You're Right Up Our Alley
What do bowling pins, gardens, and pies have in common? They were all a part of the talk at the “You’re Right Up Our Alley” bowling competition on February 3. Held at Hurricane Lanes in Destin, over 100 bowlers came together to raise money for projects in the Destin Community. “We are here with the Destin Forward Class of 2023, which is sponsored by the Destin Chamber of Commerce, to raise funds for our class community-service project,” said Cynthia Garber, Senior Manager of Leasing, Destin Commons. “This project entails overhauling the Destin Mainstreet Community Garden. Additionally, we are also going to be doing some facelift items for the American Legion Post to support our veterans. We have a great silent auction, and we are excited to have everybody here.”
Laughs and shouts could be heard across the lanes as people teased each other over strikes, missed pins and gutter balls. While everyone enjoyed the breakfast provided by Ruby Slipper, some were there for other reasons. Kayla O’Leary, Waypoint Title, Director of Business Development said, “I am here for comedic relief.” Along those lines there was another fundraiser taking place outdoors where Mayor Bobby Wagner was getting pies in the face for a donation to the event.
Destin Forward is the Chamber’s 9-month hands-on experience where members learn from area professionals while developing and producing a class project by graduation in May. The Chamber takes about 25 students and information can be obtained by contacting the Chamber directly.
