ur first issue of Green This Season is like a look-book of new beginnings where we will introduce you to our philosophy and welcome you to Our Green Scene. We will introduce you to Christiane Milde one of our international independent designers whose beautifully simple looks are an expression of her natural beliefs. Born and raised in Weimar, Germany, she always had a fascination with the fashion world and has brought her dream of working with fair and ecological materials to life with her Berlinbased brand, Milde.

Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

W

e’re often told the hottest trend “this season” in a series of hyperglossy photographs and exclamation points. This season, and all seasons thereafter, the coolest trend is to be inspired and go green. In 2013, make more than a fashion statement, make a fashion resolution and go green this season. Perhaps you’ve already gone green. After all; it’s So This Season! In that case you’re a true trendsetter and one who believes going green is a good step for the future. We hope that our Online Magazine, Articles, Special features, and Selected Styles will inspire you going forward. Whether you color yourself green with eco-chic clothes, environmentally- friendly garments, or ethical designs, you’ll be able to sustain your sense of style with “Green This Season.”

INDEPENDENT

DESIGNERS W

e promote and support Independent Slow Fashion designers because we think “Slow Fashion” is the way forward in a world where a conscious lifestyle is becoming the rule rather then the exception.

Fashion does not have to upset our balance in nature.

Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

In fact, it should exist harmoniously and compliment our way of living like a handbag does an outfit.

What is Slow Fashion?

W

e should actually describe what Slow Fashion isn’t. Slow Fashion isn’t driven by the seasons and is most definitely not about mass production. What it is is high - end, quality fashion that you can wear throughout the seasons. It’s timeless—and oftentimes, the styles are consciously created to be worn throughout the seasons on any occasion.

MILDE BERLIN

W

e fell for Milde with the line’s eclectic influence and funky mix of materials and are sure you’ll fall for them this season. Milde transfers the green revolution into aesthetically progressive ideas and creates beautiful and simple feminine looks with high-quality organic fabrics and futuristic fabrics like Tencel.

W

hy does the designer make this connection? Christiane Milde asks, why not? “Empathy does not stop at my doorstep.” Her above-average approach to promoting ethical fashion and attention to detail is evident in the emotion she devotes to her designs.

Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

Milde is not just a new label; it’s a movement, part of the new Eco Fashion Generation. Milde’s inspirational pieces are the result of a connection between the designer’s appreciation for high quality materials and dedication to fair working conditions.

IT’S NOT JUST A NEW LABEL ; IT’S A MOVEMENT.

M

ilde’s designer has been looking for sustainable fabrics since 2003 and continues to abide by ethical sourcing. Her work reinforces the notion that quality fashion does not have to sacrifice the environment. Ahimsa silk is a non-traditional example of sustainable production.

Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

Futuristic fabrics and special details—like the

playfulness with width and tightness in this garment—make MILDE worth exploring.

WHAT IS

A

12

AHIMSA SILK?

himsa silk is

also known as Peace Silk, Eco Silk or Nonviolent Silk. In the traditional Silk process the silkworm is killed in order to extract the silk from the cocoon. Ahimsa silk is extracted after the its metamorphosis and has emerged from the cocoon. This makes it a far better, ethical and animal friendly way to gain silk.

Who is Christiane Milde? Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

Born and raised in Weimar, Germany Fascinated by the fashionworld, the construction of clothes and the texture of fabrics Christiane decides to study fashion and collected experiences in the high fashion world Already at the beginning of her studies and during the time of her fashion education Christiane had the goal to work with fair and ecological correct materials In 2011 she founded the company Milde, based in Berlin Weißensee, where she creates clothes which reflect emotions and appear in aesthetically progressive ideas and beautifully simple looks

Christiane Milde answers our questions about her brand and introduces us to empathy:

Why Organic, Ethical Fashion? Why not? As a person living in this world I really don´t know why and how someone cannot care. I just open my eyes and look at the things that daily happen on this planet. I don´t have to be standing next to a chemical poisoned cotton field, a child labor fabric, minimum waged workers and so on to feel the pain and see that a lot of things go wrong. Empathy doesn´t stop at my doorstep. That is why for me personally and in business there is no other way in acting. I pretty much do everything with the question: How would I feel and live if I was standing on that side? It is my approach to do better than what is average right now. continue

16

What are the pros and cons in designing your collections? PROS I work with the materials and designs I feel comfortable about and I love my work! CONS

Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

Sometimes ideas may not come to life as the fabrics and accessories therefor may not exist yet, or I haven´t found them yet....but still it is not really a con as I can save these ideas for later

17

How easy is it to source materials? It is way easier now. When I started looking out for sustainable fabrics in 2003 it was still very hard, not to say nearly not existing. The fabric market in this area progresses fast and gives reason to hope for some really great fabrics in the future. Considering the new areas, which are opened by Tencel, Recycling and so many more.

What would you change if you could change 1 thing in the entire FashionIndustry? I´d introduce empathy.

What can we expect within the next year? The summer is going to be fresh and sexy, playing with transparency and floating fabrics in off-whites. The winter brings back some dark colors and sexy shapes.

Where do you see Milde in 5 years? In Berlin, doing Eco Fashion.

Green This Season MAGAZINE feb 2013

“ What would you change if you could change 1 thing in the entire Fashion Industry?

CHRISTIANE MILDE

Hard question. I prefer to explore a city by just walking and would also recommend this to you when it comes to Berlin.” Look out for Teufelsberg, a man-made hill rising above the Grunewald, constructed by the Allies after World War II from the city’s rubble. Great Spot! Check out the Schillerkiez in Neukölln, good food and the former airport Tempelhof just arround the corner. Perfect Hang Out Spot!

W

e love Christiane’s organic approach to visiting a city and can picture ourselves being “charmed by everything” during her most-loved spring or summertime. We might even rent a bike through the Call A Bike sharing program to get around the city and down to the Tiergarten park or by the canal to enjoy a beer and some specialty organic selections from the Shoneberg Farmer’s Market.

If you have some tips for us all about visits to Berlin, why not share them with us on our Facebook page or on Twitter?

NEXT ISSUE In our next edition we’ll look at Green fashion through the eyes of Noorin Khamisani designer and owner of the fabulous London based label Outsider Fashion. We just love her Vision and Philosophy; Ethical Fashion should just look like fashion and

“It Just Takes One OUTSIDER To Make A Difference” our sense of style with “Green This Season.”
