La storia di Cecchi inizia nel 1893 in Chianti con Luigi Cecchi che, grazie alle sue doti di assaggiatore di vini, ha dato origine alla dinastia. Oggi, sotto la guida di Andrea e Cesare che rappresentano la quarta generazione, l’azienda è conosciuta e apprezzata in tutto il mondo per la produzione di vini toscani, ma non solo. Attualmente le proprietà Cecchi comprendono tre tenute in Toscana dislocate tra le zone del Chianti Classico Villa Cerna, di San Gimignano - Castello Montaùto, della Maremma -Val delle Rose ed una in Umbria - Tenuta Alzatura, nella zona di Montefalco.

In 1893 Luigi Cecchi, inspired by the charm of wine, decided to set up his own business as a “palatist” - a taster and mediator - laying the foundations for what is now one of Tuscany’s most internationally famous winemaking estates. Today, as well as the Cecchi Wineries, the Cecchi properties include three estates in Tuscany located between the areas of Chianti Classico - Villa Cerna, San Gimignano- Castello Montaùto and the Maremma - Val delle Rose and one in Umbria Tenuta Alzatura, in the Montefalco area.

A gourmet restaurant housed in a historic building, the former Judges’ and Notaries’ Guild building, decorated with fourteenth-century frescoes among which is the first documented portrait of Dante Alighieri! Chef Giovanna Iorio combines her southern-Italian origins and Tuscan childhood to create unique dishes, refined and yet traditional, very much enjoyed by personalities such as writer Umberto Eco and philosopher Massimo Cacciari.

The must-tries are pumpkin and chestnut cream (and all the other soups, the chef’s greatest passion), stewed salt cod with tomatoes and sweet peppers and lamb stew with sheep’s milk cheese fondue and fried artichokes.

Alta cucina in un antico palazzo fiorentino, quello dell’Arte dei Giudici e Notai, con vista su un meraviglioso ciclo di affreschi del Trecento da cui spicca il più antico ritratto documentato di Dante Alighieri! Qui la chef Giovanna Iorio unisce le sue radici lucane e la sua infanzia in Toscana per creare piatti unici, raffinati e tipici al tempo stesso apprezzati da personaggi come lo scrittore Umberto Eco e il filosofo Massimo Cacciari. Tra i raccomandati: la passata di zucca mantovana e castagne del Casentino (e tutte le altre zuppe, grande passione della chef), il baccalà in umido con pomodori e peperoni e lo stufato di agnello con fonduta di pecorino e carciofi fritti.

At a stone’s throw from Ponte Vecchio and the atmosphere is as magic as the cuisine by Beatrice Segoni, the multiawarded chef of this gourmet restaurant with breathtaking view over the Arno river and the warmth of an elegant home. Traditional Florentine and Italian cooking with a contemporary twist, including carefully selected and skillfully prepared fish-based dishes. All ingredients are accurately chosen by Beatrice herself. The must-try is the fish soup, as well as the desserts. Many different breads, freshly baked on a daily basis, just like the pasta. Excellent wine list, up to the high standard one expects from such a restaurant.

Siamo a una spanna da Ponte Vecchio e l’atmosfera è incantata come la cucina di Beatrice Segoni, chef amata e premiata di questo esclusivo ristorante con splendida vista sull’Arno e dal calore di una signorile casa privata. Cucina gourmet di tradizione fiorentina e italiana, alleggerita in chiave contemporanea che onora anche il pesce con grande sapienza e selezione. Amore assoluto per le materie prime scelte personalmente da Beatrice.

Imperdibile il brodetto di pesce, da non tralasciare i dessert. I tanti tipi di pane, come la pasta, sono fatti qui ogni giorno.

In Florence they are called buche: basement workshops converted into wine cellars and then restaurants serving simple, traditional Florentine dishes. This is one of the smallest to be found in Florence - a dozen of tables crammed with Americans and Florentines and not for the world would they give up their seat - established in 1945.

If you order ribollita, Sangiovannese-style stew and fried chicken, rabbit and artichokes you will never regret it, but the signature dishes are artichoke frittata (in winter and springtime) and chine of pork with potatoes. Top it off with oven- cooked candied pears.

