At the virtual AMS20, we were able to replicate the feel of a live event through many of our key event features, including the Auditorium, Exhibition Hall, Networking Lounge and of course, 1-2-1 matchmaking meetings. Across the two days and with over 70 interactive booths, there was lots to see and do, as Key industry showcased the hottest trends, technologies and products, using the platform to reveal cutting-edge products and services. Each booth displayed documents, videos and featured a chat session for anyone wishing to ask questions or hold a video call.
15-16 SEPTEMBER 2020
AMS20 WE WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE FEEL OF A LIVE EVENT THROUGH MANY OF OUR KEY EVENT FEATURES, INCLUDING THE AUDITORIUM, EXHIBITION HALL, NETWORKING LOUNGE AND OF COURSE, 1-2-1 MATCHMAKING MEETINGS
A big thank you to our Conference Chair, Alan M. Clegg Pr.Eng., Independent Mining & Energy Consultant, and Executive Chairman of Shumba Energy, for his unwavering support throughout the planning of AMS20, as well to all our panellists and presenters for being so accommodating despite their different time zones and very busy schedules we are truly grateful for the time and effort you took sharing your knowledge and expertise with the audience - participants can access all the AMS20 content via our YouTube Channel.
AMS20 would not be complete without our revered 1-2-1 Matchmaking Meetings which aim to further collaborations and facilitate new partnerships on the continent between public and private sector leaders. Across the two days, the GRV Global team facilitated over 700 virtual meetings through video calls. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic in creating these new connections, the GRV Global team were glad to make these vital introductions for future deal making.
Additionally, across the 15th and 16th September, our online audience participated in Open Forum Chats led by Industry Leaders in the Networking Lounge. Discussions on ‘How the World will adapt Post COVID 19’ and ‘Energy Generation’ garnered the attention of all online and provided an engaging interlude to the 1-2-1 meetings that took place throughout the entire event.
ANDREW DOWELL CEO | GRV Global
Lastly and by no means least, my sincere thanks to the event’s Sponsors without which, meetings of this kind would not be possible. Although we were not able to meet in person, it was wonderful to see both old and new colleagues online, and I truly hope to have the pleasure of meeting again in 2021! With the best wishes of me and my team, stay safe and well.

AFRICA MINING SUMMIT • VIRTUAL EVENT
2
Welcome to the Post-Event Guide. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all those who participated in our first virtual Africa Mining Summit (AMS20) and contributed to its successes (the 6th in the AMS series). We had the pleasure of welcoming over 400 participants to our online platform for what was a productive and engaging two days for all involved. During this challenging period, we greatly appreciate your continued support and dedication to addressing the future direction of the African mining industry.
@GRVMININGSUMMIT | #AMS20
A NOTE OF THANKS...
It with great pleasure as Conference Chair that I can report back to you, in summary, regarding the outcomes and success of the above mentioned prestigious and first virtual event. The AMS20 was foundational this year given it was undertaken with even more focus on what we need to accomplish as an industry in support of society at large, while under restrictions enforced by the Covid19 pandemic. In particular, the focus on Energy delivery and environmental sustainability while maintaining world class social contribution and governance.
@GRVMININGSUMMIT | #AMS20
THANKS FROM THE CHAIR
In my opening address I focussed on the fact that our future was very much tied to the demands of the socio-political landscape embedded as pressure elements within a post Covid19 recovery. The focus would be on GDP recovery, demand for green electrical energy and a likely reset of the financial system globally the timing for which being driven by the exhaustion of MMT being implemented by the Global Political machine and Central Banks. It was notable that throughout the panel sessions Chaired by senior industry leaders’ discussions and debates were mostly aligned in with the premise and predictions that I expressed. The discussions were informative and also controversial at times with topical issues addressed and question/debate from delegate audience participation strongly interactive. Further discussion and debate in the post panel period within the Chat rooms was epic and well attended with high quality debate. In conclusion, the mining & minerals development sector in Africa will continue to be one of the most significant beneficiaries from key commodity demand as deficits loom as we move in to 2021 and beyond. The clear growth trend in Investment in physical metals, in particular precious metals Gold & Silver as a hedge against failing FIAT currencies. Also, tradeable infrastructure and energy related commodities which post the pandemic shutdowns are already in supply/demand deficit, and the Battery metals (Cobalt, Vanadium, Lithium & Manganese) and the Junior Mining Equities that hold such assets or the technologies to enhance them are in demand. This therefore continues to offer all stakeholders and investors on the African continent strong fundamentals in the business and in the progressive project developments.
5
So, based on all of the above I have no hesitation in declaring the event an unqualified success and that you will join me once again in applauding the AUCTI for the support for this event and GRV Global for organising it. With best regards, I remain, Yours Faithfully WWW.GRVGLOBAL.COM

ANGLO AMERICAN COAL
In South Africa, a substantial proportion of our production was, until recently, thermal coal used for the generation of domestic electricity. Today the focus is firmly set upon a select group of high performing Mpumalanga-based assets for the supply of around 19 million tonnes of thermal coal a year to export markets across several continents. This shift became effective on 1 March 2018, with the sale of our Eskom-tied mines – Kriel, New Denmark and New Vaal – to Seriti. Seriti is a broad-based, majority black-owned and controlled mining company that will ensure the continued supply of coal to the national utility. The transaction included our New Largo resource, and serves to reinforce Anglo American’s long-standing commitment to economic empowerment and sustainable transformation of the South African mining landscape. www.southafrica.angloamerican.com/our-operations/coal
