Als Referenz für das Werk Dörings wurden die mit HD monogrammierten Grafen- Porträts (Schloss Laubach) herangezogen. Seine Darstellungen zeigen eine deutliche Individualisierung der Frömmigkeit, wobei die reformatorische Sichtweise im Zentrum der Bildaussage steht.
