A face is often a reflection of the human soul. A lot of times even the human faces-masks are so puzzling that they can’t lead to any conclusion about the thoughts and possible actions of people. The absence of the face makes this enigma even more difficult.

Faceless

JACK DAVID HUBBELL Color Blind This world exists in color, or so I have been told. Pastel hues of brilliant blue. Vibrant Yellows. Passionate pinks. Verdant greens. And with a violent splash of crimson red, all as pigment come to blend and culminate in black. Expressed as illumination, should this palette compress as prismatic spectrum, that mix of colors results in radiant white. So what need have I of pigment and prism when there in my hand, a crushed kaleidoscope conveys all as grit and grey? Decisions must be made. Bringing lens to cycloptic eye, my world resolves from circular unto that of four-sided confine, and there in that rectangle, it becomes my responsibility to bring forth a certain focus. To bend the light. To fold the grey. To meld and mold and deconstruct abstraction. To judge and decide what’s black and what’s white. And here an open admission of guilt. I am biased. I admit to prejudice. Holding camera to eye, I look through an optical window and see a monochromatic vista rendered further into stark extreme. And they say nothing in this world should ever be judged as truly black and white. She in her red hat—a lesser shade of black. He in his yellow tie—a greater shade of white. Nothing more than graphic elements, there in that backlit window. And should these shades collide mid-scope while passing through the frame, their fractured shards reduce further still, and there in the middle, grey. In the land of the color blind, a one-eyed man rules red as dead and has not a soul to argue the point.

LAURA RODARI Persona

“Janitor of lunacy, paralyze my infancy, petrify the empty cradle, bring hope to them and me..” Nico.

“.... And since you know you cannot see yourself, so well as by reflection, I, your glass, will modestly discover to yourself, that of yourself which you yet know not of.” William Shakespeare

MIRKO REINBERG

Borderlands These images were shot over a period of 3 years somewhere between Germany, Belgium and Holland. This region looks back on centuries, probably millenia, of conquest, war, and persecution. But what has remained of history? Is it engraved in the landscape? Can a tree be Viking, Roman, Franconian, German, Dutch, Belgian, or French?

PIERRE WAYSER I can’t afford to die

Until brown clay fills up my orbits. Black and oily edges. Violent odors, noises of brawls, barkings of dog. And the gleam of the eyes, at the edge of the eyelids. A man passes in front of me without seeing me, without anything to say. The oiled machete beats its side. One, two, three, and the house burns!