A Firenze si chiamano ‘buche’, sono degli ex-laboratori seminterrati trasformati in cantinette, poi adibite a ristoranti, dove si serve una cucina tipica non troppo elaborata. Questa è una delle più piccole - una dozzina di tavoli che ogni sera si riempiono di americani e fiorentini che non vi rinuncerebbero per nessun motivo al mondo -, aperta dal 1945. Se ordinate la ribollita, lo stufato alla Sangiovannese e il fritto di pollo, coniglio e carciofi non ve ne pentirete, ma i veri cult sono il tortino di carciofi (in inverno e primavera) e l’arista di maiale con le patate. Chiudete con le pere cotte candite e siete a posto.

One of the city’s oldest and best-known buche. The kitchen is on show, a typical Tuscan and country atmosphere, posters hanging from the walls and describing the restaurant’s history, the old days when cabmen stopped for a glass of wine or a portion of tripe served on newsprint. The heart and soul of the restaurant is owner Luciano Ghinassi, who carries on Tuscany’s culinary tradition with the restaurant being fully booked nearly every evening. The menu features a wide choice of dishes. Among the must-tries are barbecued steak, pasta and homemade desserts.

Cucina a vista, atmosfera rustica rappresentativa della massima espressione toscana, alle pareti poster che richiamano la storia del locale, quando i fiaccherai si fermavano qui per bere un bicchiere di vino e mangiare una scodella di trippa serviti su un foglio di giornale. Oggi il patron e anima del ristorante, Luciano Ghinassi, mantiene viva la tradizione registrando il pieno di prenotazioni tutte le sere. This buca (the name by which any typical Florentine restaurant housed in a basement is known) is based in the sixteenth-century Palazzo Niccolini and counts celebrities such as Anthony Hopkins, Billy Joel, Justin Bieber, Kirsten Dunst, Andrea Bocelli and Fiorello among its patrons, and all those who are looking for authentic Florentine cooking.

This old-fashioned restaurant makes use of simple and genuine ingredients to prepare traditional dishes like artichoke flan, ribollita, pappardelle with wild boar meat sauce and barbecued steak. Distinguishing marks: a private room with rear exit.

Run by the same family since 1945, this is one of Florence’s most typical restaurants, frequented by both locals and tourists and serving dishes deeply rooted in the city’s as well as in the family’s history. In addition to barbecued Florentinestyle T-bone steak and mixed Tuscan fry, the menu includes homemade tortellini- the recipe has been handed down from the Bolognese Bruno to his daughter Chiara Masiero (the current owner) - and exotic curry prawns with rice and homemade mango chutney sauce, served in Florence since the Fifties. The olive oil and house wine are organically produced

by Il Peraccio farm run by Chiara’s brother, Francesco. A wide choice of vegetarian and gluten-free dishes.

Dal 1945 nelle mani della stessa famiglia, ecco è una delle trattorie più tipiche di Firenze, frequentata da un’affezionata clientela fiorentina e internazionale, dove ogni piatto ha le radici nella storia della cucina locale ma anche della città e della famiglia stessa. Per questo, accanto alla bistecca alla fiorentina cotta alla griglia su carbone di legna e ai grandi fritti, ecco spuntare i tortellini fatti a mano, retaggio del bolognese Bruno, padre di Chiara Masiero (l’attuale proprietaria ndr) o l’esotico piatto di gamberi al curry con riso e mango chutney fatto in casa, servito a Firenze dagli anni ‘50. Cantinetta Antinori has been one of Florence’s best known wine bars since 1965. It is located in Piazza Antinori (which intersects with Via de’ Tornabuoni) on the ground floor of the Antinori family’s age-old building. A restaurant with an elegant and intimate atmosphere, frequented by a demanding and sophisticated clientele, where one can taste the entire Antinori wine production. The famous Florentine family has been producing wine since 1385 and, of course, owns the Cantinetta ( it is run by Albiera, Marchese Piero Antinori’s oldest daughter). Most of the ingredients with which the traditional Tuscan dishes are prepared come from the Antinori estates in Tuscany and Umbria. Among the must-tries are the Cantinetta crostini, pappa al pomodoro and raw artichoke salad with shrimps.

