MONTHLY UPDATES B O A R D

P R E S I D E N T

GETTING TO KNOW YOU Bob Aiken President Sun City Grand Board of Directors

O

ne of our Board goals this year is to increase Board interaction with our community and become more visible in our attempt to support our stated Mission and Vision statements. This may be interpreted in several ways, yet the main focus will be to increase interaction between the Board of Directors and our fellow residents. Coming out of the two-year Covid “cloud” strengthens our resolve to follow through in accomplishing this important goal. Many should remember that the Board of Directors are residents, with similar needs and wants of every resident. The only difference is that we all agreed to visibly support and commit time to the success of Grand. I asked each Board member to submit two examples they would suggest we consider doing to help with this endeavor. Some fun suggestions were returned. I need to remember to be more cautious when asking for suggestion from this team…. Some suggestions were: n

An Ice Cream Social where residents who provided one idea into a “Suggestion Box” would receive a free scoop of ice cream along with a buffet of toppings with Board Members as servers. Suggestions would be gathered and reported either at an upcoming workshop or a special meeting.

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

Quarterly “Get to Know Your Board” meetings at different venues. We enjoyed the May 19th gathering very much and received some valuable suggestions from residents. We all agree such an event deserves repeating.

with donations delivered to the Palm Center on Super Bowl Sunday prior to the game. Donated product would be transported to the West Valley Food Back by the Food Bank’s transport team. Board members would greet and thank participating residents. Perhaps have competition by neighborhoods within Grand with our Neighborhood Reps involved as well. This could become an annual event supporting those in need.

Bring back “Wine Down Wednesdays”. This was a repeated suggestion from this Board! Hold Monthly “Fireside Chats” prior to scheduled Board Workshops. (Similar, yet less frequent than past years’ chats.) “Speed Meeting”, similar to “Speed Dating” where a Board member sits at a table of eight and residents are asked to move every five minutes or so. This sounds similar to the popular “Meet the Candidates” held in past Board Elections. Of course, a cash bar and snacks would be available. Someone would have to take notes!!! Schedule weekly “Board Office Hours” at the same time and location so residents will know where to go to give praise and kudos (just kidding, kind of…) to those Board members attending. Good idea, and very similar to the Fireside Chat. Charitable Event to support a local charity. Silent auction items secured by Board members through local businesses. Include a “Dunk Tank” featuring Board members, a fortuneteller booth, and other contests where residents beat Board members. Lot’s of possibilities. Burgers and Brats served by Board members. Tips to charity. Super Bowl Food Drive: Promote food drive following the Holidays

Grand Lifestyles | July 2022 | suncitygrand.com

n

“Get to Know Your Board Members”: A Board member would provide a short(?) bio for the Lifestyle Magazine each month and explain where they are from, how long they have lived here, and what they enjoy most about Grand. I would attempt to coordinate the scheduling of such articles with the timing of events each member is working on.

While we have not met to determine which topics would best serve our residents, I will admit the desire to attempt all. Watch for announcements coming soon as we begin the process to schedule several of these activities. If one or more of these particularly resonate with you – let me know. We want to do things you would enjoy. As communications is a two-way process, please make sure you have signed up to receive the “News of The Day” on the Grand website by going to your profile and making the appropriate edits. This will only help us be successful in keeping all residents informed of any activity planned. Stay well, Keep Moving, and Be Kind to Others Bob Aiken, President

FROM GOLF OPERATIONS

THE SCIENCE OF n

n

ON THE GOLF COURSE

n

n

Jeff Hochman Assistant General Manager

When Sun City Grand was built and was actively selling homes, the key focus for the golf courses was to have the best winter conditions and hold onto the ryegrass as long as possible into the warmer summer months. This plan worked well to help sell the homes quickly and to have the ryegrass “hang on” longer to have better playing conditions longer into the summer months. This plan proved to be negative in the long run for the health of the base grass; Bermuda grass.

Every year this practice was done, it was depriving the Bermuda grass of the opportunity to have 100 days of noncompetitive growth which started to weaken the base. In 2008, it was the year that the Bermuda grass “gave up” and the conditions in the fairways were poor. It was at that time the Sun City Grand Board of Directors accepted the plan that was presented to them by staff to put as much emphasis on summer golf as is put on winter golf. The plan included the following which include some modifications that were changed over time to improve the process. n Remove the winter ryegrass with a selective herbicide. This would remove all of the competition for the Bermuda grass and show all of the weak areas on the golf courses. n Close the courses for 3 weeks each and treat them just like a fall overseeding.

