THE GREEN SHEET I AM OUTTA HERE! … A woman whose car was towed a month ago, went to the impound lot to reclaim it. She said she had to get into the vehicle to get her wallet and pay the $700 release fee. She then ran over an employee with the car, rammed the front gate and a pickup truck twice, then drove to the back of the lot and tried unsuccessfully to smash through a rear fence.

I REALLY DO FEEL SURPRISINGLY GOOD: An 81year-old man, reading his newspaper was shocked to see his own obituary. He had checked himself into a hospital a week earlier, and his 90year-old sister had spoken to his doctors and had somehow got the impression that he had died. The matter has since been cleared up.

I WAS HOPING FOR A COOLER NICKNAME ... A man robbing two people at gunpoint was caught on surveillance tape as his shorts rode down exposing part of his derriere. The local newspapers immediately dubbed him the “Butt Crack Bandit.”

ARE YOU REALLY SURPRISED TO SEE ME? ... A man who arranged to have his wife murdered was somewhat taken aback when she showed up at her funeral. Instead of killing her, the hit men abducted her and then let her go. They then turned around and told the husband that they had done the job and took his money.

YOU DON’T SCARE ME! ... Two men got into a really heated argument and one of them pulled a sword and confronted the other one. In response to this, the other man pulled out a knife, and the battle began. As you might expect, the guy with the sword won. Knife-man went to the local hospital, and sword-man went to jail.

"When you hear how great the economy's doing right now, let's just remember when this recovery started," Obama said. but during the Obama administration, the Gross Domestic Product never exceeded 3 percent annually. Obama said the days of strong economic growth were behind us, that many manufacturing jobs were lost and not returning and that candidate Trump didn't have a "magic wand" to fix the economy. but in the second quarter of this year, economic growth exceeded 4 percent and manufacturing jobs are making a comeback. by the time Obama left office, the unemployment rate had declined from a high approaching 8 percent at the start of his administration to just under 5 percent, but was beginning to tick back upward, according to the bureau of Labor statistics. In less than two years of the Trump administration, the nation has effectively gained full em-

The Prescription For a Smart Child

HINK BACK TO HOW you spent lots of sweet time as a child and there you are, playing. The fact that our memories -- and loyalties and maybe even our personalities -- are formed while playing should hint at just how important it is. But because "play" is considered the opposite of "work," it simply hasn't gotten a lot of

respect as an important activity. Until these past few weeks. Now, suddenly, playing is kale, sunshine and AP history all juiced together. First came the American Academy of Pediatrics report that aimed a Nerf gun at the current practice of forcing kids to spend all their school time on classwork and all their after-school time on homework. That is absolutely backward, said the good doctors. What kids need is to get more free time after school and more recess while in it. As for pre-K: "Instead of focusing solely on academic skills, such as reciting the alphabet, early literacy, using flash cards, engaging with computer toys, and teaching to tests (which has been overemphasized to promote improved test results), cultivating the joy of learning through play is likely to better encourage long-term academic success," according to the report. Though it may seem as if learning to read as young as possible is the key to becoming Bill Gates, it's really more important for kids to learn how to build with blocks, play tag or pretend to be a lion. Once they find something so fun that they "work" to make it happen, they're learning focus, creativity, perseverance and initiative. Even rough-and-tumble play is important, say the doctors. Tusslers have to learn how to keep everyone just happy enough that the game continues. Grown-ups call this "empathy." Wall Street calls it "getting buy-in."

STARTING THIS WEEK: OCEAN'S 8: The Rat Pack's original Ocean's 11 crime comedy premise got several new twists from the George Clooney-starring franchise, and in this entertaining twist on the twists, Sandra Bullock leads a female-centric variation. She plays the sister of thief Danny Ocean who's also a new parolee who wastes no time getting back into the business of larceny. She and her crew target a self involved actress played by a hilariously knowing Anne Hathaway - intending to try and steal the latter's priceless necklace - all taking place during New York's annual, glamorous Met Gala. Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham Carter and Awkwafina also play members of the spectacular robbery team. Actor Elliott Gould makes a crossover appearance from the Clooney films. Also appearing in the film is funny man James Corden.

