YOUTH SWIMMING NOTE:

To swim alone, children must be 7 years old. Otherwise, a parent must be IN THE WATER and within arm’s reach of the child at all times. To be alone in the hot tub, swimmers must be 15 years old. Children must be able to swim 15 yards to use the slide alone. If they are unable, they must wear a life jacket (provided by the Community Center) and ride down with an adult, age 18 or older.

CURLING CENTER RENTALS

Curling season is late October to early March and group facility rentals are available during this time. Reservations are accepted beginning in September. Non-curling rentals are available April-August. Group rentals are available for special events. Clubs, schools, churches, businesses and other organizations can try this fun sport. PRESCHOOL AQUATICS AQUA BABIES

AGES: 6 MONTHS - 3 YEARS

Parents/guardians/caregivers (one adult in the water per child) will be taught methods to help their child with basic water adjustment skills, swimming techniques, confidence and independence in the water. Interaction, bonding, water safety and fun will also be a focus of this class.

STRUCTURED LESSONS All aquatic instructional programs are offered under the standards of the American Red Cross. Standardized skills and progress reports will be used in all classes to reflect each student’s abilities.

PARENT - CHILD CLASSES We offer several different parent-child programs to meet a variety of needs. These classes are designed to teach the adult skills and attitudes to help his/her child feel safe in the water, acquire necessary swimming skills, enjoy time together and have fun.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR FIRST CLASS: 1. No make-ups will be given for any missed classes. Swim class fees do not include admittance to any open swim times. 2. During swim classes, parents will be asked to watch from the observation rooms overlooking the pools rather than on the deck. Please talk with your child about this so they know what to expect. 3. Please bring hair ties or clips for hair that will hang in the face when wet.

AGES: 2.5 - 3 YEARS

This class is designed for families that want to continue a handson approach to their child’s swimming skills. Parents/guardians/ caregivers (one adult in the water per child) will be taught methods to help their child with basic water adjustment skills, swimming techniques, confidence and independence in the water. Class goals include water safety as well lots of fun. This is the perfect class for children with special needs or those who may need a little more personal attention to help their learning process.

YOUTH WELLNESS/FITNESS TEEN FITNESS POLICY Equipment orientation is required for youth participants. Children who are 12 may use the Wellness Center with a parent or guardian with them at all times. Children who are 13 may use the Wellness Center if their parent or guardian is in the facility. All 12- and 13-year olds can only access Life Fitness Pin Select, Free Motion and cardio equipment. For those with limited mobility, we offer four raised beds: two at 4 feet high and two at 3 feet high. The soil will be ready for planting with water and tool available. Attention Adult participants - Tai Chi, a gentle traditional Chinese aerobic exercise and moving meditation, is known to benefit the mind and body. Practicing Tai Chi helps improve balance, flexibility, muscle strength and well-being. INTRODUCING THE MIDLAND TRIPLE 5K CHALLENGE!

Our Great Lakes Bay Region Be Greater Race Prep series is designed to help you prepare for the upcoming race season.

Start your weekend off with a 5K, Riverdays and Balloon Fest! Join us at the Tridge for a full evening of activities including hot air balloons, food vendors, live music and a multitude of fun for the entire family! Run and Walk participants receive a pint glass, complimentary drink ticket and post-race refreshments. ALL EVENTS

Novice to experienced walkers and runners are invited to participate. We want to support you in reaching your individual goals, whether it’s running your first race, completing your first half-marathon or getting a PR! Each session includes a combination of classroom instruction and walking or running time. Participants learn the mental and physical aspects of training, proper stretching, strength training and yoga techniques, the right shoes to wear, how to protect your hips and knees, maintaining proper running form, the proper fuel for the run/walk and race strategy and etiquette. Speakers include physicians, physical therapists and dietitians from MidMichigan Health, as well as other therapists and fitness/ running specialists. Training shirt and end-of-prep celebration included! Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Private and semi-private swim lessons are available through the Greater Midland Community Center at various times throughout the week. This is a great opportunity to get one-on-one instruction at a time that fits your schedule. Our swim instructors are available to work with any age or skill level. PRIVATE LESSIONS: $40 per 30-minute session; SEMI-PRIVATE: $20 per 30-minute session per participant (a minimum of two participants required for lesson). Unsure if your child is ready to commit to the Dolphins? Check out our introductory swim team. Children ages 6 – 12 years old can have the swim team experience and learn what swim team is all about! Sign up for 1 or 2 practices a week. We will conclude the session with a swim meet. Practices are held in the East Pool at the Greater Midland Community Center. NOTE: Participants must be able to swim 25 yards continuously without assistance or using any floatation, and know the basics of the freestyle and back stroke.

Youth lessons, for ages 3 through 16 years old, are DIVIDED BY AGE AND ABILITY within each time slot. All levels, from first time 3-yearolds through advanced level 6, will be offered. Sign your child up for a time slot that accommodates your schedule and a qualified Greater Midland Instructor will divide him/her into the appropriate levels. This accommodates all your children in one time frame!

MIDLAND DOLPHINS SWIM TEAM Powered by the Greater Midland Community Center, the mission of the Midland Dolphins Swim Team is to promote competitive swimming in the Midland community while allowing each athlete to achieve his or her personal goals. WE do this by providing the opportunities for our swimmers to swim at both local and competitive swim meets. Prices for all groups are based on a weekly fee and weeks change from session to session. EARLY CARE Our State of Michigan Licensed program is committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment that encourages every child to grow and learn through play and exploration. Each age group participates in planned daily activities designed to promote physical, social/emotional and cognitive development. Our qualified staff is dedicated to meeting each child’s individual needs. Staff members are committed to ensuring every child is both safe and engaged. SUMMER ENRICHMENT This exciting program is offered to students Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Grade levels are divided into K & 1st 2nd& 3rd 4th & 5th Grades are divided to create tailored learning and recreation experiences for each age group. This program will emphasize positive peer relationships, leadership, responsible choices and independence. Participants in this full day program will enjoy: Our Early Education program is implementing the HighScope Curriculum. “The HighScope Curriculum emphasizes adult-child interaction, a carefully designed learning environment, and a plan-do-review process that strengthens initiative and selfreliance in children and young people.” With guidance from our qualified staff your child will be prepared to begin Kindergarten with the necessary developmental skills and confidence to succeed in the next step of his or her education. Ultimately our goal is to provide education, social and emotional support and the opportunity to explore and discover to set the course of lifelong learning.