Dal 1965 la Cantinetta Antinori è uno dei wine bar più rinomati di Firenze. Si trova in piazza Antinori (che intercetta via de’ Tornabuoni), al piano terra del prestigioso e omonimo palazzo.

Un ambiente elegante e discreto, frequentato da una clientela esigente e raffinata, dove è possibile degustare tutta la gamma dei vini Antinori, storica famiglia fiorentina che produce vino dal 1385, naturalmente proprietaria della Cantinetta (se ne occupa in prima persona Albiera, primogenita del marchese Piero), accompagnati da una selezione di specialità della cucina toscana, molte delle quali preparate con ingredienti provenienti dalle diverse tenute Antinori in Toscana e Umbria. Tra i cult: i crostini della Cantinetta, la pappa al pomodoro, il segato di carciofi crudi con i gamberi.

With a wonderful view of the Cestello square and outdoor summertime seating in in the shade of the church, this excellent fish-based restaurant is the domain of Amelia and Giacomo. Distinguishing marks: customers pick the freshlycaught fish they want for dinner off the counter and have it transformed by chefs Gabriele and Daniele into gourmet dishes. Among the house specialties are the “grand plateau” of raw fish, oysters and Iranian Beluga caviar. And you can even buy the fish, take it home and prepare it yourself.

Con una splendida sulla piazza del Cestello, dove d’estate si estende un fresco dehor all’ombra della omonima Chiesa, ecco un eccellente ristorante di pesce a Firenze, il regno di Amelia e Giacomo. Segni particolari: qui è il cliente che decide il menù, scegliendo il pesce fresco di giornata davanti alla Pescheria a vista, che Gabriele e Daniele, gli Chef, provvedono poi a trasformare in pietanza raffinata. Fish is caught in our Tuscan sea, leafy greens come from farmers’ vegetable gardens near Florence, cheese from local producers, oregano from Francesca of Pantelleria - the restaurant’s oldest vendor, lemons from Sicily, truffles from San Miniato, tangerines from Calabria, pasta from Apulia and so on… Cibreo has been a sophisticated melting pot of aromas and flavours since 1979, with a sole conductor on the podium, Chef Fabio Picchi. The must-tries are yellow pepper soup, salt cod à la Cassi, stuffed chicken neck and Florentine-style pot roast.

Il pesce è quello del nostro mare Toscano, i radicchi vengono dagli orti dei contadini della provincia di Firenze, i formaggi dai pastori di zona, l’origano è solo quello della Francesca di Pantelleria, il fornitore più antico; e poi limoni siciliani, tartufi di San Miniato, clementini calabresi, pasta pugliese... Dal 1979 Cibreo è un raffinato melting pot di sapori e profumi, con un unico direttore di orchestra, lo chef Fabio Picchi. Da assaggiare il passato di peperoni gialli, il baccalà alla Cassi, il collo ripieno e lo stracotto alla fiorentina.

The history of Il Latini restaurant is closely associated with that of the city and of Maria, Narciso’s wife, who cooked the dishes her husband served to customers in the wine cellars of Palazzo Rucellai. The Flood did not spare the wine shop that, however, went on providing Florentines with warm dishes in the streets covered with mud. Today as yesterday, Il Latini offers ribollita and pappa al pomodoro, chine of pork and wild boar stew. Here, one can take in all the atmosphere and capture a bit of the magic of wonderful Tuscany.

La storia del ristorante Il Latini si intreccia con la storia della città, con la storia di Maria, moglie di Narciso, che cucinava i cibi che suo marito trasportava ai tavoli apparecchiati disposti nelle cantine di Palazzo Rucellai. After 16 years of work as photolithographer, Luca Cai decided to take another path in life and became a tripe-seller: at first in Piazza del Galluzzo, then at the Porcellino market and, at last, in 2004, by opening the first tripe restaurant, which met with immediate success. Lampredotto meatballs, ravioli filled with lampredotto and potatoes, linguine with black cabbage pesto and Florentine-style tripe are only a few of the dishes on the menu, accompanied by an extensive wine list featuring 180 labels. In spring and summertime, book one of the four outdoor tables overlooking one of the city’s loveliest squares.