Burnett's longtime cohorts Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner also are on hand for the celebration, as are guests and admirers including Jim Carrey, Kristin Chenoweth, Martin Short, Bernadette Peters, Stephen Colbert, Jane Lynch and Harry Connick Jr. Separate segments honor Tim Conway (who was unavailable at the time of the taping), the late Harvey Korman and costume designer Bob Mackie. And yes, the clips include one of the funniest skits ever done, the Gone with the Wind parody Went With the Wind - featuring Burnett in a gown with a curtain rod through the shoulders.

play are likely to be less competent -- physically and socially -- as adults, less tolerant of risk, and more prone to anxiety disorders." OK, OK, kids need play. But how can we get it back into their lives when most kids come home from school and proceed directly to a screen or put on a uniform and go off to a sport that is fun but not really free play because an adult is in charge? Simple: Have schools stay open and offer free play as an after-school option. That's the idea behind the Let Grow Play Club, a program created by my nonprofit. (We don't make any money on it; we just encourage it in schools.) With a few adults on the premises in case of emergencies -- but who don't intervene -- kids of all ages organize their own games and solve their own spats. They get the kind of play everyone is recommending: self-directed, with no devices allowed. (For a how-to, visit https://letgrow.org and click on "schools.") They say you don't know what you've got till it's gone. Play was the golden part of childhood until it evaporated into homework, organized sports and "Fortnite." Bring it back and everyone wins.

I

May the Force (of Beer) Be With Disney Dads, Always

HAVE NEVER BEEN A HUGE FAN of Disney theme parks. Ditto for anything Star Wars-related. But, at 55, it's time to acknowledge my ignorance and enjoy, rather, revel in, these cultural phenomena that have provided so much entertainment for so many. The reason for my about face? Beer. I like beer. And, should I choose to visit Oga's Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy Edge, scheduled to open next year at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, I can purchase one. I can rest my weary, sunburned feet while I'm drinking it. Heck, maybe I'll strike up a conversation about sports with a droid or two. Or playfully flirt with an eight-armed female Besalisk. All this will be possible once the "happiest place on earth" finally rescinds a 64-year-old policy in 2019 and opts to serve liquor within Disneyland's confines. It's a controversial decision, bemoaned by Disney purists but, I'm quite certain, cheered by dads everywhere. For the record, let me state I do not have a problem with alcohol. When I say, "I'm having "a beer or two," that's what I have. While seated at Oga's, I do not plan to loudly state my political views in slurred tones, lustily eyeball another patron's wife, or question a Sith warrior's manhood. I have faced exactly one bar situation that could have resulted in fisticuffs; I wisely turned and left the establishment. Looking back, I wonder if the outcome would have ended differently if I were I armed with a light saber. Or simply warned my antagonist the Force was with me. However, I have also been the leader, sometimes reluctantly, of numerous family outings to Disneyland and its larger, costlier counterpart in Orlando. I'm not a Disney hater. Quite the contrary: I believe every family should experience a Disney theme park. Once. My wife and daughters, conversely, would build "It's a Small World" in our backyard, so enamored are they of all things Disney. Outvoted 3-1, I played the good dad through the toddler and teen years. Armed with a backpack full of sunscreen, snacks and bottled water, I dutifully squired my family to the front gates at 9 a.m. Sometimes I think we beat Cinderella to the park. By 9:15, I wanted a beer. Or two. Remember, that's my limit. Despite what could be interpreted as an act of selfishness, I know I was not alone. The faces of fellow Disney dads throughout the park conveyed the same wish. While our children bounced between attractions, blissfully unaware of the heat and humidity, the sweat stains on our shirts were multiplying at warp speed. Or light speed. Whichever is faster in Star Wars lore. When we approached a ride and our kids said, "Look, Dad, it's only a 75-minute wait," we simultaneously exclaimed, "Are you kidding me? A 75-minute wait?" When those same kids disembarked from Space Mountain and begged to get back in line "just one more time," we were searching for a bench to sit on; or even a wall to lean against. Incidentally, I've scoured the parks at Disneyland and Walt Disney World; very few leanable walls exist. Don't you see? Oga's Cantina will be OUR Magic Kingdom. So, Disney personnel, as you prepare to open this long overdue establishment, allow me to make a few suggestions that will satisfy dads everywhere while not diluting the Star Wars theme: Make the stools vibrate on command, so we can pretend we're aboard the Millennium Falcon or the Jedi starfighter as we quaff our beverages. How about some intergalactic snacks at the bar? These should be complimentary, although offering something for free at Disney is an idea that will probably be shot down faster than Garven Dreis during the Battle of Yavin. To ensure peace within the galaxy, anoint badass Star Wars characters Kylo Ren and Darth Vader as bouncers. Make sure both know how to use Ryyk blades, just in case. And, just for fun, how about activating a little Star Wars theme music every time we use the urinals?

