Dear Friends, Welcome to the Laredo International Fair and Exposition – a tradition that, thanks to you, continues to bring together thousands to our city each year for a week of fun! This year we are celebrating our 53rd year— and what a ride it has been! Over the decades, countless community volunteers and local businesses have worked together to bring you closer to our county’s agricultural heritage, all while offering our famous schedule of rides, food, craft vendors, entertainers, bands, and home arts competitions. For many area residents, this is the kind of unique event where young adults, parents, and grandparents have been coming together every year. As you walk the grounds this year, be sure to look for our volunteers and let them know what you think. We want to hear from you! On behalf of the board of trustees and the volunteers of this great organization, I hope you enjoy your visit! Respectfully yours, Roy M. Lanier 2016 L.I.F.E. President

pring is just around the corner but it’s starting to feel just like it. So grab your boots and cowboy hat and start celebrating at this year’s fair. The Laredo International Fair and Exposition, better known as LIFE, rolls into town March 1-5, 2016 at LIFE Downs. This Laredo tradition celebrates its 53rd year, highlighting the best in animal husbandry, auctions, thrilling rides and some of the best music around. This year LIFE features top entertainment like Marcos Orozco, Dean Seltzer, Kyle Park, Eric y su Grupo Ma$$ore and La Calma! Hundreds of students from the community and beyond convene to showcase their prized livestock. Calves, hogs, goats, sheep, rabbits and various forms of fowl compete to see who will take home the coveted blue ribbon in their particular categories. One of The Fair’s highlights is its auction which historically has raised in the upper thousands of dollars and determines which of the prized animals will bring home

the coveted top award. LIFE holds the reputation for having one of the top leading auction payouts. Livestock aren’t the only items being judged The competition is just as fierce when it comes to baking, sewing and canning. This is where creativity really comes into play as some of the most intricate outfits and delectable foods have taken the top prize. Education also plays a key role at LIFE, as the fair offers students a chance to experience a Rainforest and learn about dairy farms. The students, themselves, take their turn in educating yougsters about the particular farm and ranch animals they have raised For many local children, LIFE presents them a rare opportunity to get an up close and personal look at cattle, goats, sheep, hogs and rabbits. Presiding this year as LIFE Queen is Sarah Renee Hagy. Load up the wagon, hitch the team and head on out to this years LIFE!

I
have been attending the Laredo International Fair and Exposition for as long as I can remember. I have always enjoyed the experience and am honored to be the 2016 L.I.F.E. Queen. I began attending the fair to watch, as my older brother showed his livestock projects. I loved having the opportunity to come out to see all of the animals and watch as people competed for Grand Champion. In the third grade I was able to be a part of the fair and began my show career at L.I.F.E. with rabbits, then hogs, and I even competed in the bake-off a few times.
A lot of people have helped me throughout my years at L.I.F.E. and I appreciate all that they have taught me. They have lead me through the challenges of raising livestock, and helped establish a sense of hard work and determination within me. I have learned more about working with animals hands on at L.I.F.E. than I believe any textbook could teach someone. The people at L.I.F.E., in my 4-H club, and many other volunteers have helped shape me into the person I am today. I will always be grateful for all they have done for me. Showing animals at L.I.F.E. has taught me the value of raising livestock. I have learned so much about what it takes to care for my animals and work to achieve my livestock showing goals. Through L.I.F.E., I have also learned the responsibility it takes to prepare an animal on show day, and all the fun and emotions that come with showing livestock. Through the years showing at L.I.F.E., I have laughed, cried, been overwhelmed, and just in aw from all the events that have taken place. Showing at L.I.F.E. has given me experiences I will never forget and would not trade for anything. In the future, I hope to be able to return to Laredo to watch the fair as it continues to grow. I look forward to helping the younger members in my 4-H club and my family as they continue participating in L.I.F.E. and enjoying all of the wonderful things it has to offer.