3/4 inch solid tines that were bent or split during the beginning years of the summer transition program.

10

n

n

n

Staff would aerify the golf course pulling cores. An outside contractor would then deep tine the fairways with ¾ inch solid tines. The ground was so hard the first couple of years that the tines would bend or snap. Staff spreads 35 tons of sand per acre on the fairways to build them up to create a better growing condition for Bermuda grass. Put down sod in areas that have no sign of Bermuda grass growth in a 100 square foot area. This was about an acre or more of sod per golf course when the program first started and there are almost no areas today that fit the original criteria for sodding. Remain on cart paths only for 3 weeks to allow the grass to fill in. (Treat the summer transition similar to the fall transition.) Double aerify and heavily top-dress the greens to create less interruptions during the summer golf when this practice needs to be done. In the fall, reduce the amount of seed from 700 pounds per acre in the fairways to 550 and the roughs would go from 450 to 350. This would create some off color but would be less stressful to the Bermuda grass.

The plan has been working as planned

A healthy mixture of sand and organic matter now resides above the native soil in the fairways, resulting in better playability and a healthier rootzone.

August 2008

July 2009

July 2010

July 2011

July 2012

Late June 2013

As conditions improve, it is easy to forget the struggles faced five years ago. Extensive sodding was needed in 2008 on No. 8 Cimarron to provide bermuda grass coverage prior to overseeding. Chronological photographs show that conditions improved in the first few years and have leveled off. The next step will be to improve irrigation uniformity.

and the summer transition continues to improve each year. Staff continues to work closely with the United States Golf Association (USGA) on updated practices to continue to improve. The USGA comes out every year to evaluate the courses and they are very happy with the success of the program. All golf courses in the Southwest go through transition 2 times a year, the Fall and the Summer. Each course goes through the summer one at different times which can affect their playability/ look of when you are playing it. Many things go into how well a course transitions. n Proper irrigation (head spacing, nozzles, low heads, pressure, water quality) n Course traffic/play in the winter months n Types of Bermuda grass n Overseeding practices n Weather The staff appreciates your patience and support as this necessary work is performed for the long term success of the golf program.

We are looking for SCG men and women volunteers to help with Vacation Watch and Evening Patrol. We will supply vehicles and training. Call (CAM) 623-546-7432 or the C.H.A.P.S. office 623-546-7553 and leave a message if you are interested in joining us! You may also find more information about C.H.A.P.S. (including an application form to join) at suncitygrand.com – volunteer central – C.H.A.P.S. Resident Patrol

PATROLLING OUR NEIGHBORHOODS Submitted by Dennis Hanscom C.H.A.P.S. member

for homeowners to use this program: (1) homeowner must be away for a minimum of two weeks; (2) a keyholder must be identified on the request form. C.H.A.P.S.* volunteers will walk around the home checking for unlocked doors, unlocked or broken windows, etc. The goal is to make the house look occupied. When an irregularity is found, the designated keyholder will be notified. C.H.A.P.S.* does not report homeowner violations to the Standards Office.

As I scratch my head for new subject content for specifics that deal with open garage doors, malfunctioning street lights, and inspecting homes for unlocked doors and windows, I seem to have drawn a blank for this edition so I will try to draw a picture of how it is determined where we patrol. Sun City Grand has 9,800 homes. We have the community divided into 6 zones. We have one volunteer assigned to our office desk as a Dispatcher or Coordinator and he or she determines which zones to cover on any given day or night. We have 3A zones and 3B zones. Since we only have a maximum of 3 teams going out on one day, only 3A zones get covered, and the next day 3B zones will be covered. Each zone is approximately 25 miles and it will be covered within the 2 hours our volunteers have signed up for. The “zone method” is used by Evening Patrol. During the daytime for Vacation Watch, things are handled differently because the duties are different. The coordinator at our office desk assigns a zone notebook that holds all of the houses signed up for our Vacation Watch program. They are filed according to the named subdivisions within Grand. We try to check these vacation homes once per week. When a batch of new sign-ups (homes to be checked

by our Vacation Watch group for the first time) are turned into our office, those homes are placed into a separate notebook and given the highest priority to be checked by the very next volunteer group going out to check vacation homes. These homes are aways high priority because those are the homes we generally find an unlocked window or door very soon after the homeowner has departed. The keyholder is then called and the home is secured ASAP. Now, to explain the two main functions of your C.H.A.P.S.* volunteers:

