WELCOME TO GREATER MIDLAND SUMMER CAMPS! Every summer nearly 3,000 campers attend Greater Midland Summer Camps. Campers have the opportunity to create lasting friendships and have outstanding hands-on learning experiences. Greater Midland Summer Camp provides an energetic setting, where every unique personality can explore their individual interests and connect with well-trained, caring counselors.

OUR CAUSE

Greater Midland Summer Camps strive to provide opportunities for campers to gain independence, participate in hands-on learning experiences, improve their self-confidence and create lasting friendships in a safe and nurturing environment.

OUR STAFF

Our Camp staff are selected based on their strength in youth development and areas of interest. Counselors are dedicated to working with campers to improve their self-esteem, social skills, and independence. Each season all camp staff participate in 30+ hours of training where they learn how to best engage, teach, and supervise campers. All camp staff are thoroughly background checked. • CPR & AED

SAFETY AT CAMP

Greater Midland Summer Camps are dedicated in ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all campers. To ensure the highest of standards we follow strict state licensing regulations, and continually review our camper health, wellness and safety procedures. Low staff-camper ratios allow counselors to focus on keeping your camper safe and engaged throughout their camp experience.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Our sliding fee financial assistance program ensures that all children have an opportunity to attend our Summer Camps. Applications for Sliding Fee assistance are available at the Welcome Center help desk. Funding is provided through the United Way of Midland County & individual donations.

PARENT INFORMATION: REGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 1ST!

Register your camper at the Greater Midland Community Center Welcome Center. Or register online at: GREATERMIDLAND.ORG/CAMPS Registration is limited and will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Our camps fill up quickly, we encourage parents to register early.

PAYMENT INFORMATION:

Camp slots will be held with a $25 non-refundable, deposit fee for each camper per session at the time of registration. Deposits are applied to the cost of each session. Payments are due in full the Wednesday before the session starts. All late registrants will be charged $15. Only participants who have paid in full by the Wednesday before the session will be allowed to attend. We appreciate your prompt payment of balances so that we can devote our full attention to our camp programs.

HEALTH HISTORY FORMS:

Every camper must have a completed Health History form on file at least one week in advance of attending summer camp. This information assists us in knowing how to best work with your child and to make us aware of any pre-existing health related or behavioral concerns. Forms can be found at: GREATERMIDLAND.ORG/CAMPS

SIGN IN/OUT:

All campers must be signed in by their camps starting time when arriving at camp. For the safety of campers, only persons listed on the authorized pickup section of their health history form may sign a camper out. Picture identification is required when signing campers out.

CAMPER BEHAVIOR/CONDUCT:

Greater Midland Summer Camps strives to ensure the well-being of all campers. Campers who display behavior that creates an unsafe environment for themselves or others may be removed from the program. Please read the camper conduct section of the parent handbook. 2

Monday-Friday, the Meet Up and Eat Up program provides all campers with the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch, at no charge. This program is also available to the public. Times: Breakfast: 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM

EXTENDED CARE All of our Summer Camps include extended care at no additional charge. The program is available daily at the following times:

Campers attending AM Camps can utilize the 7:00AM-9:00AM and 11:30AM-1:30PM sessions. Campers attending PM Camps can utilize the 11:30AM-1:30PM and the 4:00PM-6:00PM sessions. Campers attending both AM and PM Camps can utilize all three sessions. Your child will be escorted to/from their camp and supervised during extended care. All campers are eligible to utilize our extended care service free of charge! Pack a lunch for the 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM care or take part in the Meet Up & Eat Up program.