Dopo 16 anni di lavoro in una fotolita fiorentina, Luca Cai cambia direzione e decide di fare il trippaio: prima in piazza del Galluzzo, poi al mercato del Porcellino e, nel 2004, apre la prima tripperia ‘al chiuso’ che si rivela un successo. Le polpettine di lampredotto, i ravioli ripieni di lampredotto e patata, le linguine al pesto di cavolo nero e la trippa alla Fiorentina sono solo alcune delle proposte, accompagnate da una carta dei vini ben fornita, che vanta 180 etichette. Located downtown Florence, Kome is the temple of Japanese cooking. It spreads over three floors: the entrance leads into the Kaiten Sushi, where sushi and other dishes are placed on a rotating conveyor belt that moves past the counter. On the first floor, Kome serves Yakiniku cuisine, that is, grilled meat and fish dishes. Customers can choose either fish or meat from the daily menu and check the cooking process personally. At lunchtime it is informal, with its tapas that allow you to enjoy gourmet dishes in small portions and at reasonable prices. In the evening, it is an upscale restaurant, with two tasting menus and one à la carte. The signature dishes are the egg and Tuscan grandma rituals, roast etouffee pigeon with apple and chicory sprouts and venison steak. The genius here is Chef Marco Stabile: shy and yet so friendly, he catches you in his spell dish after dish after dish, but he is never satisfied and always hungry to push limits a little further.

A pranzo è democratico con la proposta vincente delle tapas che permettono di assaporare piatti gourmet in piccole porzioni a piccoli prezzi. A cena è alta cucina, con due menu degustazione e la scelta à la carte, dove fanno da padrone l’uovo e i riti della nonna, il piccione etouffè arrostito con mela e puntarelle e la bistecca di cervo. Il Teatro del Sale is much more than a restaurant. Established as cultural association with 160.000 members throughout the world, it stages over 230 shows per year, under the artistic direction of Maria Cassi, a handsome and poetic actress with great sense of humour, who is often compared to Jacques Tati and Jerry Lewis. The Club opens in the morning for breakfast, then serves lunch and, in the evening, after a huge buffet dinner, at 9 pm, it turns into a theatre and the curtain rises! The kitchen is run by Cibreo restaurant owner Fabio Picchi. Signature dishes are: meatballs with melted butter, capers and anchovies, and clam soup.

Where is the best steak restaurant in Florence? Before delving into the subject of Florentine T-bone steaks, we would like to point out that Via del Porcellana is Florence’s most literary address. Piero Annigoni’s table was placed right in front of the kitchen and he threw nuts to the window to get the cook’s attention. In addition to the classic Florentine-style steak, the must tries are artichoke pie and butter chicken breast. All dishes are cooked on a wood-fired stove.

Dove si mangia la bistecca buona a Firenze? Prima ancora di entrare nel merito delle fiorentine è bene ricordare che questo di via del Porcellana è l’indirizzo più letterario della città. Qui Piero Annigoni aveva il suo tavolo di traverso alla cucina e tirava le noci sul vetro davanti al cuoco quando guardava in sala. Oltre alla classica bistecca alla fiorentina, tra i piatti cult c’è il tortino di carciofi e il petto di pollo al burro. Tutto cotto su cucina senza fornelli, con brace di legna.

This family-run restaurant serves traditional Italian and tasty cuisine, both meat and fish-based dishes, as well as dishes of the day including game, Porcini mushrooms and truffles. The house specialty is homemade pasta in dozens of different shapes and styles, from paccheri carbonara to sepia tagliatelle, from spinach and ricotta cheese gnudi with Parmesan cheese zabaglione to maltagliati with old-style meat sauce and cheese and pepper bucatini. On Fridays, the dish of the day is salt cod, while mixed Tuscan fry is always on the menu. Veranda, car park, smoking room.