VACATION WATCH When residents are away from home for two weeks or more, they are encouraged to fill out a Vacation Watch form which is available in the Welcome Center and the Membership Office at the Palm Center, as well as online at suncitygrand.com. Completed forms are to be returned to the Membership Office in the Palm Center. Two criteria are required

EVENING PATROL During evening hours, volunteers patrol our streets in Association vehicles to observe and report unusual activity. The volunteers look for breaches of security such as open garage doors, suspicious vehicles and/or people. Street light outages and road hazards will be reported to the proper authorities. TO VOLUNTEER We are actively looking for new volunteers. All residents are welcome! We will provide classroom and field training. There are two-person patrols where you select your days/evenings to volunteer and you select how many times each month you wish to volunteer. Call Carol Murr (CAM) 623-546-7432 or the C.H.A.P.S.* office (623) 546-7553 if you may be interested in joining us. Our next meeting is Tuesday, July 26th at 1:30 p.m. in the Palms/Palo Verde Room at the Sonoran Plaza. All homeowners are welcome to join us.

*C.H.A.P.S.: Community Homeowner Association Patrol Service C.H.A.P.S. MEETS THE 4TH TUESDAY EVERY MONTH (except December) AT 1:30 P.M. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH C.H.A.P.S. Grand Lifestyles | July 2022 | suncitygrand.com

How Being

Kind Makes You Healthier You probably know that treating someone else well has a positive effect by helping them feel valued and supported. But did you know that making kindness a regular habit is good for your health and it even slows your body’s aging process? You begin to produce “happy chemicals” like dopamine and oxytocin and serotonin more often, which increases your positive feelings and well-being, and enhances social connections, and relationships. Even small acts of kindness such as smiling and saying “thank you” can give your

immune system a boost and make you more resilient. Random acts of kindness can make us feel grateful. Being nice to others is one of the easiest, most inexpensive ways to keep anxiety at bay. Being kind regularly gets easier as you do it. Be alert to opportunities. We often miss these because we have too much on our minds. It’s easy to become overwhelmed by negativity in the world and this has an adverse effect on our health. If you find yourself becoming annoyed or angry, take a deep breath. Acting calmly will not only reduce stress but

will likely help you to resolve the situation more easily. You can practice kindness as you go about your day and see what a difference it makes over time. And don’t overlook the power of kind interactions with strangers or those you don’t know well. Often these opportunities are the ones that mean the most, both to you and your recipient. When we help others, we become more aware of the blessings in our own lives. And remember . . .

FROM THE GARDEN CLUB

Grand Collaborates on a Butterfly Garden

to Help Save the Monarchs Christine Bertrand Correspondent for Sun City Grand Garden Club

You might have noticed recent news coverage about monarch butterflies, citing dwindling to almost nonexistent populations. “What’s all the fuss?” you might think. During our childhoods, we admired the beauty of monarch butterflies flitting from flower to flower on a summer’s day. Yet, in the last two decades, 90% of Eastern monarchs and 99% of Western monarchs have disappeared, according to the National Wildlife Foundation (NWF). Not just beautiful to look at, monarchs are also an important pollinator. More than 90 percent of all plants need a pollinator in order to set fruit and seeds. Though not as critical to crop pollination as bees, butterflies play a vital role in overall pollination and are also considered an “indicator species” pointing to the health of our ecosystems. The cause of the monarchs’ decline appears to be multifaceted, as most things are. According to Center for Biologic Diversity (CBD), advancing urbanization, pesticide use, climate change, logging destruction of winter habitat, and general habitat fragmentation are behind the population crash. In addition, monarchs completely depend on ONE plant, the milkweed. Monarchs lay their eggs only on milkweed, and their caterpillars feed only on milkweed, so they are supremely