TRY OUR MINI DAY CAMPS FOR 2-3 YR OLDS

B R AN D N E W IN 201 8! COUNSELORS IN TRAINING AGES: 14-15 Our counselors in training program provides an

opportunity for teens to gain leadership experience, enhance their communication skills and learn how to positively engage campers. CIT”s will be assigned to 1-2 counselor mentors who they will shadow throughout the summer. Teens interested in becoming CIT’s must submit an application by May 1, 2018 to be considered. Teens entrance into the program will be based on their application and interview with the Summer Camp Director. During the summer of 2018 five CIT’s will be selected to volunteer with the Summer Camp Program. Cost: Teens accepted into the CIT Program will pay $50 per week to cover the cost of training and supplies. For 2-3 year old children (NO potty training required), we offer three summer half day camps. An exciting and safe environment will be provided for your camper to develop their active imaginations through hands-on activities. All of our camps are specifically designed for children 2 to 3 years old and are filled with fun, themed activities in arts and crafts, music, games, and so much more! Pick-Up and Drop-Off will take place at the Midland Community Center. There is NO before and/or after care for these camps.

Mini Sports Sampler is the perfect camp for your active little one. We will teach the basic skills of kicking, catching and throwing while playing a variety of sports. Soccer, t-ball, basketball, hockey, bowling and gymnastics are just some of the sports that will be explored.

Adventure Camps are designed to provide a full day of camp activities that are sure to keep campers engaged! Camps are divided by age with groups for ages, 5-6, 7-9, and 10-13. Campers will participate in age appropriate games, crafts, sports and theme related activities. Each week, campers will attend a field trip. Campers will also have the opportunity to swim in the Community Center pool under the supervision of counselors and lifeguards.

YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region is on a mission to empower women of all ages and has been doing so for over 126 years. Our summer camp is a five-day camp that focuses on empowering girls ages 9-12 years old. Our camp focuses on the development of a positive sense of self, connection and commitment to others, the development of the abilities and motivation to succeed in school, and participate fully in family and community life. In Junior Robotics: Simple Machines United, students will explore the basic concepts of simple machines and how we use them to achieve even our most grandiose goals! Students will use LEGO® WeDo™ construction and resource kits to produce new and exciting builds that will be used to create Kelvin’s Amusement Park.

When your favorite song comes on the radio, do you sit quietly or do you dance around and play air guitar? In Musical Adventures with Scratch and Makey Makey, we are going to explore how different sounds are created and we will create our own interpretations of common musical instruments like drums, piano, guitar and even a recorder. RESIDENCE CAMP NEYATI For the past five summers, all bunks at Camp Neyati were filled for our week-long camp. This is a testament to the incredible and unforgettable experience campers have and, because of this, continue coming back each year to add a bead to their Camp Neyati necklace. The residence camp is located on 187 wooded acres and a half mile of shoreline on Crooked Lake in Lake, Michigan. Only 55 miles northwest of Midland. Campers enjoy activities related to the movie theme, as well as experience traditional camping activities including swimming at the waterfront, archery, group games, fishing, kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, rowboats, paddleboats, arts & crafts, team building and more. This camp is licensed by the state of Michigan and we provide each child with a cabin counselor who is eighteen years or older and a camp health aide is onsite for the week as well. Camp Cookees are a traditional position at Camp Neyati. It is a counselor-in-training program and your child will get a new experience every year so they truly understand what it takes to become a Junior Counselor and Counselor. Pick up an application from the Welcome Center and return a completed application by June 1, 2018. Limited slots are available for Cookees, interviews will be conducted after applications are reviewed. Cookee registration will occur after interviews are conducted & Cookees are selected.

JUNIOR COUNSELORS Ages: 16-17

Leadership development and responsibilities come along with this volunteer position as a Junior Counselor. IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Camp registration deadline is July 1, 2018 (or when it is filled!). A waiting list will be created as needed for the age groups. CABIN MATE REQUESTS: Each camper may request one other person and they must request each other. Requests cannot be guaranteed, but we will do our best. No cabin changes will be made at camp! Health Forms can be obtained from the Community Center and MUST be brought to camp with you on the first day. Please DO NOT turn them into the Welcome Center at the Community Center. If your camper attends both Day Camp and Camp Neyati, a separate health form will be needed for each. Thanks for your understanding!
