, the audience was invited to take to the ice for a free skating session. As Absolutely Ice’s coaches are all NISA (National Ice Skating Association) approved, they are encouraging those that were inspired by Sochi 2014 to take up ice-skating to get in contact and learn using the Skate UK training programme.