Leo Parlay Your Passions

ARIES (March 21-April 19): To prove you can stand on your own two feet you might step on someone else's. This week you may be bored by the mundane. You could be too eager to demonstrate your independence. TAURUS (April 20-May 20): While other people are hard at work you may be preoccupied by disruptive influences in your social life. You might let flattery go to your head as the week rolls by. GEMINI (May 21-June 20): You like to be in the know so you are likely to investigate the details that are sealed with a stamp of confidentiality. Concentrate on being a busy bee as this week unfolds.

CANCER (June 21-July 22): Be prepared for anything. If you leave home without an umbrella you can't blame the sky for raining. Today's New Moon may spur a more ambitious attitude towards a partner. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Parlay your passions into improving your pay check. You might be entirely focused on a business project. A chance conversation can light a fire under your money-making abilities. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Power up your personality. You might be more able to wield influence among all the movers and shakers. The New Moon in your sign presages a refreshing new viewpoint and attitude.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): The more you see the more you want. Don't spend money on things that won't stand up to scrutiny once your feeding frenzy passes. Loved ones may be unpredictable or simply try your patience as this week unfolds. SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): In the week ahead, you may need to offer encouragement and advice to a companion who is penny wise and pound foolish. You know that those who make decisions based on fear are sure to fail. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22Dec. 21): When it rains it pours. To enjoy financial security, it might be necessary to find temporary shelter when the winds blow against you. Remain steady in the week ahead when it may be tempting to try a different direction. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22Jan. 19): Persevere despite obstacles. You might enjoy taking a walk on the wild side in the coming weeks ahead. Something daring might break up the monotony, but don't take risks with your money or your business relationships. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Dig deep. Investigating the secrets of life may rivet your attention this week. Experimenting with something new is good for the soul. But you may unleash complications by following through on an impulsive desire. PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Spend your pennies wisely. You may be up-to-date with the latest gadgets and trends but your desire to be in the swim can easily sink your bank account. Use your pleasant personality to win people over to your side.

Screaming and Whining Aren’t Strategies

HIS WEEK, DEMOCRATS PULLED OUT all the stops in their attempts to stop President Trump's pick, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, from gaining a seat on the Supreme Court. Now, Democrats have no power to stop Kavanaugh's ascension; thanks to former Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., Democrats invoked the so-called nuclear