susceptible to anything that reduces milkweed availability. In recent years, NWF has initiated an action plan to re-establish healthy monarch habitats in North America, including a Mayor’s Pledge program. According to the NWF, more than 1,000 City Mayors, including the Mayors of Mesa, Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Tucson, signed the ‘Monarch Pledge.’ As a result, millions of people have worked to restore or enhance more than 8,000 acres of monarch habitat. The NWF pledge includes 30 recommended options/ actions communities can take to save the butterflies, primarily focused on planting milkweed and nectar plants in monarchfriendly locations, especially those visible to the community. The US Dept. of Fish and Wildlife is also involved, restoring thousands of acres of monarch habitat.

Dr. Kim Pegram from the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG) to attend our May meeting and talk about monarchs and the Botanical Garden’s “Great Milkweed Grow Out.” We learned that monarchs in Arizona contribute to both the Eastern monarch stream, which migrates to central Mexico every winter, and the Western monarchs, which migrate to California. Thus, Arizona butterflies contribute to the gene pool of both populations and help to keep the species healthy. WWW.ddbg.org/ milkweed.

Butterfly Garden Established in Grand Due to the Club’s interest, the Desert Botanical Garden offered us 65 one-gallon plants of Arizona milkweed and nectar source plants that they had propagated. This set the ball rolling on a collaboration of the Garden Club, CAM, Jim Kauth of Aqua Trac, and Gothic Landscape to establish an enticing Monarch habitat on the grounds of our community. When the plant donations from DBG

The campaign seems to be working; the annual counts of overwintering butterflies in California recently increased from 2,000 to 248,000. They still have a long way to go before the species is secure.

Garden Club Speaker from the Desert Botanical Garden This spring, Grand’s Garden Club invited

FROM THE GARDEN CLUB became available, Jim Kauth, Grand’s ‘water steward,’ and Keith Effertz, a Gothic supervisor, began working to develop a new habitat area to support local and migrating monarchs. The new, recently planted, Butterfly Garden is located behind the Palm Center at the south end of the patio. Monarchs need a water source, as well as milkweed and nectar plants, and the lake is nearby. A shaded bench at the of the pathway will make a great location to sit and admire the view .. and the butterflies!

What can you do to help? Can Grand residents help to save the Monarchs? Yes, individual Grand residents can plant milkweed in their home landscapes; we can grow nectar plants for butterflies to feed on; and we can avoid spraying herbicides and pesticides that

full sun, is hardy to at least 20 F degrees, and once established, will tolerate long periods of drought.. and butterflies love it! The Garden Club has asked ARC to add all species of native milkweed and several other butterfly friendly plants to the list of approved plants.

Desert Milkweed (Asclepias subulata)

kill caterpillars and butterflies. For more information on having a butterfly friendly yard, visit the Desert Botanical Garden web site dbg.org/milkweed and NWF’ 07-SW_Monarch_Plant_List_spread.ashx (nwf.org). Before you plant, remember to consult our Approved Plant List, and that ARC requires you to notify them when adding approved plants to your yard. Desert Milkweed (Asclepias subulata) is currently on the SCG approved plant list. It is one of the hardiest plants you can have in your landscape; it loves hot areas with

COMMUNITY LIFE SAFETY EDUCATION DIVISION

The Garden Club is planning to propagate milkweed plants and distribute them to Club members and interested community members, once they are large enough to plant out. If you want to plan a larger project an ARC application requires a bit more information prior to planting. If help is needed, you can reach out to Chris Bertrand at SCG Garden Club for assistance Chris@ BertrandOnline.com. It’s going to take a lot of work to save the monarchs but even a few individuals in a small community can make a difference. We are off to a great start here in Grand. We hope you enjoyed reading about our efforts and will want to get involved.

You are the MVP of our TEAM!

PHIL AXELROD

Meets 12 times on Tue 6/14- 8/30 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM FEE $30

Let's meet weekly to discuss the current events of the day. Be prepared to actively participate as we debate the pros and cons of the topics selected by the group. Each participant is encouraged to bring an item or topic currently in the public's eye. We are not limited to political items for discussion. At the beginning of each session, I will poll the group for topics. Once we have a complete list we will vote on all topics and the one garnering the most votes will be the first topic discussed at each meeting. Lively discussions will ensue, followed by resolutions. If you enjoy brisk and vigorous debate, this is the group for you.