A sud di Firenze, ecco una trattoria a conduzione familiare, dalla cucina schietta, saporita e tradizionale, dove si mangia sia carne che pesce. Tutti i giorni vengono proposti piatti di stagione fuori menù tra cui cacciagione, piatti a base di funghi porcini o di tartufo. La specialità è la pasta fatta in casa declinata in mille modi, dalla carbonara di paccheri con tagliatelle di seppia, agli gnudi di ricotta e spinaci con zabaione di parmigiano, immancabili i maltagliati con ragù vecchia maniera e i semplici, ma sublimi, bucatini cacio e pepe. Trattoria Gargani was started by artist and chef Giuliano Gargani, who was the restaurant’s heart and soul for about thirty years. A gathering place for artists and intellectuals, the restaurant features decorated walls and an informal and fun atmosphere. The kitchen is now run by Chef Elio Cotza, who worked side by side with Giuliano from the very beginning and has now embarked on this thrilling adventure with Andrea Gargani. Among the must-tries are spaghetti with raw artichokes, escalope with avocado and the legendary cheesecake.

La trattoria Gargani è nata con l’artista e Chef Giuliano Gargani, che è stato l’anima del locale per una trentina d’anni. Luogo di ritrovo di artisti e intellettuali, la trattoria si caratterizza per le sue pareti decorate e per un’atmosfera informale e divertente. Oggi il ristorante si avvale dell’esperienza dello Chef Elio Cotza, che sin dai primissimi tempi ha affiancato Giuliano, e che insieme ad Andrea Gargani porta avanti questa entusiasmante avventura. Established in 1953 and family-run for about four generations, this trattoria is housed in a sixteenth-century building, the current Palazzo Alessandri, filled with the scent of fresh Tuscan food (the owners go grocery shopping at the Central Market every single morning). You cannot leave without having a taste of the delicious ribollita soup, Florentine-style T-bone steak, peposo and lampredotto, and sharing the table with other guests with whom you can exchange your thoughts and views!

Aperta dal 1953, ancora oggi a gestione familiare da circa quattro generazioni, la trattoria è incorniciata in un edificio cinquecentesco, l’attuale Palazzo Alessandri, all’interno del quale si respira forte l’odore dei prodotti toscani, rigorosamente freschi (si fa la spesa al Mercato Centrale tutte le mattine). Come da tradizione, qui non si può non assaggiare l’ottima ribollita, la bistecca alla fiorentina, il peposo o il lampredotto, tutto da gustare in tavoli comuni, così da condividere con gli altri commensali impressioni e pensieri sulla giornata.

Located in the San Frediano neighbourhood, in the Oltrarno area, a lovely restaurant with plain and simple interiors.

Rolando Brogi, his wife Giovanna and son Francesco (both in the kitchen) started this fun restaurant whose informal atmosphere truly reflects its name. Friendliness and quick service are the rule. Typical Tuscan dishes with a sophisticated twist such as artichoke and Parmesan cheese appetizer, tortellacci with gorgonzola cheese and rocket, T-bone steak, Fornacina-style peposo, Florentine pot roast.

Desserts are all homemade and the helpings are generous: try the chocolate mousse and cheesecake.

Nel quartiere di San Frediano, nell’Oltrarno, un simpatico locale, arredato in maniera semplice ed essenziale. Rolando Brogi, sua moglie Giovanna e il loro figlio Francesco (entrambi in cucina), hanno creato questo divertente ristorante che nella sua confusione informale riflette il proprio nome. L’ospitalità, la celerità del servizio e la gentilezza sono di casa. Piatti tipici della tradizione toscana, rivisitati in maniera raffinata, tra cui segnaliamo l’antipasto di carciofi e parmigiano, i tortellacci con gorgonzola e rucola, la bistecca, il peposo alla fornacina, lo stracotto alla fiorentina, e l’ossobuco. I dolci sono tutti di fatti in casa e dalle porzioni generose: provate la mousse al cioccolato e il cheese cake.