option in order to reduce the burden for approving judicial nominees down to a simple majority. This has left Democrats and their allies with two options and two options only: screaming and whining. First, the screaming. Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Cory Booker, D-N.J., both of whom have already announced they will not support Kavanaugh's nomination, attempted to shut down the Senate Judiciary Committee Kavanaugh hearing. Harris immediately called for an adjournment so that she could supposedly review more of Kavanaugh's documents. Then Booker jumped in. By the end of the first 40 minutes of the hearing, Harris had interrupted eight times; Booker 10 times; Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., 13 times; Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, six times; Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., three times; Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., twice; Se. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. once; and Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., once. Apparently, all were acting at the behest of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., who was attempting to run out the shot clock ... or something. That was just the beginning. Women's March activist and terrorist sympathizer Linda Sarsour showed up to scream at Republicans; she was arrested. Several more feminist protesters showed up dressed as cast members of "The Handmaid's Tale"; other feminists simply screamed at the top of their lungs during the hearing, forcing their ejection. Planned Parenthood Action tweeted, "This is what the resistance looks like, and we're going to fight like hell to #StopKavanuagh." The screaming, needless to say, did not work. And so, the Democrats deployed the next prong of their attack: whining. First, a bevy of leftist commentators on Twitter deployed to inform Americans that Zina Bash, a former Kavanaugh law clerk, was secretly utilizing a white supremacy signal while sitting behind Kavanaugh. Amy Siskind of The Weekly List tweeted, "What fresh hell is this!!!??? Kavanaugh's assistant Zina Bash giving the white power sign right behind him during the hearing? This alone should be

Video of Bash earned millions of views on Twitter within a few hours. There's only one problem: Bash is half-Mexican and half-Jewish, and her paternal grandparents were Holocaust survivors. Oops. Again, there was only one problem: That never happened. White House deputy press secretary Raj Shah explained: "As Judge Kavanaugh left for his lunch break, an unidentified individual approached him. Before the Judge was able to shake his hand, security had intervened." Here's the truth: Judicial hearings are largely useless at this point. If legal action ends up being taken by your boss or management you will be in the center of the process. If you have to work with your former boss again he will have heard what you said. If you complain about your experience with your boss your management will think you would say similar things about them. You may feel you want to rant and detail your former boss's flaws when you are with trusted friends. However, around the water cooler and in public meetings think carefully about what you say. Your main focus at work should be to do work you enjoy and have harmony with the people you work with. Get the empathy and understanding you need from people in your personal life. If others at work want to engage in a lot of dramatic gossip about your former boss, find something else to do. If asked directly about your boss, only say that you realize people who have better knowledge than you decided to let him go. Sometimes power and influence come from saying and doing very little when others are running around with their pants on fire. Who would you want on your team? ENCOUNTERS McDonald’s By: angiejohnson@ronan.net

I HAVE BEEN WORKING in our local McDonalds for almost four years. I have noticed a few things but wrote them off for the most part. But I do have a few worth mentioning. One night we were closed and I had already killed the lights to the bathrooms and lobby etc. We were getting ready to leave. One of my crew had to go to the bathroom so I asked him if he needed me to turn the bathroom lights back on, he said no and then went to take care of his need. Not two minutes later he came flying from the bathroom, pale, white and shaking. I asked him if he was ok and he said no, he then asked if I was sure everyone was out of the store but us closers. I replied yeah why? He said he was standing at the urinal and he felt like someone was staring at him. He said when he turned around there was a little boy around nine years old that was sitting by the sinks, just watching him. I went in and looked and no one was there. Another time, we were all closed and locked up. One of the girls had cleaned the lobby & playland. I remember looking through the glass door into playland and seeing a mess on the floor. I said, "Hey I thought you had mopped in there." She said, "Yeah, I just got done. Why?" So we both walked over and checked it out. In the middle of the floor, by the door was a huge boot print. Nothing else just one single print. We shrugged it off and sprayed it with cleaner. We then all went outside, all of us were outside and no one had been up front except she and I. When we came back five minutes later the boot print was gone as well as the puddle of cleaner we sprayed on it. It was bone dry and as I said before none of us were in there. It was weird. One of my favorites was one night we were all getting ready to leave, and we were all up at the front counter clocking out. All the doors were locked and everybody was right there with me. In the back of the store I heard a female giggle. I looked around to make sure we were all accounted for and saw that, yes we were all right there and then I heard it again. There were three females working that night and one male, no one else was in the building. I looked around again and said, "Hey, did anyone else hear that?" Everyone of them had heard it and we all went together to double check everything. Of course nothing was found. I have since been tapped on the shoulder, had my hair tugged at and I have seen things out of the corner of my eye. I have also had alarms go off when no one but me is in the building. It's not scary at all, (Except the alarm, that freaked me out) it just doesn’t feel right. All the newbie’s laugh when we talk about it but within a matter of weeks they approach me with stories. I actually don’t mind. ©theshadowlands.net

DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Marlena’s loved ones prepared for the worst when she was removed from life support. John revealed his plan to save Marlena, only to encounter a new obstacle. As Ben tried to convince Ciara he was set up, Hope and Rafe argued when he asked if she planted the evidence against Ben. Ciara confronted Tripp about his kiss with Claire, who had initiated it. Sami and Belle were thrown by the chilly reception they received from a loved one. Abigail confided in JJ about Gabi, who later drugged Abi as the next step in her revenge scheme. Lani gave Eli her decision about whether or not they should pursue a relationship. GENERAL HOSPITAL: Kim made a deal with Drew, who then later put her on the spot. After lying to Liz, Cameron was ordered to apologize, but his bad behavior showed no sign of stopping when he called out Oscar. Carly became desperate to help Michael. Lulu overstepped her boundaries. Mike surprised Sonny, who feigned ignorance. Lucy received a surprise invitation. Ava lost her temper. Things between Nina and Anna came full circle, leading Nina to press a confused Maxie for answers. Franco had a very interesting encounter. Kiki crossed paths with Griffin. Kim kept things light with Julian, who then eventually acknowledged the part he played in past actions.

Prayer To The Blessed Virgin (Never Known to Fail)

Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the son of God. Immaculate Virgin assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my Mother, Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succor me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my Mother. Oh Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse in thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal. You who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all the things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days. After 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted.

B.K.S.

THE ORIGINALS: On a rebroadcast, Klaus sought help from Davina to learn more about the mysterious affliction affecting Hope, and received disheartening news about Hope’s future in return. On their wedding day, Freya and Keelin made a difficult decision about their future together. Elijah had to confront a past memory of Hayley. Declan’s growing curiosity about the city’s supernatural secrets forced Marcel to step in, ultimately resulting in a truce. Elijah and Klaus changed their refusal and instead, together walked Freya down the aisle. STATION 19: On a rebroadcast of the season one finale, Ben reached a new milestone as a rookie and became part of a long held tradition by receiving something from the crew. As Chief Ripley held final interviews for the role of captain, the team was called to an out of control skyscraper fire that left several lives hanging in the balance. YOUNG AND RESTLESS: Nikki tried keeping the Dark Horse launch party a secret from Victor, but Victor revealed that he knows about it and encouraged her and Victoria to attend. When Nick assured Sharon that he’s the same man as always, she conquered her concerns and agreed to go the event. Summer realized that she has feelings for Kyle. Nick offered Arturo a position at Dark Horse but Arturo hesitated to accept, mainly because of his brother Rey’s presence in Genoa City. With Abby’s encouragement, Arturo finally accepted the job, refusing to let his brother hold him back. Meanwhile, Rey looked for a way to get involved with the Newmans.

Powerful Prayer To The HOLY SPIRIT Holy Spirit, you who solves all problems, who lights all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who give me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all the instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things and to confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you even in spite of all material things. I wish to be with you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. This person must say this prayer for 3 consecutive days. After 3 days the favor requested will be granted even if it may appear difficult. This prayer must be published immediately after the favor is granted without mentioning the favor. Only your initials should appear at the bottom. C.C.