UKULELE 101 JONI DEE

westerns than you can imagine from Hopalong Cassidy and The Lone Ranger to Gunsmoke and Bonanza; and children’s programming, both animated and live action, like Howdy Doody, Disneyland, The Mickey Mouse Club and Rocky and Bullwinkle. But we’ll also consider a few series that probably most of you have never even heard of like Martin Kane, Private Eye and Rocky King, Inside Detective. You won’t just be teased by a few seconds of clips of each series but will see anywhere from a few minutes to as much as 25-30 minutes of many. For about half the series we will be playing Name that Tune to see if you can identify the series from its theme music; for just about every series, we will be asking trivia questions regarding the characters, the performers who played them and the like; and in about half the classes we will quiz you on some of your favorite commercials from the Golden Age.

60’S ROCK: CREAM

Meets 6 times on Tue 6/14 - 7/19 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM FEE $30

Ukulele 101 students will be introduced to the Ukulele, instrument care; Ukulele chords, strums, and picking patterns. By the end of class students will be comfortable playing 3 to 4 chord songs in different genres. Please bring a notebook and ukulele. I have some ukuleles to lend out.

EVERYTHING YOU MUST KNOW BEFORE GOING SOLAR MICHAEL SHEPP

Meets 1 time on Thur 7/14 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM FEE $10

Knowledge is power. Learn everything you must know before you ever invite a home solar installer into your home. Seniors are the target of scams and fraudulent solar installers. Presented by the home solar instructor with Rio Salado College along with PORA. By the end of this class you will be more knowledgeable than a solar salesman!

VINNIE BRUNO

Meets 1 time on Thur 8/4 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM FEE $15

Get out of the heat this summer and join Vinnie Bruno for the premiere of 60’s Rock: Cream, his newest lecture. Cream was formed in 1966 and is widely regarded as rock's first supergroup. We will journey with the band through their early days as members of many blues bands as they move toward the formation of Cream. Cream's music spanned many genres including hard rock (Sunshine of Your Love), psychedelic rock (White Room) to blues rock (Crossroads). Their album "Wheels of Fire" became the first platinum-selling double rock album in history. We will follow the band through their infamous internal band conflicts, to their farewell concert and to the trio's widely anticipated reunion tour in 2005. Cream was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

THOSE WERE THE DAYS: THE GOLDEN AGE OF TELEVISION, PART 1 STEVE KATZ

Meets 10 times on Wed 6/22 - 8/24 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM FEE $30

This will be the first of 3 semesters of more than everything you ever wanted to know about 50’S TELEVISION—it will be the ultimate nostalgia class with more trivia that any retiree’s brain can handle. You think you know 50’s TV trivia? We’ll see! We’ll of course look at the classics with which you are all familiar: variety shows like Texaco Star Theater, Your Show of Shows and Toast of the Town; sitcoms like I Love Lucy, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver, Father Knows Best and The Honeymooners; early quiz shows like What’s My Line and I’ve Got a Secret and later big money quiz shows like The $64,000 Question and Twenty-One which ended in grand jury probes and congressional investigations; more Grand Lifestyles | July 2022 | suncitygrand.com

CHESS

Tucked away in Sun City Grand, three times a week for four hours each day, we play CHESS and forget about everything else. It’s true, while playing Chess with us, you think only of chess, an inexpensive (no membership fees), and calorieburning activity (yes, it’s true, you burn lots of calories playing Chess). There’s something more about the game, win or lose; and we’d like to share it with you. You’ll need to know the basics as we won’t be spending too much time teaching, but we are welcoming and friendly to everyone, Bobbie and Bobby Fishers, even if you aren’t Bobby Fischer. So, check us out, Mate. Just show up, with or without a board and pieces, and be ready for a rewarding escape. We usually meet at Cimarron at 11:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays, and the Sago Room at the Palm Center on Fridays. This could change, so call us first at 623-293-2884 for Paula, or 203-979-1194 for Marty. CRIBBAGE

We play in the Pima Room at Chaparral Center every Tuesday from 9 to 11:30AM. We collect $4 to play which is awarded back to the winners. You are invited to play twice as our guest and if you

