Tinsley’s Past & Future

1948

1998

Examination into Tinsley’s past reveals a great deal of change to the area. The loss of an identity in 2008, when the great cooling towers fell. However, we challenge Tinsley to reinvent its identity into a driven, healthy and research focused community. Pushing new technologies. 10

2008

2018

2020

2030

Looking to the future, we aim to regenerate the identity of Tinsley through a series of schemes and projects situated in and around Tinsley. Furthermore, with the connections to The University of Sheffield, we believe the community can grow, and support many other districts which are growing along the M1 corridor. 11

How might Tinsley link to the wider area?

Tinsley’s future uses of Algae

Through partnership with Floreon, it would be possible to create sustainable, environmental and designer products which could be sold to support community projects, furthermore, the selling of the products will raise awareness of the cause Tinsley are promoting for a healthier lifestyle.

All products illustrated are designed to promote; Health, Sustainability, Environmental Awareness and Community Prospects. Additionally they are designed to include revenue to be placed back into community projects. 14

Tinsley beverage range could include a variety of drinks. Picking up upon the health benefits of Tinsley Tea, the growth of the algae will also clean the air around the growth site. Furthermore, through the use of creative and distinct branding Tinsley products will be able to be sold in a variety of locations appealing to those interested in health and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

All products illustrated are designed to promote; Health, Sustainability, Environmental Awareness and Community Prospects. Additionally they are designed to include revenue to be placed back into community projects. 15

Tinsley health supplements and daily items are essential to the development of algae in the local area. The products which include, Tinsley Tonic, a daily supplement and Tinsley Toothpaste, featuring the Algae people developed by Greening Tinsley live project group. These products will raise awareness to the health benefits of algae, and its possibility as a revenue stream.

All products illustrated are designed to promote; Health, Sustainability, Environmental Awareness and Community Prospects. Additionally they are designed to include revenue to be placed back into community projects. 16

The cosmetics industry is worth an estimated, ÂŁ17 billion, thus, a health packed, sustainable product will fit into this market with ease. The Tinsley Tingle shampoo, with a fresh mint edge will rejuvenate your morning routine. Furthermore, products such as Tinsley Tan and Tinsley Toner will provide an ethical and responsible product to the market place.

All products illustrated are designed to promote; Health, Sustainability, Environmental Awareness and Community Prospects. Additionally they are designed to include revenue to be placed back into community projects. 17

Tinsley Community Kitchen & Garden

Tinsley Community Kitchen & Garden’s focus it to help support the community in a wide range of activities. The emphasis has been placed upon the closed system of planting, harvesting, and consuming. We believe the community dining table will be crucial to the redevelopment of the Tinsley Tingas site. Furthermore, the additional allotment space provided will encourage many more locals to engage with the historic school building and the events space it offers.

Tinsley Bio Plastics Production

Tinsley Bio Plastics Production working in partnership with Floreon, will be able to create a wide range of products. Floreon, is a research led, entity based in Sheffield. On the other hand Tinsley Bio Plastics is a community not for profit organisation. Hence, the partnership of the two entities will be able to create a plethora of products suitable for the expanding market of bio plastics.

Tinsley Tea Production

Tinsley Tea Production will pick up on the love of Tea! Tinsley Tea offers an alternative to the large air freight movement from tea consumption. This healthy and environmental alternative will cut carbon emissions both locally and globally from growth of algae and a reduced transport footprint. The revenues generated from Tinsley Tea, will be spent on local initiatives, development of resources and awareness of the algae research taking place in Tinsley.

Funding Generation IKEA IKEA have undertaken an initiative entitled LAGOM, this initiative is set out to promote the ideas of not limiting yourself on what your enjoy, however, using only what is required, thus, reducing waste in the process. The scheme aims to get people out into the world and experience new tactile environments. Furthermore, IKEA has previously built an bio reactor in partnership with Space 10. The aims of this were too promote the benefits of algae through the distribution of food. IKEA uses Space 10 as a research centre to develop innovations in a variety of disciplines. We suggest reaching out to IKEA for further information regarding available funding to enhance the local environment. Additionally, IKEA could be approached regarding the construction of modular growing kits. Plans for these have been drawn out in the tool-kits detailed on the document program.

E.ON

SHEFFIELD CITY COUNCIL

Through conversation with local policy makers, it has been made apparent that there is the possibility to approach E.ON in regards to funding for a green initiative. The local Blackburn Meadows Biomass plant, is on the site of the historic Tinsley Towers. E.ON are looking into green initiatives, as shown by the introduction of new battery stores at the Sheffield Site.

Through conversation with council member Ogo Osammor we have identified key markers which when put in place, we believe will drastically improve the local health and prospects. The continual focus group sessions held with the council and research parties has allowed to the promote the benefits of the scheme. Additionally, scientific calculation has taken place to prove our theories, as detailed in the tender document.
