A very warm welcome

03

We want your child’s time at our school to be happy, exciting and educational. We believe that learning should be fun and that by encouraging respect for each other and valuing the opportunities available, we all grow and learn together. Across all years in the primary phase, teaching is good or outstanding. This was confirmed in our latest Ofsted inspection (November 2013). Pupils enjoy the wide range of stimulating activities that are planned to challenge and promote their learning. Pupils make at least good progress in the primary phase. By the end of Year 6, attainment is either in line with or above national averages.

A school for the 21st century

05

As a school for ages 3 to 16, set in the heart of the community of Runcorn, we provide outstanding provision for nursery, primary and secondary age children in a superb brand new building. We offer a secure, caring and nurturing environment where we seek the key to success for all our learners to unlock their potential and enable them to attain the highest possible levels of performance. Primary pupils have attractive classrooms and play areas in their own part of the school. Our pupils are proud of their school and talk very positively about all aspects of school life. They relish the high expectations that are set for them and value the help and support they receive. Pupils and students throughout the school are polite and friendly. The behaviour and attitudes to learning of the pupils in the primary phase is outstanding.

Teaching and Learning for our Youngest Pupils

07

At the Grange School Nursery we provide a high quality nursery education in a happy, secure and caring environment in which children are safe, stimulated and happy. We recognise the uniqueness of each child and aim to support their individual needs and circumstances; as well as those of their families. Developing self-esteem and a sense of responsibility to others and the world around them, we work in partnership with parents and carers to give children the very best start in life. We are a 52 place nursery offering free entitlement for 3 and 4 year old children from all areas of Runcorn. We also have excellent partnerships with other local schools to which some of our children transfer at the end of their time in nursery.

Our school, our vision, your future

09

Although most of our children have followed the Grange pathway from our own Nursery, some transfer from other Pre-school settings in Runcorn. All children are welcomed into the Grange community and we look forward to a happy and successful association with your family over the coming years. The Grange is an inclusive school where every child follows a personalised pathway to success. We aspire to standards of excellence in everything we do. Every pupil is expected to learn and succeed in an environment of mutual respect for themselves and others. We want all our pupils to develop into responsible, capable and caring citizens of the future.

A broad and balanced curriculum

11

In the primary phase, the curriculum encourages a thirst for knowledge and a love of learning. Pupils are appropriately challenged and the content of lessons is interesting and lively. We plan lessons to match the needs and abilities of all pupils and provide a broad and balanced curriculum. Consistently good and outstanding teaching in the primary phase enables pupils to make good and sometimes outstanding progress. Teachers are highly skilled and sometimes inspirational; they engage, motivate and challenge pupils and consequently they are keen to learn.

Being involved in extra-curricular activities allows our pupils the opportunity to experience a diverse range of activities, these include; • Educational trips and visits, both locally and further afield. • Theatre groups, dance companies and artists who come into the school to perform for and work with our pupils. • All children have the opportunity to take part in an annual Health week and a variety of sports events. • KS2 pupils compete against other teams in sports tournaments and interschool matches. • A wide range of extra-curricular clubs, both before and after school.

Parents as Partners

15

We are very much aware that you as parents are the main educators of your children. Since over 70% of a child’s life is spent, not in school, but with their family and the wider community, we recognise that parents can greatly enhance their child’s development and learning. We work hard to build successful relationships between home and school and we try to provide as many opportunities for parents to share in the educational experience. Parents are often invited to join lessons and to attend school performances and special assemblies. Children are regularly given homework, appropriate to their age and this helps them to make good progress. Sharing and reading books with your child is vital at any age and we very much value your support with this and all other homework tasks. We also value contributions from our Parents Forum meetings. These meetings take place each term and give parents an opportunity to take an active role in school life, sharing their ideas and taking part in fundraising events.

Next Steps As an all-through, 3-16 years school we can provide a smooth and successful transition between the different stages of your child’s education. Our staff work hard together to create a learning environment which strives for excellence and which celebrates the achievements of everyone in our school community. We are pleased with the way in which the former Nursery, Infant and Junior schools have successfully joined together to provide continuity for children from ages to 3 to 11. This smooth transition now continues into the Secondary phase of our school. We are committed to achieving the very best for your child. We would like to join with you in the next stages of your child’s development and we hope you will feel welcome in school and take every opportunity to be involved.