SOUND & LIGHTING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO KEEP THE GRAND’S ENTERTAINMENT “BEST IN CLASS”

The Sun City Grand Music Club and Drama and Comedy Club justifiably receive accolades for the many fine musical, dramatic and comedy shows that they bring to our stages each year. But it’s true for any live entertainment venue – the shows are only as good as the sound and lighting teams make them. We are currently looking for residents who want to practice their existing skills or learn new ones for the upcoming season starting in the Fall 2021. And the best part is absolutely no prior experience or knowledge is required. We will train anyone who is interested in learning the lighting and sound systems. With the many performances we are planning well into 2022, and the different roles each require, there will be much need for more trained technical people. This is a great way to learn some new skills and become a member of the Grand’s entertainment team. If you have ever wanted to be a part of Live Theater, this is your opportunity. Now that we are returning to a full schedule of performances, the need is even greater for more people to join our lighting and sound teams. For more information, contact Larry Dirksen – 623-363-5040 (Sound); or Bob Nix – 623-214-8280 (Lighting)

ASK CAPPIE THE COMPUTER CAT

SMARTWATCH & TRACKERS Dear Cappie, Is a smartwatch just another name for fitness tracker? They both tell time and tell you how many steps you take each day so is there really any difference? Which would be better for me to buy? Confused Jackie

You are correct that there is a lot of overlap between smartwatches and fitness trackers, which means there is no definitive answer as to which is better. Many fitness trackers have expanded beyond just tracking health and exercise (steps per day, types of exercise, pulse rate, sleep patterns, blood pressure, oxygen levels, etc.). Meanwhile, many smartwatches have added health apps to track steps per day, distance covered, heart rate, calories burned, pulse rate, etc. Just about every smartwatch today is also a fitness tracker, but not many fitness trackers are smartwatches. The basic answer for which is best for you is to start with the question: do you want a smartwatch? If not, look for a fitness tracker. A smartwatch is a miniaturized version of a smartphone. With a smartwatch you can receive and reply to texts, answer phone calls (cellular model), get directions, view maps, email, and, depending on other apps installed, do other social media updates. It’s like having your phone on your wrist. Smartwatches have advanced features like music control and built-in Bluetooth (to connect to wireless headphones), builtin mics for calls and voice assistant, and NFC for on-thego payments. They also come in cellular models, which allow

them to operate independently from the smartphone (so you can leave it at home). Note that smartwatches are available for either an Android or Apple operating system, both of which offer most of the same health fitness apps. The Apple Watch is the only smartwatch that runs the Apple OS (operating system) so you must have an iPhone if you purchase an Apple Watch. However, there are many different types of Android smartwatches that run Google’s Wear OS. In addition, a Wear OS watch allows you to load apps that run independently of your phone. You need to check. Some smartwatches have features that work only when paired with a compatible phone, e.g., you can answer calls only if you have a phone with a similar operating system.

GPS, blood oxygen, ECG, color touchscreen, etc.). The most affordable smartwatches, on the other hand, run from $200 to $400+, like the Fitbit Versa 2 ($180), Samsung Galaxy Watch4 ($249), or Apple Watch Series 7 (from $399). Depending on size of the watch, the materials used, type of wrist band, and if it’s a cellular model, the prices can get substantially higher. Fitness trackers tend to have better battery life than smartwatches and can last several days to several weeks on one charge. Most smartwatches require to be charged daily.

View the digital version of “Ask Cappie” monthly column by going to www. grandinfo.com. Click on the More News>Grand Lifestyles Magazine> to choose the month you want to view. Special thanks to Bob and Joanna Hays for sharing their photo adorable cats, Phoebe and Steve (long haired).

Which device to buy depends on your specific needs and on how much you want to spend. Do you primarily want to track health and fitness, or do you want a smartphone on your wrist? Is budget an issue?

Fitness trackers have been around longer than smartwatches due to their one specific goal (tracking your health) and their ease of use. Generally, fitness trackers are less expensive than smartwatches: most fitness trackers can be purchased for $29 to $250--but there are exceptions--the Garmin Fitness Tracker, for example, costs about $600. Usually, the more you pay for a fitness tracker, the more options it has (basic fitness tracking vs
