Date: 8th -10th October 2018 | Location: Grand Palm Hotel • Gaborone, Botswana Dear Colleagues, It is with great pleasure that on behalf of GRV Global and the AFRICAN UNION COMMISSION (“AUC”) I introduce to you the program for the above mentioned prestigious event, while officially inviting you to attend and join us as the force in Africa, developing and shaping this great continent’s natural resources industrial profile. Why you may ask, is this event and our interaction and discussion networking important, and why do I believe as its Chairman we need to support this? Well, if we analyse the global economy now, we see the following; the past business year was again challenging for the mining industry, but a year in which we have begun to see a number of new and significant Macro trends already penetrating our local and general operating environment in the African region. Africa is still the fastest growing continent on a FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) basis with >7% year on year growth rate. Further, as was predicted by the ‘experts’, within the last year, the mining & natural resources investment market was strongly positive with precious metals (Gold & Silver) and related base metals stocks rising fast on the back of significant new capital inflows and massively increased exploration and development activity, which has underwritten this further. The Junior Mining market where much of the development continues to reside has rebounded between 100% to 300% on individual stocks with earliest gains being focussed on Gold and Pure Silver plays, but in the last year base & energy metals have shone even brighter. Still though, because most stocks were down to 97% from historical highs in 2010, there remains a significant upside to reaching such highs again, though the market still remains on average 50% to 60% down. For base metals appear to be in the second phase of a bull market and based on historic bull market trends, there is much more expected to come, in particular in energy related metals, for Electric propulsion and related infrastructures substitution of ICE (Internal Combustion Engines), for all types of vehicles. In particular this means Copper, Cobalt, Nickel, Vanadium & Manganese as well as Lithium. But in Lithium’s case the peak is much closer than for other metals due to the early boom of exploration and project development based on investors misguided belief that “Lithium’ is everything in the world of energy storage. On the positive side, the drive for development of ‘hard rock’ Lithium sources has gained momentum more recently and this brings Africa more into focus, in particular countries like Zimbabwe.
2 welcome/introduction
The ‘experts’ conversation remains somewhat focussed on ‘real’ failing confidence in the US$ Dollar and other major currencies, which in some circles speak of the real potential collapse of the FIAT Currency system and its replacement by some other more secure exchange unit. The failed central banking experiment, flirting with negative real interest rates, led by the US Federal Reserve, has reversed with all trying to hike rates fast to eradicate this, whilst still not restricting the money flow, thus causing another massive and growing bubble in the stock markets. This underscores the uncertainty as no one can predict what will be the outcome, but the ‘experts’ of the last 5 or 6 decades are still saying this is a strategy doomed to bring disaster, as it flies in the face of all economic theory and convention. And as societal and political structures continue to breakdown worldwide, survival instincts will continue to heighten inspiring self-organizing communities and a decreasing confidence in central banking and other key financial and currency based infrastructures. Precious metals as a medium of exchange has thousands of years of tried-and-true history, so people run to these safe havens. But this in itself has become problematic as there is not enough physical Gold and Silver out there. Silver in particular is facing a huge deficit, and this is fuelling the demand for other forms of safety, in physical commodities. The resulting clear synopsis is that Africa will benefit more as we move through the latter quartile of this decade and into the next one. Investment in ‘stuff’ that is physical and tradeable remains the strongest trend, this includes infrastructure commodities like Copper, Zinc, Iron Ore and energy commodities, like Thermal Coal and/or the company stocks that hold such assets in strategically important areas. This therefore continues to offer investors in Africa strong fundamentals for their business and in progress project developments. All of the above facts and trends tells you all you need to know. So join the conversation and get to understand the latest development in Mining in Africa by joining me at the Summit in Gaborone, Botswana. I look forward to seeing you there. On behalf of the organisers, with best regards, I remain,
